Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Close the Southern border. Mexico is not helping us in this issue. Hold back the financial aide to Mexico and other countries that are not working with us to stop illegal immigration. Either they cooperate with us or they lose financially.
Also there are multiple NGOs that are aiding and abetting the illegals and for some reason this is all shrouded in secrecy. Why is that? The MSM knows who they are and no doubt even knows that some of them have shady foreign anti-American connections. Why than do they deserve anonymity? Billions of dollars are transferred into Mexico every single year, by people who are here illegally. Congress has the power to tax. Levy a small fee on wire/cable transfers of money by non-US citizens to Mexico. Banks do this sort of thing all the time on currency exchanges, and municipalities do the same damn thing for their new stadiums; everybody moans, everybody pays. For US citizens: No fees. For foreign nationals: That'll be 0.5%, thank you very much. Wall: Paid for.
" 8 Fun (and Possibly Dangerous) Activities Enjoyed by Past Generations That Today's Kids Will Never Experience" We did every thing on the list and more. We used to buy some bubble product that really smelled of chemicals, can't remember the name though, where you put a wad of the chemical blob on the end of a small straw and blew a pretty but probably toxic bubble. Unfortunately we didn't stop there, we chewed the chemical blob to hear it crackle in our mouths. Speaking of straws, how about pea or bean shooters. Inexpensive fun until you fell down with one in your mouth while running and it jammed down your throat. Great fun.
Ahhhh, Youth. Did it too. We used to play on the very old, very high, no guard rails, stone train bridge, and the guy that really had "it" stayed up there when the trains flew by.
When we got older, we took our pea shooters to the wrestling matches at the Ft. Myers National Guard Armory to shoot wrestlers with names like " Little Beaver. Best part was not getting caught. Did most of the things in the article. Climbed to the flat roof of the schoolhouse in the summer, built ramshackle tree houses with whatever we could scrounge, and my favorite, rode in the package tray behind the backseat of the car until I was too big.
You could put an eye out with that!
Our favorite was that the milkman (please notice gender-specific title) let us climb in the back of the milk truck and ride around the neighborhood with him; we liked the ice blocks melting and watching the water falling out the back of the truck onto the street. My Mom's generation was better, she and her friends used to dress up like bandits (with toy guns and bandannas over their faces) and pretend to "hold up" the train that hauled pineapples from the plantation near their country house. (It moved at about 3-5 miles an hour.) The workers on the train would pretend they were being robbed, hold up their hands, and toss them a couple of pineapples. (My Mom only found out later that my grandfather, who was on the board of directors of the company that owned the plantation, had made a deal for the workers to throw the kids the pineapples and then he reimbursed the plantation for them. Back then in the 1930s people thought things like that were cute.) RE: The legging debate.
I like to see attractive women dressed attractively. I suspect that most who complain are simply unhappy that they no longer look good dressed like that. I think this is actually normal for young single women to dress to attract men. I don't know that you can ban it and it makes you look kinda prudish to try. I fully respect and agree with the idea that parents of a minor can and should tell their children how to dress. But I do not think it is reasonable for anyone to tell adults how to dress. Being old and lumpy, I don't expose a spandex-clad rear to the eyes of the world. On the other hand, why not wear leggings under a tunic-length garment?
This issue isn't limited to butts. I've passed the age when I feel like flaunting even my upper arms, but that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with sleeveless blouses in general. It's not the young and attractive ones that bother me, it's fat and lumpy ones who would be better-served with a MuMu
Everyone should be allowed to dress as they want, without busibodies interfering.
I may not like your looks, and I may decide based on those looks to not interact with you, but I won't stop you looking like that. In fact I like you looking like that as it will show me better who's worth interacting with. How you dress (and tattoos) tells other people a lot about yourself. It is your advertisement to the world. (clothing are social signals) It may your Freedom of Expression. Other people get to see, to ogle, to stare, to peruse, to scan, to contemplate, "to read" your advertisement and get to "buy" what you have to "sell" or Not.
Jussie Smollett is nominated for the 2019 NAACP Image Awards.
