We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Kareem Abdul Jabar and Warren Beatty are not exactly geniuses. Their "success" with women was more related to that fact that there are female fans for that kind of fame that consider it a feather in their cap to sleep with these men. These is very different from what Mr Peterson is implying. A significant difference. If there weren't literally tens of thousands of women who wanted to sleep with rock stars just so they could elevate themselves in their own eyes and the eyes of their friends these men, who would still have all the same attributes would have no better success with women than anyone of similar age and status and who wasn't famous.
Women never change. I was somewhat famous in my younger years as researcher in a STEM field. At conferences I would have young women knocking at my hotel door in the evening after hours. As a joke my wife would answer when she accompanied me. We still got offered. My goodness youth. It's what keeps us going as a species I guess.
Good old material reductionism, base level thought on humanity, this time courtesy of the ostensible right.
In other words, Darwin agrees that “most women sell sex; most of them just don’t take cash.” (-Mokokoma Mokhonoana). And as someone else said, with that established all we're doing is haggling price.
Tell me, when did it become so fashionable to reduce mankind down to such primitive urges? When did it become so fashionable for traditional, conservative, even religious types to reduce mankind down to Darwinist animals?
Is this a fad? Is mind dead? Will there be a nice cleansing lectionary tomorrow?
At the risk of starting a posting argument with Meh. I have to ask. Read his post above and tell me is it simply a bunch of multi-syllable words strung together in search of a meaning or does it make sense to you? Sometimes one sentence seems to make some sense but the entire paragraph leaves me wondering what I just read. Is it just me?
It's obvious that the conned boomer rightist brigade has by now accepted man as a smart monkey. He's accepted Darwinist biological determinism, existential materialism, lowest common denominator partisan structuralism with all the cultural and social signals thereof, and his own rightism as an all but openly admitted lifestyle choice based on simple contrast between himself and a single, central political target.
Rightism is no longer an intellectual movement. It's not an effective cultural or societal stake in the ground, and it's not even a reliable or accurate portrayal as itself. How could it be when it's this hapless and feckless? Your comment could be rightism, the instinctive bristling at something that may challenge comfortable conventions and pursuits. In this context the broader rightist pursuit is to reduce man to an animal, allow him his pleasurable materialism and selfish pursuits as God intended, signal them against the only tension or contrast there is - which is that constructed leftism - and carry on, interspersing a little cornpone or churchiness or inside winks and nods as prerequisite markers.
Into this drops Peterson as a redefining standard. He's a smart, useful, insightful guy but since he's propped up by the right for the purposes above, he's also its tacit admission of failure and is as much indicative of its own sloth, passivity, signalling, and identitarian reactionism as he is a bellwether of some intellectual revival the right has yet to come to - of real Reactionary principle, the core of which sees man far more aligned with the traditionalism of a few hundred years ago then today's simple-minded lifestyle-signalling cartoon thereof.
How is this? Only about a third of Peterson's work addresses the broader problem specifically and head-on as such - declining civilization, society, and intellect to the point of failure - and none of it actually calls it out as such. That's not what he does and it's not what he is. He deals in simpler concepts and as much prods the listener to think as he'd ever presume to tell him what to think. Likewise the clip above includes only a few minutes of that biological determinism the right has substituted for meaning. The right is too lazy to bother with meaning any longer.
Yet Peterson is routinely trotted out where rightists haven't already grasped who they think they are, which in a nutshell is all but wholly codependent with the left: they act and the rightist instinctively reacts always in that familiar 180 degree opposition. Peterson is a beacon for their lost ships in the sea and darkness they made.
For the same reasons Peterson is also not a savior. He's not going to bring the lost right to their little instinctive, anti-leftist, knee-jerk promised land and he's not revealing anything they shouldn't already know and practice. I wonder if the exasperation he manifests comes from this realization: How many times do I have to point this out, he seems to be saying.
If Peterson is the way back through decades of lazy losing, we're in real trouble. Likewise if standard small-r reactionary boomer rightism is a valid pursuit, we're already done. When man is a simple material machine whose biological instincts and smallest social principles show him to be - many times to his own self-edified satisfaction - a pre-determined monkey without first the sense and then the literal drive to be a mindful intellect, then what Peterson says actually makes no difference. If we don't already know it he's not telling us anything we can use, or better said, anything we have the intellect and will to recreate as what should have been our structure for hundreds of years.
Today the right reacts, typically late to the party and badly. What the right should have done is preserve its birthright, culturally, socially, intellectually, and spiritually. Instead it became a slightly different flavor of the very thing it's railing against, which probably explains why it reacts so loudly and badly, with a Peterson as its rally cry.
"It's obvious that the conned boomer rightist brigade has by now accepted man as a smart monkey..."
Just so you know I'm copying all this and sending it to NSA. I am sure it is a code and has hidden meanings. Perhaps I could also put this to rap music and make a record. It is strange and yet familiar. I know each word, I can see that it appears to be sentences. But I can't figure out what it means...
Maybe if I hold it up to the light... No! that doesn't help. Maybe if I write each first letter of each sentence there is a word or words that make sense. Nope! That makes it even less understandable (which is saying something). Wait! Wait! I got it! Each consecutive word is the first word from each paragraph in the Encyclopedia Britannica!!!
Did I get it right? Is there a prize or something for figuring it out?
