Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

The Weather Channel piece is even worse than people think. The reporter is "bracing" into the wind, not against it like you normally would. Look at the grass in the planter just behind him and you'll see the wind blowing the same way he's leaning. Dan Rather faked it much better.
I just can’t believe anything I read, or see from the media. Makes me wonder how much of a lie it has always been. Do people even care about the truth anymore? Do they only care about their version of the stories that moves their sides political agenda forward?
I generally wait a few days before I decide if a story is true or as important as they say it is. In almost every case either or both of those factors fall apart.
I read recently that some large percentage of the population does not trust the news media. Whatever that percentage is is not enough because the fake news industry is not sufficiently embarrassed to put out this claptrap. On the other hand, it's very dangerous not to have a reasonably reliable source for news. The fake news industry is playing with fire but they may not be the only ones who get burned. I was about to comment what can you expect, given the Wx Channel is owned by NBC of the fake news triumvirate, but checked it's ownership and found it's now owned by something called Byron Allen's Entertainment Studios, a purveyor mostly of junk TV if it's Wikipedia entry is anywhere near accurate.
It's life imitating art, if you ever saw "All about Steve". In the movie, the crew's producer was crouched down below camera angle, pushing on the reporter's knees to make him rock, and getting soaked. I bet the W.C. crew knocked over those traffic barricades in the background, too, just to make it look more suitably apocalyptic.
It is not only the Christian, in China, that is getting the rough treatment. China has been cracking down on Christians for years. They have also set up ‘education’ camps for hundreds of thousands of Uighur and Kazakh citizens. Nothing before the State! Do you need a proof of God’s existence? Why must He be driven out of every totalitarian society? Coming to the USA, I have no doubt of this, if the left gains political control.
Socialism will always persecute Christians, the state can not bear to have people who have a higher calling than the state. Always happens, always will.
If they had any sense of history they’d realize that martyrdom and persecution only serves to strengthen Christianity, God bless them all! Socialism make the state god and often the leader conflates themselves as the face of god. And god can do no wrong.
And the State cannot countenance a competitor or doubt of its legitimacy. Christianity is a specific threat QUOTE: Christianity, as a late writer has pointed out in words well chosen, is the only system of socialism which commends it self as having a rational basis, and its founder the most practical teacher of it that the world has ever seen. " The aim of all socialism is the securing of equality in the social condition of mankind, and if equality is to be secured at all it will be secured only by changing the hearts of men, and never by setting to work, in the first instance, upon the conditions." But the present impulse of socialism is not Christian, but rather one willing to put an end to Christianity. And it is a system of machinery, like the kingdom of a tyrant, not of souls, like that of Christ. Now the Christian system did not rest on force at all. It was communistic, but not socialistic, as the word is properly used; for its very essence was the freedom of the individual will. Socialism and Legislation, Westminster Review, January, 1886. --The Ethics of Democracy by F.J. Stimson. Scribner’s Magazine (1887) Socialism/communism is a Christian heresy. Hence its religious nature.
90 mph, phoo. We had sustained winds of 130 here last year, when we stayed for the eye of Harvey. We lost a lot of trees, but the house was fine; in fact, houses built to modern code did fine all over the county. Very few metal roofs took on water except for a few directly on the coast. We're a mile or so in.
As a guy from Guam remarked before Katrina, "Why are the houses made out of wood? In Guam, only the poor people live in wooden houses"
Guam gets real storms, that sit over the island for days. Most houses in Guam are built of cinder blocks that won't blow away in the storms. One of my friends grew up in Guam, he remembers storms so bad the water was actually seeping through the mortar seams of the cinder blocks, being blown by the wind.
It’s not so much that ‘most transgender teens attempt suicide’ - it’s that many, many suicidal teenagers decide that they’re transgender.
Socially transitioning allows a person to symbolically kill themselves - the ‘old you’ is dead and gone and you have a new name, new wardrobe, new haircut, and a brand new “stunning and brave” transgender identity. It’s another form of parasuicidal behavior, self-harming, only one that society currently celebrates. This particular Dalai Lama has turned out to be an interesting cat, hasn't he? Not according to script. Of course, when you're the DL, you write your own script, and who can tell you you're wrong, eh?
