Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

How many countries defend their borders with machine guns?
OK, which ones? At the risk of being too controversial I think if we had chosen to defend our borders with machine guns some 50 years ago that literally tens of thousands of lives would have been saved. Not just the lives of the many immigrants who died in the journey or were killed by the cartels but also many Americans who were killed by illegal immigrants. It would have been an act of kindness to protect our borders with machine guns.
Better yet, how many countries throw their borders open with unfettered admission to all and no entrance requirement, a blank sheet for identity, education, criminal history, and no minimum standards for health, wealth, ability, or meritorious behaviors? How many countries do that with the implicit sanction of their political leadership, as elected by the citizens whom they defy?
Worth pondering the next time you stand in line to be electronically scanned and have your privates squeezed to get onto an airplane, or while emptying your pockets for admission to a hockey game, or providing proof of who you are to a clerk so that you can have access to YOUR money or YOUR doctor. All those nice little humiliations we endure to be good citizens, while the illegally-present get a golden country pass, with benefits, from the people we placed in trusted positions of power. Boeing 737 Not accurate and seems to have been worded by a hungry trial lawyer. The 737, like everything else made today, uses digital signals computers and sensors to allow it to fly with minimal pilot input. Under the right/wrong conditions this system can try to adjust for a potential lethal situation that may or may not exist depending on if the sensors are working correctly or are being misinterpreted. Any experienced pilot of these big planes can easily determine the problem and either correct it or shut off that particular function. Simple as that. The pilots in both of the plans that crashed did not have sufficient experience either with these planes or any planes.
This looks to me like a setup to diminish Boeings market AND to make a few lawyers fabulously rich. Exactly. This is pure pilot error. The switch to turn off the MCAS system is right on the center console of the 737 cockpit. These pilots literally sat back and let the MCAS system fly the plane into the ground. Shocking incompetence.
The Chicagoboyz blog had a piece a couple of days ago on "The 737 Max and the Death of MIL-STD-499A system engineering management" that some may wish to read.
Smollett
It's easy to dismiss the Smollett stunt as crude and stupid, from inception to the cloddish and clumsy Chicago style resolution, until you consider the potential aftermath. Kudos to the CPD. If these clowns had succeeded in getting their performance on tape, there would have been no unwinding it. All actual exculpatory evidence would have been shouted and shut down by the media, in a tsunami of outrage. We really dodged a bullet; the squirrel could have ascended a national platform, maybe even a political career. How could the intelligence community fail so badly? When prog/socialist politicians appoint prog/socialist politicians to positions that require performance rather than ordained outcome it is rather obvious that the institution will degenerate into chaos. Any number of appointees to the FBI and CIA over the years were just what was needed to destroy their effectiveness and turn them into elite bullyboys. Take a good look at all of our institutions and you will find them flopping around in the political gutter.
"Sheesh, that's a government in fear of its people. Why?"
Is this a trick question? From another Texan, who recently escaped from CA after 40 years there (1977-2017), quote:
"China Population (LIVE) The current population of China is 1,418,763,639 as of Friday, March 29, 2019, based on the latest United Nations estimates. China population is equivalent to 18.41% of the total world population. China ranks number 1 in the list of countries (and dependencies) by population." Pretty hard for any government to keep track of 1,418,763,639 people. :) (In another words, I agree with you.) But there'd be no need to be afraid even of one billion citizens if the government weren't murderous and tyrannical.
US government has not been murderous and tyrannical, but we have had presidents assassinated. Throw in some insanity, and a billion people is a lot, either for good or evil.
SKIN TIGHT LEGGINGS
Let me see if I can get this right: If you are a member of the homosexual community it is because of a biological urge stimulated by the appearance of someone of your same sex. If,however you are a young man (either white or black) you MUST NOT BE STIMULATED by anything external. Most particularly any appearance that a female presents. Therefore, we can acknowledge biological stimulation in one political/sexuality argument/conflict, But, we MUST NOT acknowledge biological stimulation in another political/sexuality argument/conflict, i.e. MEN must never respond to any woman any where as a result of her appearance or actions. Where is the underlying SCIENCE in all of this? That poor mom of 4 boys was speaking truth to the powerfully insane! I understand and agree with the legal position that the feminists take with regard to how women dress. That legal stance is the best protection for all women and it does defend a right that I support. What bothers me is that we are not permitted to speak the truth about the other side of the conflict. Men do have strong biological programming triggered by visuals; it's like any other reality we refuse to acknowledge--pretending it is not there does not help us to deal with the situation effectively. Clothing and body adornment is at least as old as homo sapiens. Clothing is used to send social signals, uniforms of authority, team uniform of commonality, clothing of protection, political, religious, sports affiliations, personal intent of working, playing, sports, sexual readiness or un-readiness or preference.
The clothing one wears tells others something about one's self. It is your advertising to society. It may be even your Freedom of Expression. But everybody in sight gets to read your advertising of what your are selling about your self and they get to "buy" or not. Don't be too shocked if you get a "buyer" Of course you can react to a stimulus. You just have to control your behavior. The rule isn't particular to this one stimulus.
I don't even consider Britain an ally, let alone Germany. Europe has been on its deathbed for over a hundred years but we keep reviving them. Let the eurotrash sink or swim on their own.
