Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Wasn't the emergence of Nationalism in Europe triggered by the French wars on their neighbors to spread their perverted revolution?
The leader of a country warning us all about the dangers of nationalism is like Jeff Bezos lecturing about the horrors of capitalism.
It has more to do with Wilson and the first generation's Progressives. there was widespread persecution of ethnic minorities of all stripes in Europe, especially under the Hapsburg and Ottoman Empires. the Wilsonian solution was, rather than creating cosmopolitan states where the rights of all were respected, to carve up Eastern and Central Europe into ethnic enclaves who could continue to oppress the minorities in their newly constructed borders, under the banner of "self-Determination".
Ethnic identity politics was as bad an idea then as it is now. I quit subscribing to the Washington Post years ago because they simply became Pravda for the Democrats. There was no difference between the front pages and the editorial pages.
Fish Omega-3 "may" prevent heart attacks while Vitamin D and fish oil are useless. Or perhaps more accurately the very slight statistical anomalies are interpreted far more significantly than legitimate statistical practices would allow. This is a statistical game played out over and over again.
The statistical evidence that measles vaccine will prevent measles is about 100,000,000 times greater than the statistical evidence that Omega-3 will prevent heart attacks. In this debate the scammers should not even be allowed to use the word "prevent". Anti-biotics will prevent death from many of the old world diseases and again the statistics on this is about 100,000,000 times greater than the performance of Omega-3 preventing heart attacks. What this article/study is, is a scam perpetrated on those people who failed math in High School. Keep taking that Omega-3 but it won't improve your math skills. Not so much a scam, as very incomplete statistics, and avocates talking sh*t about their favorite results. The whole omega-3/fish/fish oil topic is awash in contradictory studies and advice, just begging for someone to put it all in order. Meta-analysis is a statistical sub-discipline that attempts to do just that*; it's pretty good at teasing a weak signal out of strong noise.** However, it's costly, time-consuming, and susceptible to bias if not done by the book. I suspect no one with deep enough pockets is willing to fund such a meta-analytic study on spec, with no guarantee of the outcome. Of course, that's one of the features of science, learning something new, even surprising. Or disappointing.
My thanks to Bird Dog for putting the two links adjacent, so I could swipe the opening paragraphs for a lecture I'm writing, RIGHT NOW. *Reminiscent of the optimistic youngster confronted with a pile of manure: "Hand me a shovel, there's bound to be a pony in there somewhere!" **Measles vaccination is a very strong signal. Fish oil, not so much. I'm not sure about your 8 orders of magnitude, but even 3 is enough to hide something pretty darn well. I know there's some speculation on whether Vitamin D levels are sufficient in most people who don't work outside. Doc recommended I start taking a supplement, and it did seem to help with the colds and flu that swept our office over the years. Only had one case of the crud in about five years now, and I think I caught that one from my son, lol.
Anecdotal, I know - but what the heck? I'll keep taking it because it seems to work... Re: 1,282 out of 1,762 New Votes That Magically Appeared This Weekend in Georgia Went to Stacey Abrams
Demonrats are perfecting their election fraud skills. IMHO we should end idiot schemes like early voting, vote by mail, and electronic voting because they are rife with opportunities to cheat. One would have thought that after 2000, that at least Florida would have tightened up their procedures. Republicans are FAR too trusting of Demonrats and it may kill them. mudbug: New Votes That Magically Appeared This Weekend in Georgia
No magic involved. Just counting votes like happens in every election. Victoria's Secret has just shot themselves well above the feet.
The Climate Change in Cali is due to the climate of idiocy expanding. I am happy to hear that women in the Infantry is working out so well. Isn't it time to require all women to sign up for the draft. And to no longer have the "option" to volunteer for infantry let them be assigned just as the men are now. Three cheers for equality, now lets make it real and not "token". Lets make it real, put all new female recruits into the infantry until it is 50:50 male female. All you feminists are behind me on this, right?
Nuclear Power: I'll believe they support this form of energy when they do the hard work necessary to remove the draconian government barriers that are embodied in the power plant siting and permitting processes.
Will Trump be the last Republican president? Yes if they do not get our voting problems and our illegal alien problems fixed. The U.S. is going the way of California. The effort to replace citizens with aliens is well underway and soon it will be irreversible. Once this happens there will be only two choices: 1. Acceptance of the NWO, or 2. Revolution. Neither option will be good for you and your children and grandchildren.
The left is stealing your country and we may have already passed the point of no return. Trump was a speed bump in their plans and they intend to eliminate that in the next two years. QUOTE: Lack of sunspots to bring record cold, warns NASA scientist The study is referring to record cold in the thermosphere, not the surface or lower atmosphere. It's going to be hotter than blazes down here but the thermosphere is going to have record cold. And if that's wrong we can blame it on global warming.
Arty: It's going to be hotter than blazes down here but the thermosphere is going to have record cold.
The temperature of the thermosphere runs from about 400°C to nearly 2000°C at solar maximum. That doesn't mean the Earth's oceans will suddenly boil away. The headline was misleading. "I am happy to hear that women in the Infantry is working out so well."
I'm sure the DoD wouldn't lie to us would they? You remember those two females that passed ranger school? The pentagon sent a two star general to grade them. If a general said they passed, who is going to contradict him. When a congress critter asked to see the training records he was told they had been destroyed. I was the administrative officer in a Navy unit and DoD has records retention rules. Typically DoD requires you to retain records for two years. If the records were destroyed then somebody was violating DoD regulations. We all know intuitively that 98% of women cannot shoulder a 68 lb pack and hump 12-20 miles. There are some jobs; infantry, fireman, Navy seal, that women just aren't built to do. Putting them into these positions will only endanger the rest of the team AND make the unit less effective. I cannot help but think that is the intent.
