"A CURE FOR CANCER? ISRAELI SCIENTISTS SAY THEY THINK THEY FOUND ONE - 'We believe we will offer in a year's time a complete cure for cancer.'"
For some reason this reminds me of a very sardonic line I once heard: "The reason there is no cure for cancer yet is that the scientist who was going to discover it was gassed at Auschwitz as a child." My concern is that if this was a viable cure for cancer that our government agencies would still take 4 plus years to approve it.
Also I wonder if as some press releases have implied, is this a cure for all cancers? Again I would have a concern that if it were a cure for all cancers that all resources would still not then by put into making this new cure available for all. Our bureaucracy would continue to funnel money into various dead end programs because no one wants their of gored, instead of moving that funding to gen up the ability to provide this new life saving treatment. A broad-spectrum cancer cure? I'd love to see that happen - had too many people taken from my life by that foul disease...
And of course, even if the Israelis have found a cure, they'll still be pilloried as Zionists by the "progressives".
(Hmm... I wonder how many Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions activists who get cancer would boycott the cure on principle because it came from Israel?) "Professor Angry That University Is Letting Shapiro Speak: He 'Espouses Hate Speech, And Is Linked To Numerous Hate Groups'"
You know, I'm not a fan of Noam Chomsky, but he did get it right in one: "If we don't believe in freedom of expression for people we despise, we don't believe in it at all." I feel the same way about Chomsky, but also agree with that statement. Thanks for reminding us that even those wo arrogantly pontificate can be right once in a life.
"Rupert Gather: Sovereignty in an Age of Globalization"
Ultimately, sovereignty is the sine qua non of nationhood. It sometimes seems like every generation always has to relearn this blazingly obvious truth the hard way. "Guardian: What has happened in Venezuela is a coup. Trump’s denial is dangerous"
The Venezuelans soiled their own nest long ago, thanks. Also, the deafening silence from all the usual "progressive" suspects about the Chavista hucksters as Venezuela swirls down the toilet is quite telling. Oh, and Maduro has Russia and China on his side. That just about says it all. I can readily distinguish between a coup and a rebellion in a free democracy. The distinction is lost on me in a totalitarian state. Venezuela is pretty far gone along this spectrum.
re -20 degrees F in Madison: I went for a walk, and I survived. I wasn't even particularly cold. Let's back off on the weather drama, okay?
She went for a brisk walk and then back into her warm house? Wow! Suppose she slipped and fell, injured herself and wasn't able to get up. How long would it be before the cold affected her as she was lying there? She should try working outdoors in the cold, exposed to the wind, perhaps while wearing wet mittens and then see how cavalier she is about the cold. I readily concede that the media over dramatizes everything they touch. Doesn't change the fact that extreme cold can be dangerous. Cold- Check out some of the videos of people living in Siberia where the schools don't close until -60 and the kindergarten kids are out playing on the playground at -50.
Venezuela- What a mess. My heart breaks for all the citizens suffering from the consequences of their votes. Like most people, they voted for "free" but no one told them that there wouldn't be anything available at any price. QUOTE: Did Virginia’s Governor Just Endorse Infanticide? Uh, no. mudbug: Then maybe you can tell us, in the context of a late term abortion, after the baby was delivered, what the discussion between the doctors and the mother would be about.
Northam is a physician and pediatric neurologist. He was talking about a baby that is dying naturally, and the decisions parents and doctors have to make about care. The governor was trying to smooth over the testimony of the bill's sponsor, Kathy Tran, who said explicitly that the bill would allow abortion up to the time of delivery to protect the mental health of the mother. (ie: I have anxiety, I'm depressed, I'm worried)
His comments did not have the intended effect. That he is a pediatric neurologist is immaterial. If you read (or listen to what he said) he said that there MAY severe deformities, or there MAY be a fetus that's unviable. Those are possibilities. Those are not prerequisites in his comments. He was defending/explaining the abortion bill which also does not list the preconditions under which the "mother" could abort her child in the ninth month of pregnancy other than the life (there is no threat to the "mother") or health of the "mother" which could mean anything.
mudbug: If you read (or listen to what he said) he said that there MAY severe deformities, or there MAY be a fetus that's unviable.
That's right. He is discussing if the baby is dying. Do you abort at the last moment? No. You generally give birth, then if there is no reasonable chance of survival, the parents in consultation with their doctors may decide to make the baby comfortable as it dies. It's not an unheard of situation, the mother holding the child while the newborn breathes its last. The rest is just right-wing truthiness.

None of which has anything to do with the bill.
The Governor responded with a non-sequiter about delivering a baby who is dying. A situation that has nothing to do with the bill. He was basically saying two contradictory things: "Nobody ever kills a baby during delivery for trivial reasons, but we desperately need a bill that ensures the right to kill a baby during delivery for trivial reasons." It's very zachriel-like in it's deceitfulness. As Bird Dog said....evil.

