We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Reading this it is clear that many common and normal things can easily be misrepresented to appear to be terrible. It would appear that a lot of "rape" is decided the next morning and should be called regret. That a lot of "sex violence" victims were willing participants but cannot resist the attention seeking and "me too" temptation. A surprisingly large number of these "victims" return eagerly and willingly the next evening to the same venues and do the same things. And yet they are somehow victims and the perp deserves 30 years in jail. Often the "perp" is the boy next door who was eagerly lead on by the "victim".

How do we reconcile reality and real life with actual criminal activity? As humans we actually understand other humans and their foibles and often know what really happened. How do we clean up this mess so that fewer innocent men are punished while real crime is correctly punished?

I am reminded of a good friend whose son was accused of statuary rape about 30 years ago. The father of the girl didn't like her boyfriend and when he turned 18 (the girls was 17) he charged the boy with statuary rape. Long story short the boy got probation, lifelong sex offender registry and married his girlfriend and had three children. To this day "grandpa" is not part of the family (that worked well for him) and the young man still struggles to work because of the whole sex offender registry thing. Where was the crime? How many times has this happened and for what?

I had never heard of Aziz Ansari, but I knew the story was not going to end well at the second sentence, ...they went back to his house.... Do mothers not talk to their daughters about some of these dating problems? Can these women not understand the message that sends? I know these are old-fashioned concepts, but it seems that simple dating rule would have prevented this whole problem.

My older two teens both LOVE the TV series Parks and Rec. Ansari was an important character on the show. FWIW, a lot of my generation knows him from it, too.

The author of the story is not in my tribe, but she is so close to a great truth: if you are serious about stopping violence against women, there HAS to be more attention paid to non-white men. She dances around that point. In fact, she never stated it directly.

The left won't say it because it sounds racist. So instead she says we need more money and services for immigrants.

Ok. Put on those rose-colored glasses then, lady. But after the government handouts, the next step is to insist that your immigrant hordes act civilized while they are sponging your welfare payments.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali was mutilated and left her country to avoid a forced marriage. Ask her who the real enemies of feminists are.

In the Western World, anti-Semitism is relegated to the fringes of politics. On the hard right it's the usual pathetic neo-Nazis and Holocaust-deniers, though actuarial tables seem to be catching up with the latter. I presume it would be safe to say that Nazi flags have no more chance of ever winning favour with Americans than they do with Canadians? You know, what with our shared history of comprehensively defeating Nazi Germany and everything it stood for.

On the hard left it's all about "anti-Zionism", but no one is fooled, other than the useful idiots who get involved with nonsense like the BDS movement.

But in the Muslim World, anti-Semitism is front and centre; the ridiculous Protocols of the Elders of Zion isn't just a ridiculous fabrication, it's a serious publication that gets routinely cited in the Arabic media and is widely circulated in the Middle East.

YouTube is a subsidiary of Google which is a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc., which is a multinational corporation. It is allowed to establish it's own terms of service to cater to it's intended target demographic.

It just so happens that their current target demographic is knee jerk snowflakes who need to quickly bury the truth whenever it offends their delusional mindset. It is all perfectly legal.

And while these entities may be indeed too big to fail, I can't help but be reminded of a blog called Little Green Footballs back at the dawn of the blogging age.

LGF quickly grew to have a huge following for the time, then the blogger started banning everyone he didn't agree with, and before long his traffic evaporated.

I would think there would be a lesson to be learned there for the likes of youtube, facebook and twitter. . . .

I really don’t get how Goldberg and Hayes think there is a market for yet another Never Trump website, or print magazine. Isn’t that what National Review is? I sometimes wonder if Goldberg believes anything that he wrote in Liberal Fascism. How you write that book and pull the lever for Hillary is beyond my capabilities of reason.

My wife works with half a dozen other women. Each evening she tells me about a different drama. They really "hate" each other so much they just can't get along and thus will do things to poke and irritate each other. Jonah hates Trump like all these women hate each other. He hates him so much he would rather throw away his conservative ideals before he would give Trump a break. He cannot help himself, if there is a mike or a camera he feels compelled to try to hurt Trump. All of the never Trumpers actually and truly hate Trump more than they love their country.

Agree. I used to get the G-File and I bought a copy of 'Liberal Fascism' (which I still recommend) but no more, and I'm glad he's going to quit NR. It actually might become readable if he takes French with him. Anti-Trump statements are like a tic with him. He can't get through a column without one or more, even on topics that have nothing to do with Trump. He ruined an entire column on the Jussey Smollett fiasco with a NeverTrumper fantasy that somehow somewhere a guy wearing a MAGA hat was going to fake a hate crime that got as much coverage as Smollett, as opposed the regular incidents where people wearing them are actually assaulted.

Boiled down, it's because Trump isn't 'their kind'. Really.

Trump wasn't a lifelong politician, or political animal/pundit/commentator.

He was a (shudder) businessman, and a pretty darn successful one. (Which makes him automatically suspect right there - how can you actually be 'successful' if you aren't screwing over all the people?) Look at how the 'upper crust' seems to ALWAYS disdain the folks who, by their own means, get prosperous. We're looking at the 'upper crust' in politics, who have worked hard to get into their positions and see Trump as an interloper who must be stopped.

Add in that Trump 'jumped the line' - instead of being a political animal, getting into politics at a low level then working his way up the food chain in a regular party and THEN, when the PARTY approves, running for the office of President, he just came out and said... "Hey, things aren't going so hot, I think I can do better, vote for me."

And he had the temerity to both refuse help from the Permanent Republican Election Experts, and actually WIN. (I really think the regular Repub candidate, no matter who it might have been, would have gracefully lost to Hillary because any accusation of misogyny would have made them curl up in a fetal position instead of fighting back.)

And to make matters worse, you know all the things the upper crust on the right have been complaining about for literally decades? Trump's actually trying to fix them. What are they going to be able to bitch about if he does?

So - yeah. They hate him because he's an existential threat to the system, and he has no handles they can use to manipulate him to do what THEY want him to do.

And even though I was a reluctant Trump voter in '16, I'll likely be donating to his campaign for '20. He's proved himself, as far as I'm concerned, to be the President we need at the time we need him.

Sam, you touch on an excellent point. If kids can't bring a pocket knife to school because it is dangerous, how can they possibly wield a scalpel in dissection class? Not letting kids use sharp instruments in school is just a logical extension of the pocket knife policy.

This is really weird. I used to work with Aziz, and Ansari's, multiphase, vertical flow correlations in the oilfield. I've met one of them but can't remember which one.
