We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
On the narrow subject of tax breaks for a hugely profitable company, I agree with her.
On the other hand, I think these bidding (with tax dollars) wars are stupid. The only way I can see for it to end is if states started to repeal its corporate taxes. I would welcome that on both a state and national level. I'm not holding my breath.
Do not misunderstand the problem highlighted by Amazon. Cities and states give huge subsidies to these companies in preference over other companies. If I were a business owner in NY I would be outraged. Their property, state and sales taxes are outrageous not to mention their bureaucratic requirements and Amazon (and others) make backroom deals and sidestep all or most of these obstacles. What does that say to NY businesses? What it says is you can buy special deals with politicians and together we will screw over the middle class who will have to pay for all of this free stuff. IMHO politicians should not have the ability to make these deals. Everyone, every company should be treated the same. This is a moral and legal failure in our governments.
re Broward and palm Beach Counties: If a system is identified as intolerable but doesn't get changed in 18 years, I am inclined to believe that the powers that be find it to be to their advantage.
Another guy named Dan
Grew up in Southern California, behind Hollywood. All the boys in those days--in that place, bought second hand Fords, Chevys, and Mercs, (some Pontiacs). They spent the years from 15 to 16 "working on their cars". Tuning them up, changing out the engine parts, adding headers, etc., etc. My boyfriend at the time looked very much like McQueen. He hung out at the gas station where Steve worked on his bikes and cars. On two different occasions "Steve" game him a ride to our house so I got to see him through the windows! That was about 1956 or 57. He was just starting his TV series "Wanted Dead or Alive".
We had a lot of "B" stars and "new" stars in our neighborhood. They were nice even for a long time after they started to become famous. McQueen liked to help the young kids work on their cars. It was a real neighborhood.
Vote for Democrats, get Democrat policies. The people must want transgenderism, or they wouldn’t have voted for it.
For myself, the USA is proving that political parties (D, R, L) need have only tenuous connections to reality to be elected. In the past I thought that had been limited to N & C parties, but instead they proved trailblazers, showing the way to power unlimited by self- and other-deception.
