We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
No steering wheel. High-tech truck driving. I prefer these videos to real flying, but both are ok with me. "I've read some recent studies that show that coffee just keeps me alive."
Pilots are cool-headed, like surgeons. It's not for everybody.
I agree, having been a surgeon for 40 years, that surgeons should have cool heads. Not all do. The other profession where it is critical is anesthesia. Anesthesia is months of boredom with seconds or, rarely minutes, of terror.
We used to choose who would do anesthesia for the type of case. When my 98 year old mother had her cataracts done, I chose a friend who was comforting and empathetic. She loved him. I had to do a few big trauma cases with him and it took a few years off my life.
