Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

"...in the last few months the FBI received over 1400 calls and emails saying Brett Kavanaugh raped them."
And every one of them had as much evidence as Christine Ford, but we're supposed to believe them all because "abused" women never lie, right? Now, let's be charitable. It's possible that the press decided to run with the "dangled his junk in my face" and "gang rape cruise" allegations because they were marginally more credible than the other 1400. So you can imagine how barking made the other 1400 sounded. "Dwarf Rapes Nun, Escapes in UFO."
Who says they were all women? You Misogynist, Homophobic, and likely Sexist Racist old white man pig.
So not only did he rape hundreds of women (and who knows, maybe a few men), but he was constantly drinking himself till blackout, and throwing ice! That guy must be super smart to graduate at the top of his class with those extracurricular activities!
Every day I am amazed anew, how the left thinks they are all about democracy, yet their actions point in an entirely different direction. Of course there is a reason to fear the mob rules democracy, that most of the left advocates. The mob controls all thought, all action. Nothing before the State.
So they have given us another ten years! This time they really mean it. Here in Denver, since the beginning of month, the weather guessers are 1 for 9. They have not been right on their single day forecast but once this month. They then can tell you with utmost certainty what the climate will be in ten years? Not only wrong all of the time, way wrong. There was a recent Saturday that was supposed to reach 87 F. The temperature barely reached 65 and only for about 10 minutes North of Denver.
QUOTE: “During four separate trips that started with the one in 1492, Columbus landed on various Caribbean islands that are now the Bahamas....” according to the Washington Post." Ummm..... good to see the WAPO is operating to their normal standard of trustworthy certitude. As AVI has been pointing out, the question is not whether it's culpable or inexplicable that Ford can't remember a number of key details while remembering others vividly. There are two points. First, "I had exactly one beer" is not the kind of thing most people take seriously as "seared" into memory decades later. Second, a legitimate reason for memories to be effaced doesn't change the fact that they are effaced, and therefore that some 35-year-old memories are unavoidably unreliable. It doesn't matter whose fault that is, as long as it's not the fault of the accused. What remains is that memories that old, especially if uncorroborated and even disputed by contemporaneous written records, are too unreliable to destroy a life over. There's not enough of the whole fabric of the incident left for the accused to be given a fair chance to construct a defense. It's a shifting fog.
1400 women willing and eager to lie about rape for political reasons. I would wager that not a one of them faces any cost for those false claims and not a single one of those reports will be compiled into the statistics of the accuracy of rape claims. So why not? Why not use a claim of rape to get your way?
I'd take this with a grain of salt. Is this person in a position to know this; is he a legitimate source? If this was an orchestrated campaign, there may not have been that many actual individuals. This kind of volume does seem self defeating. Some could even be false flags.
It's even possible that others called or emailed with equally outlandish claims about CBF. I hate to say this but it sounds 'fake but accurate' :) Certainly the absolute number is probably questionable but I can see large numbers of people thinking they would be 'helpful' by making accusations against Kavanaugh, like that woman who tweeted that she remembered 'everybody in school' talking about an attack that happened in July 'for several days' when the victim said she told no one. There were regular public calls for more 'victims' to step forward, and both CPL and Ronan Farrow got in the act along with several other stories that didn't hold up. Those are just the ones that made the papers. Of course the idea that these reports might be drowning out or blocking the FBI from investigating any really useful information probably didn't occur them.
I have to disagree. the most predictable scientific study published recently was the paper stating that hugs make you feel better.
https://www.cnn.com/2018/10/03/health/hugs-study-relationships-wellbeing-trnd/index.html The authoritarians have had control of the Supreme court since FDR and seeing that they are loosing that control added to the fact that Trump is president is driving them to mass hysteria. This is a once in a lifetime event...observe it well...crazy is the default position of loosing progressives/socialists.
Kanye West assailed on Saturday Night Liberals. Who woulda thunk it?
Pro-Kavanaugh women gender-traitors: One more (unnecessary) reason to detest and despise the NYT. I treat an accusation that I'm a traitor to my double-X chromosome with the same contempt I would extend to an accusation that I'm a traitor to my race. Few arguments are less likely to win me over. Remember "n*****-lover", a filthy epithet that I'm glad was long ago flushed down the sewer? Pfffffffffffui on all such habits of thought. You don't have to agree with me politically, but at least keep your honor clean.
Regarding sharks, friends who flew on aircraft or helicopters off the Pensacola area beaches would see crowds of people in the water, and 50-100 feet further out in the Gulf, crowds of sharks feeding. Neither group apparently knew the other was there. Sharks are a risk, but rip currents are far deadlier.
The sheer number of credible accusations should give pause to even the staunchest supporter!
The sheer number of credible accusations was zero. The sheer number of other accusations is enough to give me, not even a staunch supporter, pause. After pausing, I've resolved to not be a Democrat, at least until the revolutionary fever breaks.
Too true. People kept saying, "But why would she lie?" as if that were even a difficult question. But supposing it were, wouldn't it be harder to sort out "Why would one accusation among 1,400 be more credible, given that 1,399 are patently absurd?"--especially when the people telling you solemnly to "believe believe believe" don't seem all that able to tell the difference, either.