We did not ignore the point of your comment, but explicitly rejected your premise. You were saying that he was talking about babies that may or may not be viable, when it is clear from context, he is referring to babies that are not viable. Northam: {Third-trimester abortions are} “done in cases where there may be severe deformities. There may be a fetus that’s not viable. *So in this particular example*, if a mother’s in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen. The infant would be delivered, the infant would be kept comfortable, the infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired. And then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother.” Some parents would choose extreme artificial measures, even if there is little chance of survival. Others would prefer to allow a natural death. Of course, people lie because lying often works.

It's a fourth trimester abortion...listen to the weasel words carefully. They indeed intend to allow abortion AFTER birth and gave SOME reasons to deflect from their barbarian attitude toward the baby.

And without a strict prohibition against letting a baby die, Gasbot, us normal humans naturally reject your monstrous premise. This is because normals like us know the left is right back to its ground zero.
Eugenics. Or whatever diseased manipulations of normalcy and goodness they can conspire. Modus operandi. Or to put it another way - the way you invariably ignore on a daily basis because it ties your diseased bullshit right up in knots - why is the left's Utopia so contingent on variables, assumptions, and outright lies? On theft and death? Why goes your goodness require so much evil? What's the benefit here, creep? Normal human people persons, unlike lying clattering site robots, realize immediately and instinctively when they're being lied to. By inverting the underlying foundation of this state of affairs you are in effect promoting a law in which there is no prohibition against, as you put it, letting a baby die. You know, letting a baby die because letting a baby die is assured to, wait for it, let a baby die. Guaranteed. The left's many ghouls know that nothing is illegal unless specifically made unlawful. Best recourse? Don't include a strict prohibition and just let the deliberate, default effect of this thing be pure evil. "Reject the premise" of the sun above your clattering tinpot dome but we all know what you're really doing. So do you. I see now that "Gasbot" was entirely too charitable.

Notice this little rhetorical trick by zachriel.
He quotes Northam this way. {Third-trimester abortions are} “done in cases where there may be severe deformities. There may be a fetus that’s not viable. *So in this particular example*, if a mother’s in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen. Putting a period after the word deformities makes it sound like Northam was exclusively talking about non-viable babies as an example. But if you listen to the interview, Northam did not put a period there. When you include this context, it's clear that Northam was saying that a child born with severe deformities could be left to die. But again, this all Overton Window bullshit because the law was intended to allow the abortion of healthy 40 week old babies. Evil. Evil. Evil.

That makes zero sense. There is no need for any new law regarding parental decisions about babies born with incurable conditions.
“If a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen. The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother.” The only way this make any sense at all is in the context of a botched partial birth abortion. Christopher B: The only way this make any sense at all is in the context of a botched partial birth abortion.
Quite the contrary. It refers to delivering a baby with a terminal condition, rather than aborting at the last moment, delivery being generally safer than abortion at that late stage.

Evidently they had to pass the bill for Northam to find out what's in it.
Continuing the tradition that the public not be informed about what the laws actually are, Governor Ralph Northam made comments this week that either he doesn’t know what’s in the bill his party is supporting or he straight-up lied. Discussing a new abortion bill brought up by Democrats in the state legislature that would legalize abortion up until the point of birth, Northam insisted late-term abortions would only occur if there was approval by “more than one physician.” That’s actually what the proposed legislation aims to change, requiring only one doctor. https://www.nationalreview.com/the-morning-jolt/safe-and-rare-also-means-post-birth-abortion/ Christopher B (quoting): Discussing a new abortion bill brought up by Democrats in the state legislature that would legalize abortion up until the point of birth, Northam insisted late-term abortions would only occur if there was approval by "more than one physician."
That's a fair point, though it's not clear from context whether Northam is referring to current law, the new law, or simply standard medical practice. Here's the exact quote: Northam: "When we talk about third-trimester abortions, these are done with the consent of obviously the mother, with the consent of the physician — more than one physician, by the way — and it's done in cases where there may be severe deformities. There may be a fetus that's non-viable." QUOTE: Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam (D) stunned many people on Wednesday by saying some babies should be allowed to die right after they're born. End-of-life decisions should be left to families in consultation with their doctors and pastors. But when a baby is terminal, then many people choose a comfortable death over extreme artificial means that may just prolong the baby's pain. Northam: Third-trimester abortions are “done in cases where there may be severe deformities. There may be a fetus that’s not viable. So in this particular example, if a mother’s in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen. The infant would be delivered, the infant would be kept comfortable, the infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired. And then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother.”
Of course, people lie because lying often works. Northam: Third-trimester abortions are “done in cases where there may be severe deformities.
Then why do we need a law that allows third trimester abortions to be done for trivial reasons? The only correct answer is "because evil". QUOTE: There an 18-to-24-inch baby, who did not yet have eyes, was lying in a clear glass pan, she recalled in horror. It was “screeching, making this noise” that “sounded like a little alien,” she said. It “really freaked me out,” she said, causing her to leave the room. -testimony at Gosnell trial QUOTE: Making this noise” “like an alien”? That’s called crying. It’s what human babies do when they’re in distress, in this case, the ultimate distress. The “aliens” here are the inhuman monsters who caused that distress. So . . . if a baby screams during an outside-the-uterus “abortion,” does it make a sound? Or, to put it another way, if an abortionist goes on trial for murdering infants, but the media refuses to cover it, is it really happening? -- right wing echo chamber Is the left even moved by this horror?

