Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Sunday, March 3. 2019Trump talents, and life talentsMany people dislike or disapprove of Trump's personality style, or disapprove of the way he lives and speaks. Or his tendency for hyperbole (to put it kindly). Scott Adams likes to talk about his idea of personal "talent stacks" which can lead to success in individual life goals. If one's talent stack is not aligned with one's goals, success is possible but much less likely. Scott is not, politically, a Trump fan or voter, but admires his skills - his "talent stack". Talent stacks of course include more than math talent, or rhetorical talent, or IQ, or musical ability. It includes drive and energy, adventurousness, adaptability, sense of humor, integrity (rare in politicians and criminals), charm, temperament, likability, interpersonal warmth and connectivity, neuroticism or lack thereof, toughness, generosity of spirit or the opposite, etc. etc. Only one in a million have a single talent on which to build a world-class reputation without a stack (think Glenn Gould). And it's best to focus on one's talent stack instead on one's shortcomings - but those shortcomings sure can mess up your life goals. Reality's a bitch of a grader. But to get back to my point (that should be a Maggie's trademarked phrase), Trump gave a 2-hour speech at CPAC which sounds like some combination of entertainment, reality/political TV, and hypomanic explosion. Yes, Trump is crude, impulsive, slippery, etc but he has instincts and has been doing his best for the country. At this moment in time, I doubt anybody could do better. As Powerline notes, the man is a whirlwind. Trump Just Might Have Won the 2020 Election Today. The president's speech at CPAC was a bedazzling mix of bravado, B.S., humor, and positive vision no Democrat will be able to top. To his credit, self-deprecating humor too. I like people who can mock themselves. It saves you the trouble...

I don't listen to or read speeches, doesn't matter if an "R" or a "D" is giving them.
From the Powerline link:
QUOTE: Trump announced that he will soon sign an executive order denying federal aid and research dollars to universities that fail to protect free speech. As you can imagine, that got an enthusiastic reaction from the predominantly youthful audience. Hear, hear. The President said, "The economy is so strong even Jussie Smollett had to hire 2 new people."
There are two kinds of people who seek public acclaim and notoriety. One chooses to speak his mind, what you see is what you get. You may like them or dislike them but it makes no difference to them they speak what they believe and let the chips fall where they may. The other type is more common, they say what you want to hear, they say what they think will do them the most good, they say what they are told to say and they are deceitful and cannot be trusted. If they hadn't chosen politic, Hollywood, the MSM, etc. they probably would have been used car salesmen or drug pushers. They are really good at what they do, slick, polished and can fake sincerity while passing a lie detector test. 99% of the media, politicians, actors and comedians are this second type. If they are famous and you know them more than likely they are scoundrels and dangerous and can't be trusted with your kids, your money or your rights. Most people will be fooled by these slick lying liars.
Trump is the first type. He isn't perfect, he has his faults and the MSM makes sure we all know what they are. ALL of the never Trumpers, without exception, are that second type. You want to like them, they are usually slick, smooth and they say nice things. And they do all this while their hands are in your pockets. This isn't really a hard choice, but I believe it is easier as you get older and gain more experience with human nature. Trump isn't in this for himself or his family. Every other politician is stealing you blind and all the billionaires want open borders because they will be able to become multi-billionaires. The ONLY thing stopping them right now is Trump. The ONLY thing standing between the left making America a third world country and looting the treasury is Trump. Sure! Someone else may step up once Trump is gone but right now there is no one. Trump is all we got. I don't think I would want Trump for a neighbor. Or for a dad. And I doubt I would want a guy like him to come to the door for a date with my daughter.
But as a guy who says (most) of what our politicians need to hear, I think he is doing great. His performance thus far beats the hell out of what Hillary would be doing right now. I would vote for him to be reelected if the election was today. I must be pretty crude by some of your high and mighty standards to dislike President Trump for not meeting up to your high on top of that moral mountain Moses kind of better than thou Ivy League crap. I like Trump just as he is. He’s done far better than any of you ever could while taking on just about every two bit crooked politician, lobbyist, communist and pos main stream media backstabbing anti America excuse for a legal citizen....
I agree totally. I prefer blunt honesty to slimy lying to please "the people.
Amen, Frank. The author would have melted with the drill sergeant language I endured in 1970! I prefer my truth unvarnished. America is a mess, close to being FUBAR, and The Tree of Liberty is looking thirsty.
"America is a mess, close to being FUBAR, and The Tree of Liberty is looking thirsty."
Absolutely correct. In fact it is so bad that I doubt even Trump can turn it around. The biggest thing/event that scares me is what the Democrat party has turned into. They intend to win, they will cheat and steal to do it and then they intend to rule over us with an iron fist. In 2020 you will see the dirtiest and most dishonest election ever and even while the entire election is in doubt the Democrats will seize power and shut down any argument about the elections. THEN they will make you deplorables pay. I honestly don't see how we can avoid the coming economic crash and fighting in the streets. We are the next Venezuela. That's what I am trying to prepare for if preparing is even practical.
One thing to keep in mind; the Democrats want our economy to crash before the election. Remember in 2007 and the Summer of 2008 the Democrats were really talking down the economy spreading scare talk? And almost on que in October before the elections the market crashed and the bubble burst. Expect this again, the so desperately want power they are willing and eager to crash our economy again.
Did I mention that the stock market is seeing record breaking insider stock selling? Just saying... Trump has to win Florida to win in 2020. Not likely. If necessary the Democrats will steal the election using ballots harvested from the ballots printed for the newly-minted felon voters. Republicans will do nothing about it.
