Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Fifth Circuit Ruling Dismantles Planned Parenthood Talking Points
PP is an abortion mill and everybody knows it Every thinking person who has read of Margaret Sanger's intentions in founding Planned Parenthood, understands that her main goal in creating her "abortion mill" operation, was to eliminate the "lesser" dark-skinned people (blacks and other undesirables) from the general population. And when you consider that almost 15 million black babies have been aborted (far more than two thirds of all abortions), I'd say she was successful in meeting her openly-stated RACIST goals! Just don't confuse the "Pussy-hat" types with these facts!!! Regarding the NPR babe with a worried frown: You're thinking of Judy Woodruff.
Happy to help - RE: six months' paid leave policy
I used to work for the federal government where the average maternity leave is four months. While someone was out on leave, not only did the other team members have to cover that person's job responsibilities but the rule was that only one person was allowed to be 'out' at a time. What that meant in practice was that while a team member was out of work bonding with her baby for four months none of her coworkers were allowed to go on TDYs, which in the federal government is the only way to cross-train for other jobs. So all professional development opportunities were cut off for the other team members during that time. You bet I resented it. 6 Months paid leave: Don't hire women of the age to become pregnant. Problem solved.
Don't forget to discriminate against homosexual males as well.
One of my coworkers who took four months of family leave was a gay man - he and his husband had a child via surrogate. Have to play the odds. I also discriminate against gas station fast food. It isn't "discrimination" that is bad.
RE: six months' paid leave policy
When no taxes are mentioned 61% of Democrats support establishing a 6-month paid leave program. . . However, Democratic support flips as soon as tax increases are mentioned. Altogether, these results indicate that while Californians may be excited about the benefits that this new program would offer, they are likely to resist the higher taxes likely required to make the program possible. SOP for introducing any new government payout always trumpets and moralizes the benefits while either ignoring the cost or wildly underestimating them. It boggles my feeble mind how the voters get duped every time. Who cares where criminals get their guns. There are always plenty of guns for criminals. There are numerous studies on guns, violence and criminality. Here are three of the major studies on the subject.
(1)Sociologists James Wright and Peter Rossi, “Under the Gun, Crime and Violence in America” (1983) National Institute of Justice (2)Professor Gary Kleck, “Point Blank, Guns and Violence in America” (1991). (3)Dr. Charles Wellford; et al, “Firearms and Violence: a Critical review” (2004) National Academy of Sciences. If you read these studies, you will find there is no evidence that demonstrates the availability of guns has any measurable effect on rates of homicide, suicide, robbery, assault, rape or burglary. I live outside Washington DC and there have been about a dozen murders this year. The police chief was on TV saying they are concentrating on getting the illegal guns off the street, as if illegal guns committ murder. I'm kinda laughing at your post, but then I live in Chicago where the PTB haven't figured out how to balance between an over-zealous, Jon Burge-style Wild West police department and the hundreds of homicides by gun each year. I think the LEOs are moving the bodies to the burbs to keep statistics within tolerance level of city residents.
It would be less funny if all those dang cameras hanging from every street light, "el" stop, shop front and residential complex worked and could actually capture the perps in action. But just like in the Capone days, nobody dint see nuttin' and the film is fuzzy - too fuzzy to verify the figure as human much less distinguish features. Alas, alack...the beat goes on. It's amazing what info the FAANGS can collect on us individuals, but those involved in illegal activities and, in fact, illegal aliens themselves cannot be identified, tracked nor sent back to their country of origin. I do NOT want them cluttering up our jails where they can pontificate to other inmates about the joys of criminal activity and recruit more gang members. Most illegal aliens would be easy to find if we wanted to. If they work they must use a ss #. If it is a stolen SS# we could identify that in seconds. Every month/quarter every business in this country is required to send in their and their employees payroll tax deduction into the SS admin. I could write a computer program that would kick out every suspicious use of an SS# and then send the ICE to that employer and check out the suspicious SS# holder. It is THAT easy.
I don't have as much of a problem with the content of NPR news as I do with the "I'm telling you something that smart people already know" intonation that they deliver it with, especially Lakshmi Singh.
But then I was taught critical thinking skills and the ability to detect and interpret bias in grade school. |
