Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Re Heaven:
It is pretty obvious from Christian tradition and the Bible. The Earth will be healed and returned to the condition of Eden, and we, in our resurrected, corporeal bodies, will live with one another in peace and plenty. The lion will lie down with the lamb. We will not be spirits in Heaven with the angels and Trinity. So you believe all dead people are in limbo? There is no Biblical support for that. In fact, Jesus told the thief while on the cross, "Today, you will be with me in Paradise."
I'm pretty sure it will be something like NASCAR race day with Cracker Barrel for dinner.
Pretty sure the Bible covers this "limbo" in 1 Thess 4:14 and 1 Cor 15:18. Believe what you want. I'm just looking forward to having my glorified body and a thick wavy head of hair.
Aside from stressing that what we do now matters in eternity, I'm not sure God has encouraged to think we do or should have a lot of specific information about exactly what lies in store for us after death, any more than a fetus has a clear idea what lies in store for him outside the womb.
Someone mentioned to me that the redacted FISA application was part of the Saturday night document dump, so I went looking for press on it. Strangely, none of the MSM articles had anything to say about what the document revealed, it was all ho-hum. I finally found some analysis on Powerline and Althouse. The famous footnote that supposedly revealed the fact that Clinton paid for the Steele Dossier does no such thing. The closest it gets is to say that the FBI speculates that the source intended to discredit Trump, a concern that is then dropped like a hot potato and never addressed again. The press reports are treated as if they were a source, without mentioning that they were sourced by the same source. There is apparently zero information added to the successive warrant applications to bolster the case as time goes on. Really sloppy.
If that f*cking bastard gets elected... we all hang from nooses!
Gonna need a lot of rope. Probably the best coverage you can find on Russia, Russia, Russia, is at the conservative tree house/ the last refuge website.
I wouldn't say the MSNBC hosts were expressing a worry that capitalism was working. One asked whether Ds were making a mistake bashing capitalism at a time when the economy was doing so well that Americans obviously were drawing very favorable conclusions about capitalism. Warren responded that she believes in markets but believes they have to have "rules" so that, basically, there aren't big winners and losers, whatever that's supposed to mean.
Capitalism does mean winners and relative losers, even if the losers are better off than they'd have been under socialism. If it bothers us that some people don't do as well as others, we're always free to give them some of our own plenty. I don't know why that concept is so hard for socialists, except that obviously it's more convenient if other people take care of that unpleasant task. Warren also expressed the view that job numbers were up only because lots of people were working 3 or 4 minimum-wage jobs, an assertion for which she offered no evidence. Even if it were true, it doesn't sound like bad news to me. It sure beats not being able to find extra minimum-wage work. A career bureaucrat (which is almost all of our political class) understands only that rules are important, and the more rules you can make the more prestige you can gather to yourself.
The results coming from that rule-making aren't anywhere near as important as the making of the rules themselves. Trump slicking the rules and regulations and allowing the country to prosper is just about the worst possible scenario for them. I like slicking. Nice ring to it, like hitting, offing, whacking, clipping, popping, burning, icing, doing a piece of work.... (Maybe not that last one.)
Most politicians are where they are as the result of the Peter Principle. Trump's success exposes their inability to govern and worse their complicity in making it all worse for decades. What else would any arrogant incompetent politician do but shoot the messenger.
Trump's pretty much destroyed their self-image as being capable and competent. The bad thing is that we never realized just how incompetent they were, until Obama took things to a new, um... depth.
Texan99: Someone mentioned to me that the redacted FISA application was part of the Saturday night document dump, so I went looking for press on it.
Not sure why you say that. Most major media published the document, summaries, and analysis. Texas99: The famous footnote that supposedly revealed the fact that Clinton paid for the Steele Dossier does no such thing. The FISA application noted that the dossier was created as part of opposition research. That is sufficient to properly color the information. Keep in mind that a warrant only requires probable cause. Many investigations never lead to charges, which requires a higher standard of proof. The dossier was never verified although the FBI and the DOJ swore before the FISC that it was.

An interesting theory that the FISA warrant (which the FISA Court has just refused to Senator Goodlatte?) was given to and immediately leaked from the crooked Senate Intelligence Committee: https://theconservativetreehouse.com/2018/07/23/indicted-senate-staffer-james-wolfe-leaked-a-2017-copy-of-full-fisa-warrant-against-carter-page-to-reporter-ali-watkins/ This would explain why Senator Goodlatte wants to compare different "versions" of the first FISA application: https://theconservativetreehouse.com/2018/07/22/oh-my-this-is-either-a-sting-or-the-most-corrupt-u-s-dept-of-justice-in-history/ Dem senator Warner conspiring with or warning ("warnering"?) the Steel Dossier author?
