We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Shut off all news about her when the first report featured her saying that the highlight of her life was singing for The Zero, the first African American president. Hey, he was half white and, if what he says about his father is true, 2/3 of that geneology is Arab, not Black as she wishes.
Love Aretha Franklin, love her rendition of the song, but had to turn it off when I saw the blonde in the audience doing the fake exuberance thing. By the way, who is that? And the intro by the ditz who tells us about all the guys she was with and broke up with. Sheesh. You couldn't have found a better Aretha video to post as a tribute?
Yes, the too many shots to the audience (except for the thrilled honoree, Carole King) were a distraction. But, by the time Aretha tossed her coat off, her singing had taken me up to that level beyond just watching. My whole being felt it. What a gift she gave to all of us no matter who we are. Thank you, Aretha.
