From Sunday's Lectionary: The Magnificat

Luke 1:46b-55

1:46b "My soul magnifies the Lord,

1:47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,

1:48 for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant. Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed;

1:49 for the Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name.

1:50 His mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation.

1:51 He has shown strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts.

1:52 He has brought down the powerful from their thrones, and lifted up the lowly;

1:53 he has filled the hungry with good things, and sent the rich away empty.

1:54 He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy,

1:55 according to the promise he made to our ancestors, to Abraham and to his descendants forever."

My church (Episcopal/Anglican) was destroyed by the Seattle women's nazi group in 2000. They first practiced their political muscle by forcing Katherine Jeffers SChori into the leadership role. Then they forced the acceptance of homosexuality upon this nation by using that church and the fight for "women's rights--the right to lead any damn way you want to". Over the years there were several good groups that started websites and provided support for those who had been disenfranchised by these actions. Those fine folks held on to their websites and the service the provided for years. Finally, one man lost his public job as a librarian and then of course his home. After hanging on for 14 years another man left for the Catholic church, as did the wonderfully well read and smart woman who shared that website with him ( I think she went Catholic, but am not sure). The Anglican priest who keep the site running offering daily prayer on the internet is gone. Now, there is only these wonderful reminders that you post weekly. Funny thing though the other day as we were visiting the coast and basking in the sun. I started a conversation with an African/American man sitting on the pier. Great conversation. When I joined up with my family again they asked me: "why do you stop to start conversations with strangers?" Without thinking my instant response came from a childhood spent in that wonderful church. My response was this: "just walking the talk." Thank you BD ALWAYS thank you. Have to agree with you on the feminists taking the church/churches down the wrong path.

My LCMS Church follows a three year Lextionary.
Today’s Gospel was from John 1 where the messengers of the Pharisees meet with John the Baptist asking who he is.

Some weeks your passages are spot on what our lessons were. I just find it interesting when the lessons your Sunday post match mine and when they diverge. Nothing else to write except I appreciate these Sunday morning posts.

Maybe some one will search up the history of the annual Lextioary and how it came to be across many denominations.
Think I read about it before here at Maggie’s. Maybe it would be a re-post.

At the festival of lessons and carols service at my Presbyterian (ARP synod) church today I read the lesson from John 1:1-14. This passage is a reminder to us all that the light still shines in the darkness and will overcome it.

I went through a parallel path down here in CA, faculty wife. A sad and weary tale to recount, the injustice and irony of it all is enough to embitter folk of faith, except it's not. Wife and I became catechumens in a local Orthodox parish for a while, but couldn't quite fit in, despite so much to commend. We are still walking and talking, though.
Covid and other health issues keep us homebound now. I always check in on MF Sunday mornings to get my cue for the readings. I am glad you are still 'walking the talk' and I join you in thanking BD for the weekly resets. Merry and Holy Christmas to you and all at Maggie's Farm.
