Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Of course the UK paper ignored the Muslim gang's Islamic ties. To admit the truth is to ignore the PC inclusion myth that paints brown people as morally better than whites.
If the limousine liberals abandoned Obama, he would be in serious trouble. But I was telling my wife a week or so ago, that when the poor decide to seize the mansions they are being told to despise, liberals in those mansions will get what they have deserved. If only the rest of us wouldn't suffer when the moronic liberals do. The larger problem is that statists like Obama don't want us to have freedom to own what we want to own (that gun looks too scary for a civilian to own it). re Yet another bakery outrage
I would think the fired employees would have grounds for suing for wrongful termination. "Entitled students demand #RegradeSAT"
As I read the story it said that this SAT was graded on a curve kind of implying that previous SATs were not. For what it's worth grading on a curve does indeed punish the better students and is discriminatory and results in inaccuracies. Often colleges and other institutions will "adjust" test scores based on none test data such as race or gender, etc. I think there is probably more to this story and it is intentionally being withheld from us. Gallup...1% concerned with Russia, wow, a real winner for the DNC. Hillary's 30,000 emails appear to be in possession of the Chinese...is there anything they won't pilfer by hook or by crook? Trump ready to tariff $500,000 billion in Chinese goods is looking good...more auto parts to manufacture in Canada, US, and Mexico rather than importing the parts from China.
Siege of Vienna: Why Poland Won’t Submit to Muslim Colonization
On the Field of Glory: An Historical Novel of the Time of King John Sobieski by the Polish author Henryk Sienkiewicz, winner of the 1905 Nobel Prize for Literature. From Wikipedia: On the Field of Glory: QUOTE: On the Field of Glory (Polish: Na Polu Chwały) is a historical novel by the Polish author Henryk Sienkiewicz, published in 1906. The novel tells a story of a fictional young impoverished Polish nobleman and his love for a young aristocratic woman. The story is set during the reign of King John III Sobieski up to the eve of the Battle of Vienna. There is a very nice restaurant with a view of Vienna, on the hill from which Sobieski led his charge that broke the siege. There's also a church up there named after him.
Lots of Polish visitors. I got great pics from that site. You get a really good understanding of what was going on - complete layout of the battle plan and the siege. The cavalry charge took place over what are now vineyards (which my wife and sisters took a hike down through, you can taste wine and hang out in hammocks along the way). Funny there are vineyards so close to such a major city. IIRC, the siege wasn't going so well for the Muslims (certainly wasn't going well for the Viennese), and while they were getting closer to entering the city it had taken far longer than they'd expected. The Ottoman army was comprised of soldiers they'd taken from conquered nations, for the most part, and the arrival of the relief army disheartened them. People also tend to forget that Vienna was besieged twice by the Ottomans, once in 1529 and again in 1683. The second one was the one which finally turned the tide of the Muslim advance. Still, it's fun to go up the hill and visit the site if you're ever there and have the chance. The road up was a make-work project during the Depression. Not the best way to build a road (terribly inefficient and wasteful), but it kept people working, so there's that... Two women fired by bakery: It ain't "Portland", it's "Portlandia", the crazed mental condition found all over Portland.
Mueller vs. Russkis: " With no corporate entities in the mix, it is a virtual certainty that none of these Russian nationals is going to show up to defend." Pooty-Poot oughta send those twelve over here (with lawyers) and REALLY mess with Mueller. By burning leftovers, Burberry — which takes a hard line on counterfeiting and copyright, resulting in a recent lawsuit against Target over a check print — is allegedly trying to prevent its wares from being discounted and sold to the “wrong people.”
Allegedly? That's exactly why they did it. Burberry doesn't sell clothes or cosmetics, they sell their brand. Without their brand those products wouldn't be valued more than the same clothes and cosmetics sold at Walmart or Target. Giving the leftovers to charity or to be sold at discount would dilute their brand. The real story here is: WTF, aol.com is still around? "Impact outweighs intent" works both ways.
What a dumbass (that came up with that one). I have 4 children all cared for from birth onwards courtesy of the NHS and a mother suffering with ALZ who is currently receiving excellent NHS care. I have also lived in America and have many relatives there, both systems have their strengths and faults.
The point isn't to simply disparage NHS are to compare one person's impressions of either system to another person's. The point is that the kinds of problems being described are endemic. With government run programs "more is less". It costs a lot more and the citizens get a lot less for their money. Yes, we all have pride in our country/tribe and feel attacked when our countries health care is denigrated. It makes us reflexively defend it and often leads to arguments that go well astray of the original point.
The problem is still that government run health care becomes like the VA in the U.S. and fails to serve the customer while costing more and more every year. The purpose of pointing out their failures isn't to anger you but rather to inform, mostly the young and impressionable, that socialism is bad and doesn't work as advertised and worst of all is very difficult to escape once it is established. I am old enough and have various health problems that I need good health care. If I lived under a socialized system I would probably still be waiting for my last operation or worse denied it because of my age. But because I am in a market based or capitalist based health care system if I do not get service from one provider I simply go to another. I have in fact done this, mostly because I have moved 5 times in the last 12 years, but I do it and it is easy. I walk into the clinic and they either see me or I find someone else who will. I love capitalism! GoneWithTheWind: easy. I walk into the clinic and they either see me or I find someone else who will
So you pay out of pocket for all your medical care? Is that concept foreign to you kiddiez?
Perhaps y'all could bone up on private health insurance. I have in the past when my insurance wasn't accepted by the clinic.
But you seem to have missed the point and in missing the point you ended up in a cul de sac. How does my payment method change anything? GoneWithTheWind: How does my payment method change anything?
Most any clinic will see a person if they can pay. However, most people rely on insurance, meaning the insurance company can decide whether to work with a particular clinic or doctor, typically a network with a prearranged relationship to the insurance company. In other words, unless you are private pay, the person usually must stay in network. You can't just go wherever you want.

There is some truth to what you say. In my city I can go to half a dozen clinics and to the major hospital. I have choices. I have in the past gone to the clinic/doctor of my choice and paid the costs myself and submitted my claims to the insurance company. In fact by paying cash I received a 25% discount. I even had an operation where I paid cash and later submitted my claims to the insurance company. Frustrating of course that the various groups don't get along. BUT, I can indeed go where ever I want. You can too. It is called freedom. I don't have to go to the VA (even though I am eligible). I don't have to go where my insurance wants me to go.

QUOTE: SAVED FROM SOCIALISM: U.S. Saves Baby Oliver After U.K. Doctors Said His Heart Couldn’t Be Fixed Cardiac fibroma is a very rare condition, and there were no U.K. surgeons who could perform the risky procedure. A heart transplant was offered, so it wasn't a question of money. Nor did capitalism save Oliver. There was never anything stopping Oliver's family from using their own funds. In the end, the NHS paid for the procedure. They also sent a surgeon along to learn the new procedure. |
