Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

re Governments Will Have To “Nudge” People To Eat Less Meat Or We’re All Doomed
Between "Climate Change" and "The war on obesity", what they really want to do, but don't dare say it, is ration food. It's the ultimate power trip. Unfortunately for them, rationing is so unpopular with the little people that it is never going to happen. Feeble, how many articles and university studies have we seen kn why we should eat bugs instead of meat?
You are dead on as the eletes would love to have yummy diners while we peons ate worms and grubs. I’d like to nudge government to be less bossy, that required guillotines and machine-guns. And that’s just for nudging. For real change you need a revolution and an eight-year war (1775-1783).
We won't eat much less meat, not in the near future. They would do better to focus on the development of "clean" meat, made in the lab. My understanding is we've already done well on ground beef, but steaks still don't seem "real" to the consumer. That's fine. Go with that, and bring the price down. But they won't.
If they cared about solving the problem instead of virtue signalling, they'd have more success. Even if the problem of cows and methane and acreage and meat isn't that big a problem, just one that would make them feel better. From the UK:
'Meat tax' which would almost double price of sausages should be brought in to save lives, say health experts https://www.yahoo.com/news/apos-meat-tax-apos-almost-180000966.html "Woman who claimed Brett Kavanaugh raped her" Lied. See how easy it was for her to lie about the rape? No conscience, no care, it meant nothing to her at all. If she had succeeded in destroying hime she would have been estatic but that it didn't work simply made her sad that she failed. No doubt she would do it again, Hell, I'm she has probably done it before. Aren't we proud of the Democrats?
Regarding the Ukrainian's visit. I recognize much of that article is related to a vet getting some benefits from his service (which I hope we've all provided them from time to time - when I see sailors during Fleet Week, I buy them their coffee/rolls/drinks).
Yesterday I had lunch with a friend of mine from work. She was my vendor rep for 2 years, then moved on. She's Bulgarian. Eventually, 2 years ago, she returned to Sofia to be with her boyfriend who works for IBM. He proposed and they got an apartment together in a very nice part of Sofia. During lunch, she told me how she is returning to the US. As she explained, all her jobs in Bulgaria have been 'good' but they are 'a step backward' mainly because between the tech culture and the general culture, she doesn't see herself moving forward. As she put it to me, living there is like going to the US 20 years ago. Between the way she was treated, as a woman (and told 'what do you expect, this is how things are'), and as someone with substantial experience preparing clients for implementation (which required firms there to do things in a substantially different manner than they were used to), she found herself not so much unwelcome as much as an aberration. Her fiance is trying to determine if he will come to the US with her, he does have the opportunity. But as she told me, it may make the difference in their relationship whether he chooses to come or not. It is no surprise to me that people from those nations find ours to be so welcoming - even though many here think our nation is so horrible. I visited my first former Communist nation 2 years ago, and then visited Cuba shortly afterward. Anyone who thinks they had it 'good' or that they are on a par with the US is, simply, incorrect. The people there are just like us, in many ways. They are friendly, they are caring, they want what they want out of life. But their governments, over time, have not exactly been very caring enough to leave them alone. I can think of many places in the world where I'd like to spend extended periods of time. I can't think of any other place I'd want to live full time, though. “How can one know England who has only known England?”
Read “Where the West Ends” for an American’s visit to Ukraine.
From my YouTube viewings, many Americans and Europeans feel the gap between China and America similarly to how your unnamed respondent feels the gap between American and Bulgaria, though the former gap isn’t as wide as the latter.
I had a female Irish (born in London) physicist say some similar to me about the scientific work environment in Europe versus the United States. In 1980. America is the Europe that could have been, if Europe had not succumbed to national socialism, international socialism, and EU socialism.
And a majority of American voters (who voted for Hillary) want America to be Europe. A majority of immigrants apparently want America to be Mexico. If anyone at MF knows how to get in touch with Breitbart I would like to suggest a story they should research and publish. Please get someone to review the history of Schools of Journalism over the past 25 years. You will see patterns of acquiescence to the liberal "community organizers". The pedagogy of inquiry and the system of ethics which is the framework for great journalism was gradually removed from the curriculum and replaced with what we have today. The chronology of this trend is easy to timeline and needs to be made visible to the public.
I was in the Newhouse School at Syracuse. I can attest to this fact as far back as when I was there.
I had professors who pushed, and pushed hard, the 'liberal agenda' - such as it was back in the day. As a fairly conservative (though being in college, my parents viewed me as a radical activist liberal...social justice is always an item for college kids), I was frequently offended at the agenda the professors pushed. I even sat out of a production, and was told it would affect my grade, because I was angry with the liberal agenda they were pushing (plastering posters with GOP elephants with bombs in their trunks, while poor people starved and asked for food). With Reagan in office, the 'story' was pretty obvious, and the professors pushed it. This is a very old story, and it is one reason why Fox News exists. The bias has been growing for years, because the students coming out of the school are so heavily pushed in that direction. On another note, since I had a dual degree from Newhouse and Maxwell, a very good friend of mine was ultra conservative and in the Maxwell School with me. When he graduated, he got a job with a Representative from a southern state. A Democrat. Job availability being what it is, he took it. When we met years later, he'd shifted his views, saying "you do what you have to do when you're in politics." That's when I realized they were all, basically, whores. "Governments Will Have To 'Nudge' People To Eat Less Meat Or We’re All Doomed"
This is actually "fake news". "This" is or the meme is? Which? Because the meme certainly seems to be correct and I do hear it from government outlets. SO is what you are saying is that the larger story is true but this particular source is less than accurate.
"Fake news" because:
1. It's hyped-up news based on an unproven - and unprovable - alarmist premise: "Eat Less Meat Or We’re All Doomed". 2. It's "information" that has been chosen for us by someone else based on their idea of what is "important" according to their notions and nostrums. regarding "Why Aren't Democrats Walking ..."
