We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Warren's net worth is in the neighborhood of $10 million. She makes considerable money through writing. Warren has released her tax returns from her time in public office. Her 2017 adjusted gross income with her husband was $913,000. They paid about 1/3 in taxes, and 1/10 in charitable donations.

For the sake of argument, I'll accept the $10M number. That being the case, she will not be subject to her new tax.

Sort of like Ted Kennedy not worrying about raising taxes. If he had most of his money in municipal bonds, his tax liability would be minimal.

Make no mistake, this is NOT hypocrisy. This is a fascist left wing gun grab that they must have in order to continue with their master plan. The left likes guns just fine thank you. But they fear guns in the hands of law abiding people who are not useful idiots. Look at Venezuela, prior to Chavez law abiding Venezuelans could own guns. Most Venezuelans were not worried when guns were banned because Chavez was freely spreading the nations wealth that had been taken from oil producers. The "promise" of socialism had not yet come face to face with the reality of socialism. When that happened and the people began to starve to death as their money endured inflation rates in excess of a million percent. But what could they do? By then the government had the only guns and the people had only rocks. Now Venezuelans are being killed and disappeared with no recourse.

If you read "A date gone wrong quickly" from yesterday and the comment thread you may have noticed the discussion around the baffling rise of the "political non-sequitur." I've experienced this and love the naming of it. It's when you are talking about some mundane thing and someone suddenly blurts out some rah rah orange man bad or feminist thing or MSM cause of the moment and everyone is suppose to grunt enthusiastic agreement. It's a bonding thing. I had an aha moment reading this "Bad Crazy" post off of Ace. https://accordingtohoyt.com/2019/01/18/bad-crazy/ Its a little long but she really gets going 2/3 through. Lets just call this what it is, fascism. It is the relabeling of everything you oppose to be terrible and therefore must be fought against even using the Brown Shirts (or Antifa black shirts) to beat you up. This is EXACTLY what was happening in Europe in the 30's and exactly what was happening in Russia in the 20's and before. This is what happened in various South and Central America countries during our lifetime. This is how you overthrow governments, by scaring and silencing enough people. It now requires great strength and fearlessness to wear a MAGA hat and that was exactly what they wanted. Any discussion is abruptly ended by labeling you as a racist AND it allows/encourages the useful idiots to attack you either on social sites or in person. Expect more of this not less. Next step will be government sanctioned/encouraged assaults on people with a smirk or punchable face.

I don't know who I am paraphrasing but someone said "Revolutions happen when the people realize that they are not alone." I did not expect Trump to win, but now we know that at least 62 million voters were not satisfied with the status quo.
I was having my car inspected just before the 2016 election. The people, in the waiting room, gave off signals to each other and when they realized it would be safe to do so, talked about the upcoming vote. That's when I realized that Trump had a lot of support. Unlike the media's insinuations, the waiting room was not occupied by drugged up, toothless, gun toting, foul mouthed, illiterates but normal, articulate, civilized, working suburbanites, who vote. The media and the political class hit the submerged part of the iceberg, when they stifled free expression. That's the price of self deception

I can't believe that there will not be a backlash due to this week's tsunami of child and Catholic bashing. I was awed by the blatancy of the deceitful coverage. Some of the material I saw and read was so grotesque, it's what I imagine lynch mob mentality to be like. I am looking at you Ruth Graham. If you haven't read her creepy screed, do so; it is Himalayan in its malice and projection.

More good news. I read on another blog that the Covington diocese is cooperating with prosecutors too preserve evidence. The diocese, as most are aware, didn't cover itself with glory and has apologized for caving to media pressure. Not to defend it, but the spokes people were ambushed.

In other news, young hockey players, in Fort McMurray AB, were also subjected to a social media lynch mob for appropriating First Nations dancing and drumming, despite being Metis themselves. Maybe Professor Peterson will weigh in on this.
