Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

RE: On Veterans Day, an open letter to my children on appreciating American patriots
Not to be "that guy", but I can't help but notice the headline doesn't quite match the article - I can't find the word "patriot" in the article. One of my pet peeves (and I have a well-tended flock of them) is people who refer to our Founding Fathers as "patriots" - and here the writer actually refers to ancestors who fought in the Revolutionary War - when overthrowing your own government and splitting off from your own country would seem to be a strange definition of "patriotism". Unless you recognize that "patriotism" isn't blind allegiance to a flag or a government or a particular set of lines drawn on a map, but an allegiance to a particular set of ideals. Sometimes, it seems, patriotism may require defiance rather than obedience. Caravan Decides: It’s California Or Bust
That was a prudent decision, as the state government in California wants as many new voters as possible. The reception in Texas would not be as friendly. Away, then, with your self-esteem, your true self and your authenticity,.... We used to call it conceit.
Re: When liberals move to red states for jobs and lower taxes
Apparently people who move to escape poor economic conditions have little understanding of why they had to leave and why they want to move where they do. They tend to vote for the same policies that turned their old state into a hell hole. The bad thing is it takes time for the policies they voted for to start to impact the local economy so they have little reason to make the connection. The question is then will they realize what is going on or will they just try to move somewhere else? It's like the Mad Hatter's Tea Party: "I want a clean plate!"
Diversity and affirmative action (and the many variations to accomplish the same thing) are racism. The reasons given for these programs are worded to sound good but they are in fact no different from the KKK's brand of racism. It is essentially and simply a desire to put one race over another for personal or tribal gain. The KKK used violence to intimidate and eliminate resistance. We see the same thing from the left today? It is a national sickness that threatens the health of our constitutional Republic.
The Southern Poverty Law Center has now marked you as a hate group.
The SPLC has enough hate all by its obnoxious self to share with every man, woman and child on this earth and still have half left over for itself. Enough money, too, accumulated by spreading hate..
We agree, Jma. If I were alive in the 1950s, I would be on the side of freedom marchers.
Today, the majority of racial discussion is being pumped by race hustlers like Al Sharpton, Maxine Waters and the SPLC. Keeping the hate alive so they can shake us down for more money and power. re No big deal. They’re just stealing an election right in front of our faces”
So the cheating gets worse and worse with no risks or downsides for the perps. Where does it all end? Unfortunately not in a place where we would like to live. It makes you wonder if they even care what kind of a place in which their children will live. The wealthy supporting the overthrow think they will have enough money to keep them out of the ditch.
I’m not sure what is more depressing, how openly they are manufacturing vote, or how so few people seem to be pissed off about it.
You might remember when B-1 Bob Dornan lost an election to Loretta (faux Hispanic) Sanchez. Rep Dornan was able to prove that 16,000 or so illegal aliens voted in that election (thanks to a get out the illegal vote effort by La Raza) and he only lost the election by 8000 votes or so. Not surprisingly the liberal judge was not amused/impressed and Loretta (the not Hispanic) Sanchez kept her ill gotten seat in the house.
My point is that probably we will all discover that these contested elections in AZ and FL were stolen BUT the thief will get to keep their seat in congress. THIS is NOT democracy. Re: Macron & Nationalism is Treason.
Somebody should ask him what he thinks when he hears "La Marseillaise". Your comment made me think of that classic scene from Casablanca: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTsg9i6lvqU
Blind nationalism is a horrible thing and leads to disasters. Being a patriot who will stand up for your culture even in the face of tyranny is to be honored. "Nationalism is just one of the cards to be played like racism or sexism. Nationalism is just a word but some have misused it and others have effectively changed it's meaning. Now it is just another card to be played from Saul Alinsky's political card deck.
To the extent Macron's point was directed at the United States and/or Trump it is just a cheap shot. If his remarks are limited to continental Europe, he is not so far off base; the problem is over generalizing his point and applying it to the United States. The United States is not Europe; the understanding and interpretation of "Nationalism" is different. It's sneaky and deceitful to suggest that it is historically the same.
Self-Esteem Ayn Rand wrote (from Galt's Speech): No value is higher than self-esteem, but you’ve invested it in counterfeit securities—and now your morality has caught you in a trap where you are forced to protect your self-esteem by fighting for the creed of self-destruction. The grim joke is on you: that need of self-esteem, which you’re unable to explain or to define, belongs to my morality, not yours; it’s the objective token of my code, it is my proof within your own soul.
