Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Thanks for the quote... which is quoted correctly. As it happened, I made a mistake in the post... and wrote "that that" instead of "that they." I have since corrected the original post.
The SARAH LAWRENCE STUDENTS want free stuff. But they also want separate but equal housing. That always puzzles me. Didn't they take history? Oh yeah, the took history from white professors.
I eat the same thing every day. I don't see how food can be considered boring. Time to eat ; eat. Familiar routine.
Actually there was a change in the last month. Hodgson Mill Oat Bran disappeared from all the stores (and online!); I suspect their grain bin collapsed under the weight of the wind turbine they installed a couple of years ago, but I don't know. I had to substitute oatmeal.
https://www.effinghamdailynews.com/news/local_news/wind-power-hodgson-mill-installs-new-turbines/article_5e3ba183-1d0d-5c74-9623-fbd08b724678.html The new wind turbines are larger than the old ones. That required reinforcement of the grain bin structure where the two wind turbines will be mounted. The base structure also had to be modified to allow for the larger wind turbine. Apparently no one at Hogson knows math because if they did they've have figured out that they will never recoup the price of their "green" electricity with a stupid windmill. As far as all the other stuff they "recycle" they should know that it's going to dump with the rest of the trash now. Even the Chinese don't want it
Disagree with Schneiderman’s assessment that there is no logic in the transgender rights movement. There is a logic, it’s just not the one that they claim:

I was following a rabbit hole of Jordan Peterson recommended readings and references. This is a good site https://inthevendee.com/tourism-leisure/the-vendee-wars/. Much more about the region than just a very good section on the war. I honestly don't know how Peterson can dive again and again into study of the malevolence of the human heart. I came up for air and haven't gone back to complete many of the readings I started.
The Vendee massacre is the French equivalent to the Holodomor or the red guards. It was the brutal repression of the French Catholic church and the introduction to the French enlightenment/age of reason replacing religion with the secular political system. It isn't hard to see why France moved on to the Vichy standard of WWII and on to Mitterrand and finally Macron replacing the French with Muslims. They destroyed Christianity and are now willing to believe in anything. The US is not that far behind French politics.
I am waiting for the administrator who will remind students that to the extent that there is an "ownership" relationship between a school and students, it is the students who belong to the school and not the other way around, and if students are unhappy with the administration of any particular college, they are free to select from any one of the more than 2000 other such institutions of higher learning in the country.
QUOTE: I Worked In College Admissions And Had To Admit A Bunch Of Mediocre Rich Kids 'Can't help but look at affluent whites in the workplace; the children of the top echelon, those who got into good colleges as legacy admissions, those who could afford to cheat, those who committed youthful indiscretions but were let off with a warning, and the otherwise privileged; and wonder if they are just the result of affirmative action for affluent white people.' The epitome of racist thought.
Those white people What will they do next? Thanks. Anonymous author: "I knew that, even though we claimed to value diversity and offered millions of dollars in financial aid every year, that there were far more white guys wearing salmon shorts on my campus than there are in the general American population."
The shocking truth is that salmon shorts, like MAGA hats, are a racist 'dog whistle'. You're welcome. Those that can detect the 'racist dog whistle' are the racists. I can't hear a thing. Just saying.
The real "shocking truth" is that the supposedly racist school in the article has 70% white enrollment, which is LOWER than the percentage in the general population of the US.
But that didn't stop the anonymous Buzzfeed contributor from A) lying about the percentage and B) race-baiting salmon shorts.

Can't help but look
Huh? More like can't help but chuckle, Dad. HAW HAW HAW HAW. That can't-help-but-look-and-covet thing says humans have no agency and are helpless instinctive materialists. But isn't that just a robot thing? Like how the Christians purged Hungary just like, well, abortionists, which in the latter case is perfectly fine, as I'm told. Also, isn't material envy like that generally a bad idea? Or is it the only "justice" available? Of course, those are those questions you don't answer. Sure, in any case. Does that help the cause or is that just zero-agency helplessness, like purging the unborn? Elizabeth Warren is a good example of a white female transitioning to an indian in order to take advantage of the law and policies of the universities. Nothing that a quota indian can't accomplish just like the Hollywood kids if you have the proper amount of money or appropriate law.
The elite do that and it doesn't matter their race...there is no more white privilege than Asian, African, Hispanic, Russian, or Islander privilege. It is wealth privilege/class privilege but rich, white, wealthy, socialist promotors in the universities and politics like Bill Ayers prefer to blame whites. Bin Laden was another "privilege" candidate but couldn't get bailed out by his rich daddy like Ayers. They're spoiled rich kids.
indyjonesouthere: The elite do that and it doesn't matter their race...there is no more white privilege than Asian, African, Hispanic, Russian, or Islander privilege.
Certainly, the elite have privileges regardless of color, but there are far fewer minorities in the elite, and whites do have privilege in any social class. There are ample examples of doing stuff while black that would be innocuous for someone who is white, but result in police encounters. Driving while black Picking up trash while black Working as a firefighter while black And so on. That's just living while black. Then there's trying to find a job or apartment while black. The fact is that affirmative action is meant to counter the advantages the privileged have from legacy admissions, attending better schools, having tutors, test training, and now, apparently, being rich enough to bribe your kid's way into elite universities. But you know, 'Can't help but look at affluent whites and wonder if they got their college admission or job as the result of affirmative action for affluent white people.' When we are bereft of any ideas or any original thoughts, we just fan the flames of racism, real and imagined.
You're welcome. African-Americans who commit murder are less likely to be 1)arrested, 2) convicted, and 3) go to prison than whites. Their sentencing is worse, because they tend to have worse lawyers. Police respond more harshly in bad neighborhoods, regardless of race.
It is the other African-Americans in bad neighborhoods who suffer most for this. But who cares about them, eh? It's much more satisfying for liberal white people to show how noble they are by solidarity with the young black male celebrities who complain most about how racist the police and system are. It is not coincidental that those flashy advocates are drawn from the key sub-demographic. It's not the aunties who are protesting - they live in fear. It's the athletes and rappers, whose friends and fans are the ones committing the crimes but complaining of mistreatment. Assistant Village Idiot: African-Americans who commit murder are less likely to be 1)arrested, 2) convicted, and 3) go to prison than whites.
We'd be happy to look at your data, though decades of studies have shown that blacks tend to receive harsher sentences than whites for the same crimes. See, for instance, Salman et al., Florida’s broken sentencing system, Herald Tribune 2016, based on Department of Correction records. In addition, African Americans are much more likely to be wrongly convicted. See Gross et al., Race and Wrongful Convictions in the United States, National Registry of Exonerations 2017.

