Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Your 10% comment about "bums, addicts, mentally-ill, and vagrants" is spot on. I was wondering if that is personal observation or something documented?

I filled three of those for a time in my life. Got myself sorted out and turned out fine. Was quite a worry to my family, though, which I will always regret.

Adam Schiff and all the Democrats on his committee knew everything in that article and are apparently ok with it. That tells you everything you need to know about Democrats, their honesty, and what they will do to get and maintain power.

State debt is the ticking time bomb that will explode our economy. For most states the cause is simply excessive spending on state employees and their retirement. But for many states the shear number of illegals they are "supporting" is driving their debt. Take the California teachers strike for example; the current teachers salary is $73,000. If all of the illegals were deported the school system would be able to double teachers salaries AND still cut their budget. Many states have a similar problem with their school budgets, i.e. the cost of illegal aliens children. Some states are so deep in debt that some form of bankruptcy seems inevitable. Probably the first few states will be bailed out by federal tax money but even this will only exacerbate the federal debt problem. The chickens WILL come home to roost, it's just a question of when.

Microsoft would be better off just pledging $250 million to make sure the hostels and missions have plenty of bedspaces for extreme weather conditions, lots of food in their kitchens to serve hot meals and some funding for medical care for addicts.

Take the other $250 million and offer low-cost mortgages to deserving couples trying to make a start in life - or hell, just build some reasonably-priced developments.

After being selected as a winner for its own purposes by the U.S. government early in its development, installing the Peter Pan of Tech, Zuckerburg, as its poster child, Microsoft has never had to use good business practices to grow and evolve as other true entrepreneurships must. All this razzle dazzle is simply covering for money stolen from the taxpayer to fund the Deep State's endless experiments in crowd control and consolidating power.

The one CA experiment that worked for the homeless was redesigning cargo containers into secure mini-homes with sufficient power to run a light bulb, a heat plate and repower an Obama cell phone. They came with bullet-proof glass and heavy duty locks so personal gear couldn't be stolen. Private land owners turned over plots/unused parking lots for the installation of these tiny houses. The mayor said they didn't meet such-and-such standards. Poof! They were carted off to trash.

The stupidity of politicians never ceases to amaze me. Thank the Lord, Trump is not a politician.

Pa worked several jobs to keep the family going, early in Vanguard's existence they employed agents on a small commission to do some networking trying to find customers for their funds. He sold a few to some friends and acquaintances and added his own fairly meager savings to Vanguard funds.

He passed away some years back, never having earned large incomes over his lifetime, but Ma is still alive and approaching the century mark. Her remaining Vanguard savings continue to do well and have enabled her to keep her home and live out her days in some comfort.

God bless the memory of Jack Bogle, he was a fine man whose legacy includes many thousands of stories like those of my parents. Investing for the common man, what an accomplishment.