There is good news, Trump has nominated 3 very qualified judges for the 9th circuit. Now let's see if the Republicans in the senate can screw this up in their zeal to not give Trump what he wants. Let me guess; Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski and Mitt Romney will waiver and whine for a couple of weeks before deciding.
The chilling part of the Virginia Governor's comment is that he is a former pediatric neurologist.
Seriously! Let's stop calling women who get an abortion "mothers". Let's call them murderesses or baby killers. To make it more PC we can call them "legal" baby killers.
Facebook Tricked Kids and Parents for Video Game Purchases
QUOTE: Facebook encouraged game developers to let children spend money without their parents’ permission – something the social media giant called “friendly fraud”. An internal Facebook survey of users found that many parents did not know Facebook was storing their credit card information. Parents also did not know their children could use their credit card without re-entering a password or some other form of verification. Facebook game revenue from children for three months from Oct. 12, 2010, through Jan. 12, 2011 was $3.6 million. Facebook had internally identified the problem in 2011 and actively chose not to fix it. They made decisions to increase this game revenue. In 2011, Facebook was preparing to IPO. Facebook’s IPO stock offering was May 17, 2012. Facebook encouraged developers to let children make purchase mistakes. Facebook told developers to give free virtual items to users who complained, things such as flaming swords, extra lives and other in-game enhancements. A child would play a video game and then click in the corner to get new items or abilities. This would trigger a purchase but there be no notice or verification. https://www.nextbigfuture.com/2019/01/facebook-tricked-kids-and-parents-for-video-game-purchases.html#more-154097 If I'm not mistaken, there was an election in Venezuela under the rules of their constitution and this guy was duly elected. Maduro doesn't accept the legitimacy of that election (sound familiar?). Trump is simply recognizing that legitimacy.
I seem to remember early on in Obumble's regime where the same thing happened in Nicaragua or Ecuador and he refused to recognize the constitutionally elected individual and mad esome effort to actually oust him Dennis: If I'm not mistaken, there was an election in Venezuela under the rules of their constitution and this guy {Guaidó} was duly elected.
That is not quite correct. There was a sham presidential election in which the current president, Nicolás Maduro, won 2/3 of the vote. That result has been contested. Juan Guaidó is head of the National Assembly, who can become the interim president under the constitution, if there is a vacancy in the office of the presidency. What we need is some videos showing the grisly truth about abortion. Show a perfect child delivered and then killed by the doctor. Show the doctor killing a child in the womb and then pulling the body apart to get it out. Put this on TV at dinner time on all the channels. If abortion is so effing good let's show it in all it's glory.
Israel cures cancer-
Just a reminder...it was a miraculous cure for cancer that caused the zombie/vampire apocalypse in I Am Legend. IMHO, the constitutional guarantee to a right to terminate the life of unborn children in the womb, codified by specious legal arguments in 1973, created a significant amount of societal confusion about the value, and meaning, of human life... Back in 1971, author Ken Kesey observed, "I feel abortion to be probably the worst worm in the revolutionary philosophy, a worm bound in time to suck the righteousness and the life from the work we are engaged in..." He goes on quite elegantly for such a brutal topic, in this article from Paul Krassner's "The Realist" (pgs 46-47) http://www.ep.tc/realist/90/46.html "These beings, regardless of not only race, creed and color but as well as of size, situation or ability, must be treated as equals and their rights to life not only recognized but defended! Can they defend themselves?" In inimical fashion, as soon as his opinion on the matter was expressed, the feminist community piled on him (bet Kesey would be glad there was no social media to eat him up and spit him to the curb as in present day opinion-sharing so often yields...) and Kesey ended his rather half-serious political aspirations at that time... People who defend abortion are either liars, ignorant, or evil.

Not, it's not a coup. My comment here points out that to Chavistas, there are good coups and then there are bad coups. Celebrations and Criticisms on Anniversary of 1992 Coup Attempt in Venezuela. QUOTE: Twenty-one years after Hugo Chavez launched an aborted coup and first became known on the national stage, Venezuelans are divided on how the 1992 coup attempt should be remembered today. Chavistas celebrate the Feb 5 coup attempt every year. The Chavez government and its supporters routinely celebrate the February 4th anniversary and have declared it the “Day of National Dignity”. On Monday, thousands of people gathered in Caracas for a massive rally with the presence of government ministers and officials of the armed forces. We used to celebrate life, now the maniacal left celebrates death of children at a legislative signing party. What's next, baby parts on amazon, or how about the sale of the dead child to a satanic cult. How sick this world has become.