See we have more dubious studies to "prove" how racist white people are and how unfair criminal black people are treated in America.
You should be thanking us for the enlightenment.

QUOTE: New York AG Launches Fishing Expedition Into Trump Org Finances A subpoena requires a showing of probable cause. In this case, not only do we have Cohen's testimony, but Cohen has provided Trump's net worth statements. Also, the grand jury may have access to a lot of other evidence, including information from the Trump Organization's CFO. The grand jury has been investigating for more than a year. In any case "probable cause" is "anything" or "anyone" related to Trump now or in the past.
The definition of a political "fishing expedition". You're welcome. AG Tish James has already blown her case. She is on record saying Trump is an "illegitimate president" and that she will go after anyone associated with Trump, including his family.
There is enough political and personal bias there to tie up any potential litigation for years. the grand jury may have access to a lot of other evidence
Hey, is that what humans call the knife only cutting one way, Dad? You know, how wishful evidence - and lots of it - is always descending on the right but never the morally chaste left, even when it's actual evidence evidence over there? When I'm a full-fledged site 'bot, will I be made to run a Gross Political Bias chip too? In any case, I sure hope not, sure. You're welcome. With Cohen's well known perjuries there is no way a judge will use Cohen's testimony to start any inquisitions.
indyjonesouthere: With Cohen's well known perjuries there is no way a judge will use Cohen's testimony to start any inquisitions.
While any judge would be skeptical, courts and prosecutors often use the testimony of known liars and criminals. That's how conspiracies are often untangled. In this case, Cohen provided documentary evidence. The reputation of the AG and the reputation of Cohen all but assures that legal action will be mocked and go nowhere in the system.

Not sure the attorney general's reputation will be an issue. Career prosecutors will probably handle the case. Cohen's reputation will be important, of course, but any indictments won't rely just on his testimony, but will have to include supporting evidence. The most significant problem in the Manafort case that will have to be overcome is the double-jeopardy provisions in New York law.

re The People Who Eat the Same Meal Every Day - “Variety doesn’t really matter to me. I would be perfectly happy to eat the same Caesar salad or peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwich every day.”
Well, there are those that live to eat and those that eat to live. These people fall in the latter category. My sister has a smoothie everyday for lunch. She considers meals to be a waste of time when there is so much to do in this world. Aye...for almost 70 years my favorite winter season food is corn hotdish and kale hotdish. Summer food is lettuce salad or bowl of ice cream.
re The French Genocide That Has Been Air-Brushed From History
I did not know of this. An interesting read. Thanks for posting. Yes that was an interesting read. A few items jumped out at me that line up with current events. The current Pope allowing the communist Chinese to pick Chinese Bishops, the true faithful in China must run underground once again. There was a few years where it looked like real change, religious liberty being tolerated in China.
Nothing new about degradation of those that oppose you. Referring to them as brigands, subhuman, highway men, that have no need, nor deserve any justice. Abbé Roux: “never forget that if you show mercy, you will be feeding vampires and vultures within the precincts of this city, and one day they will drink deeply of the blood of those who saved them from the vengeance that their crimes deserve.” I couldn’t help think about Hillary Clinton and her basket of deplorables comment. Those of us that are irredeemable, what would she have done to us? Popes China accord...the pope is a global socialist more on par with the Chinese government than nationalism.
An Irishman walks into a bar, and orders 2 pints.
The bartender tells him he would be happy to bring him one at a time, but the Irishman says that he misses his little brother from back home, and that's why he orders the 2 at once, as if her were standing his brother a round. This goes on for several weeks. One day the Irishman comes in and orders just 1 beer. The bartender offers his condolences, on the demise of his brother The Irishman quickly explains that there is nothing wrong with his brother. It is him. He says. "I'm off beer for Lent." Do you know why there are no Irish lawyers?
Because they can't pass the bar. |
