Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Tuesday, June 26. 2018If it turns out that Trump really is a Russian agent...I think Trump admired Putin only for being another alpha male who puts his country's interests first. Trump relates to alpha guys, so that's his preference. He does not care for weasley boys like Justin, and that's his choice. Not many alphas in the press corps, so there's that too. Purely by accident, I watched about 20 minutes of Trump's rally in South Carolina last night. With no notes and no prompter, the guy was a brilliant and highly amusing speaker, interacting with his audience, spewing stats and numbers constantly, and light-heartedly teasing about his opposition. All upbeat and good fun. He was not my choice, but my choices would have lost to Hillary. As a communicator, Trump makes Reagan and Obama seem like amateurs - and he just wings it. His job seems recreational to him. As an uncouth outsider, naturally the establishment hates him. That's why he was elected. If it turns out that Trump really is a Russian agent, I'll gladly change my mind about the whole Trump thing. However, it appears that many US government agencies were working hard to prevent Trump a year before the election, and to undermine him afterwards. If true, it would be the biggest political scandal in US history. Seven Mysterious Preludes of the FBI's Trump-Russia Probe Sure looks like a CIA/FBI string to me. Who arranged that?

That link goes to RealClear Investigations, a sub-series of RealClar politics, to a really damning article by a Lee Smith, whom I have never encountered, but whose bio is impressive: https://www.hudson.org/experts/238-lee-smith. Far as I know, the Hudson Institute is one of the more even handed, but admittedly conservative think tanks.
" if true, it would be.. "
Isn't it as clear as it can be now, that it is true. DOJ, FBI, State Dept, and the White House, CIA, DNI, NSA.. and 100's of Government workers in DC. Add in a media that completely tried to manage all of it like a propagandist dream... Good take on the speech last night. It was rambling and authentic... and very likely triggered the crap out of any political types. No politician, much less a elected President talks like that... off script. Nope, never. I see it as a plus, but I can see how critics and haters are appalled. The President mentioned Johnny Carson last night. Trump reminded me of Carson. Not all of his jokes work.. in fact, the more that flop, the better b/c Trump, as Carson did, used the dips to poke fun and laugh along. He's one of us. Whether it's a act or not, he sells it, and he is consistent in delivery that I think it is genuine. He's fights. I like that. It is easily the most entertaining Presidency of my 54 years on this planet.
And the fact he enrages all the 'right' people makes it even better. If it turns out that Trump really is a Russian agent...
. . . WTF does that make 0bama? . . . WTF does that make 0bama?
A malignant fop wrapped in a charade, for starters. Obama was always a puppet, a Manchurian candidate. The real question is who pulled his strings.
The bookends of my life; Give 'em Hell Harry and What the Hell Donny. It's been an interesting ride.
The News Junkie: I think Trump admired Putin only for being another alpha male who puts his country's interests first. Trump relates to alpha guys, so that's his preference. He does not care for weasley boys like Justin, and that's his choice.
Canada is an established democratic country, a long time friend and ally of the United States, having fought with the U.S. in two world wars, and most recently in Afghanistan in response to the first and only invocation of the NATO treaty. Putin runs Russia as an authoritarian kleptocracy. Canada has a larger GDP, even though it has a quarter of Russia's population. For some reason, Trump is tilting away from long time democratic and economically powerful allies in favor of autocrats of economically weak countries. Because he is a Russian agent!
More likely, because Justin is a putz and because Old Europe is becoming an irrelevant mess. BD: Old Europe is becoming an irrelevant mess.
The E.U. has an annual GDP of $17 trillion, or about 20% of global GDP, growing about 3% in 2017. They are hardly irrelevant. I must've missed your concern when Obama was pissing all over Great Britain while buddying up to Castro and sending pallets of cash to Iran.
Zack, aren't Italy, Austria, Poland, Britain, and Hungary democratic? Germany not so much until recently in Bavaria. The rest of Europe is not democratic; it is ruled by unelected and not-removable bureaucrats. The EU is not a democracy. It has turned into a totalitarian bureaucratic dictatorship.
jaybird: aren't Italy, Austria, Poland, Britain, and Hungary democratic?
Yes. jaybird: Germany not so much until recently in Bavaria. West Germany has been a federal republic with strong democratic institutions since WWII, and all of Germany has been democratic since unification. jaybird: The rest of Europe is not democratic; it is ruled by unelected and not-removable bureaucrats. Not sure where you get your information, but France, Spain, Sweden, Netherlands, Ireland, Denmark, Portugal, Finland, and Belgium are all democracies. jaybird: It has turned into a totalitarian bureaucratic dictatorship. The E.U. is too weak to constitute a totalitarian regime. For instance, Britain is leaving the E.U. through democratic means. I was schooled in international relations and economics when Suslov was still the architect of all things totalitarian. He died and that strict regime died, too. Putin might have played the game while the old USSR still reigned, but it was not his heart.
The big surprise might be that Xi, Putin and Trump have been working on the Big Peace for many a month as armed conflict no longer makes sense. Play video games if you want to serve your ultra-neocon. It's much more logical to compromise into a world where all the $$$ spent on arms, drugs, human trafficking and organ theft is directed to appreciating cultures that have survived for centuries beyond our former expectations. " His job seems recreational to him.'
I have exactly the same impression. He has all the money and fame he could ever want. He is having fun. Trump (G7 summit): NATO is as bad as NAFTA... It’s much too costly for the U.S.
Trump (today): Russia continues to say they had nothing to do with Meddling in our Election! - |