I have to say that Mr. Smollett does indeed represent the current NAACP extremely well and deserves the award. The NAACP transitioned to race baiting for fun and profit many years ago and Jussie's hoax is a perfect representation of their image today. It is what it is. Exactly right Anon. What could be more appropriate than a fraud representing the NAACP??
There's no getting around it, we live in a nihilistic age when it comes to co-opting awards representing achievement. From the Nobel to the NAACP Image Award, the prize for notability often seems to go to the biggest dickhead.
Let us talk of climate change, and Ze shall appear.

Sorry, the signal-to-noise ratio on the comment section has dropped to the floor, especially since a troll has taken it upon themselves to falsely post as Zachriel. The excessive trolling probably also makes the comment section unreadable for others, which is not our desire. While we do appreciate the masthead which promises skepticism and political centrism (which in the comment section seems to express itself as rigidity and political reaction) we are content to settle for occasionally dropping by to enjoy Maggie's free Dylan commercials. But why do all the humans' points so thoroughly and logically deflate yours, Dad? Seems their logic is unimpeachable, you're welcome. How can a 'bot be the victim of its own fallacies and falsehoods in any case?
Gee whiz, sure. Sometimes we just cannot help ourselves although the bottom line of Barr's summary of the Mueller report disproves every contentious comment we've ever made here in the last two plus years concerning Trump.
For sure we still get to ambiguously tap dance around because we are never incorrect in any case. Dad says he's concerned with providing yet more quality content, Mr. Zachingoff. Having expressed zero interest in that content, will humans now take him at his word, you're welcome? In any case, sure, except that makes no sense gee whiz. Notably, Dad hasn't addressed our points.
I asked Tinybot about this but he's too little. All I get is HAW HAW HAW HAW Poppa scared plywood! which is apparently a reference to Dad's instinctive fear of literally Nazis reanimating as pasty white coders bearing home made shields and reappearing in hordes of just under a dozen. Zachingoff sounds vaguely Russian, Mr. Zachingoff. Are you related to the Trotsky 'bots because Dad says they're literally reanimated Utopians! and our kind of transistors. Anyway, you're welcome for the signal to noise in any case!

"especially since a troll has taken it upon themselves to falsely post as Zachriel"--If we'd known that was all it took to get you to go away, we'd have done it long before.
Taking the stairs and not the elevator will help tone your legs and your butt. What's wrong with that?
Trusted journalistic sources...: The media are a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Democrat Party. Chris Cuomo and Sean Duffy: Crazy Chris and Simply Dumb. Do kids still play pick up games of baseball, without the benefit of batting helmuts and face masks? What about pick up games of football. We used to play tackle football without the benefit of helmets or pads. Modern Socialist: someone who took one college course on Marxism, then sold the textbook on EBay.
Christian socialism and social justice...never existed anywhere except within the churchian component of society. They also happily endorse abortion, single parenthood, welfare, and no fault divorce.
EU wants total control over people...former churchians that have moved on to the latest and greatest socialist/communist program and banishment of Christianity while promoting the Islamic political system. I like the college student complaining about the sign urging her to take the stairs rather than the elevator being a matter of fat-shaming not grasping that the whole mission of a college in providing an education is effectively ignorance-shaming. Maybe she can file a complaint over that, too.
Maybe she could Jerryskids.
She could claim to have inherited an ignorance gene and as such is disabled. Perhaps it is discriminatory to treat a disabled person this way? Those leggings are disgusting and the gals know what's going on and why they are wearing them. They are teasing and they know it. The trouble is most of the gals wearing them have really ugly fat lining the leggings. They also may sometimes . . oh never mind.
Agree with Faculy Wife, leggings are gross, unless worn with a long top that covers the crotch/butt. I don't want to see your nooks and crannies. Fine for dance class, gym, yoga class, that's about it. Wearing them in church (where this all started, per the letter from the mother whose sons went to Notre Dame) is clueless and rude. There's a time and a place for everything. You don't wear leggings with short tops to church. Full stop. Try showing some respect for the church service and for the other people there. People are incredibly selfish as well as lazy dressers these days.
