We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Not to rain on the parade, but not only did Bach not have these musicians at his command, but he never had instruments like the piano Gould plays either.
And I find that the sound of a piano is alien to the composition, which was meant to be played on clavichords, harpsichords, and the like. The wires in those instruments are plucked by the mechanism, not hit by a felt-tipped hammer.
For me, at least, that changes everything. Your mileage may vary.
Rather instructive information, loved each phrase by yourself wrote about this topic.

Bach never had musicians at his disposal like those of today.
As we speak of "today", I'm reminded that Bernstein passed away in just over 28 years ago, and Gould just over 36. Both of them in this video from 1960 look very young compared to how I remember them.
There are musicians just as remarkable today, but perhaps they don't capture the popular imagination as easily, now that such TV isn't the integral part of our culture that it once was - Ford sponsoring prime-time educational symphony orchestra shows, for example.
BTW the last third of the above TV show is some modern composer named Stravinski conducting 3 movements of a piece he wrote called "The Firebird".
I think a big part of it is given today's contracts, you just can't afford to have 100 musicians sitting around for an hour while the conductor talks about music. The other side is that technology has advanced to the point where sports can be shown live, giving the networks something else to show on Sunday afternoons.

The mainstream media is finally starting to run the article about the Trump supporter college student who got kicked out of medical school at the University of Virginia to publicly debating with a far-left SJW communist professor. Here are two new ones:
This story, known as MedGate, has the potential to create a mass public outcry against our far left college system, and thus cause real damage to the student debt loan bubble.
