Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

"Why Roseanne Barr Is a Thought Criminal but Not Bill Maher..."
Strangely, when I first heard of Barr's TV demise as a result of her tweet, the first person I thought of was the ever-smug, ever-insulting, foul-mouthed Maher. Double standards? Perish the thought! (Maher does have one quality though: he's about the only "cutting edge" entertainer who openly and routinely takes on Islam.) QUOTE: Why Roseanne Barr Is a Thought Criminal but Not Bill Maher... The difference lies in Valerie Jarrett’s African ancestry. It’s almost as if outraged liberals privately think blacks resemble monkeys. No, it's because comparing blacks to apes has been a racist attack for generations. As for Bill Maher, he's no longer on network television, and he was making a point about Trump's baseless claims about Obama's birthplace. You will note that rarely does a comparison to dogs create the same reaction. Is comparing Trump to apes OK? Why the different treatment? The only answer would be racism or qhat is commonly called reverse racism.
OneGuy: Is comparing Trump to apes OK? Why the different treatment?
Asked and answered. While comparing Trump to an ape may be bad taste, it is not patently racist. It's the same reason you shouldn't use the n-word, even though it is just a couple of syllables. There's a history involved. Nice double standard, kiddiez.

The Clattering Site Robot(s) has succeeded in baiting another normal human. Funny, the contraption(s) had to have what it(s) thinks (?) is a slam dunk issue handed to its decrepit, code-rotted CPU in order to do it.
This is a textbook example of how the right capitulates. If a non-sentient things(s) has a faulty, half-an-issue morality module, does it dream of electric virtue? Apparently.

There's a history involved.
Insults involving reference to apes have never been exclusively directed at blacks. Edwin Stanton infamously called Abraham Lincoln 'the original gorilla'. Either insults are not legitimate debate tactics or they are. You're attempts at establishing a hierarchy of outrage are pretty transparently a way to excuse the ones you agree with as inconsequential.

Ask a clattering race robot is it can elaborate on the great evil of someone saying something that someone else can interpret as offensive to yet someone else. That's three orders of nonsense even before you get to the point where an adult says, so the hell what?
America. The thoroughly offensive moral cesspool in which every clattering race robot projects a morality it itself can't justify, much less ascribe, and much, much less point to the harm of, yet to hear them clatter on it's the sole remaining ethic on earth. But you know, in America you just have to express umbrage, especially if it defends a complete stranger - and apparent subversive in the top office - from offense. Because we're so robotically pure and chaste. In America. It's pharisaical posing bullshit through and through.

Christopher B: Either insults are not legitimate debate tactics or they are.
It's doubtful if Barr's comments could be considered "debate". In any case, there are historical reasons why comparing blacks to apes is considered racist. You can pretend those reasons don't exist, but that doesn't constitute a valid argument.

^ Someone ask the thing who's "arguing".
Now, if you want to argue a real point, argue against the SJW's morally-empty clinical projection and moral splitting on its great UniIssue. Argue against its ersatz church of IDing a stranger by some unwritten but inescapable, universal, and entirely unexamined social code that assumes One Great Guilt and from it proceeds straight to excommunication not just from its corrupt synagogue, but from humanity. Throw Rosanne under society's great progressive train for she hath sinned with her tongue, she hath, a that sin is of the devil. Ask the clattering race robot(s) out there if their tiny hunks of silicon can grasp that concept, much less its genesis and infinitely much less than that, it's moral abhorrence.

OK. I get it now. Anything and everything a white person says is or could be racist depending on if the person is offended or not. But nothing anyone says to a white person is racist. Did I get that right?

Not at all. However, calling someone a chink or a jigaboo would be considered racist due to the history of those terms.

Back in the eighties, Pan Am (or was it TWA) flew non-stop from Dhahran, Saudi Arabia to New York's JFK airport. The airplane was a Boeing 747 B-400. Total transit time: 21 hours. I think that one has Singapore Airlines' "longest flight" beat.
We had to fly against the jet stream so that added about 4 hours... I remember it like it was yesterday. Our family took that route once. And only once. My Mom threatened to divorce my Dad if he ever booked us on that flight again. It was torturous! You had it easy Steve. In the '50s I flew Super Connies 3-4 stops Dhahran to Charleston in a mere 80-90 hours (50-60 hours flying time). Dhahran-Tripoli-Madrid-Azores-Bermuda (if the headwinds were high)-Charleston. We took a 24 hr. layover in Madrid to give the passengers a break. Our loads were about half military (U.S. and Saudi) and half civilians, i.e. military families, gov't employees and famillies, DOD teachers, U.S. citizens stranded overseas and such.
re long flights:
Don't know if you know of this or not Bill, it must have been one heck of an adventure. A Pan Am Clipper was trapped in the southwest Pacific by the onset of WWII. The crew flew her home buy going west!!: QUOTE: Stranded. Six days from its home port of San Francisco, a luxurious Boeing 314 flying boat, the Pacific Clipper, was preparing to alight in Auckland, New Zealand, as part of the airline’s transpacific service when the crew of ten learned of the Japanese attack on the U.S. fleet at Pearl Harbor on the morning of December 7, 1941. All across the Pacific, Pan Am facilities came under assault: Wake Island, where the Martin M-130 Philippine Clipper returned just in time to pick up the Pan Am staff and escape although riddled with bullet holes; Manila, which had come under direct air attack; Hong Kong, where a Sikorsky S-42B was destroyed at its dock; and, of course, Pearl Harbor. Where to go? Pan Am Captain Robert Ford was faced with a dilemma. After a week in the U.S. Embassy Ford finally received word from Pan Am headquarters that they were to return to the U.S. by flying westward. They were on their own for gasoline and supplies and had to fly over land and water with which none of the crew was familiar. With orders in hand, Captain Ford took off on December 16th, unsure of his fate, backtracked to Noumea, New Caledonia, to pick up the Pan Am staff left there and headed west for Australia. feeb here, though not mentioned in this article, I recall reading that at one point, in Africa I think, they had to pass the hat among the passengers to buy gas for the plane. When they finally requested landing permission at La Guardia the tower was flabbergasted to hear them identify themselves as Pan Am flight blah blah blah, from Auckland to San Francisco. https://airandspace.si.edu/stories/editorial/december-7-1941-and-first-around-world-commercial-flight Just friends: interestingly one truly asexual relationship in my life is my ex wife. QUOTE: Diversity sensitivity training doesn't work It's important to start with the facts before drawing conclusions. QUOTE: You know what happened when a pair of black men decided that they had a right to use the restroom in a Philadelphia Starbucks without having purchased anything. That is incorrect. While one of the men asked to use the bathroom, he didn't insist. They were waiting for someone for a business meeting, and had only been there for a few minutes, when the manager called the police. QUOTE: It applies equally to everyone. People wait all the time at Starbucks for other people to show up before ordering. These men were singled out, and spent hours in jail. The person they were waiting for arrived as they were being arrested, and it is largely because video of the arrest was posted to social media that the story came to the public mind. In the olden days, it would have just been another day in America. QUOTE: If you feel that by buying coffee at Starbucks you are supporting a political cause, will that make you more or less likely to do so? Racial justice shouldn't still be a left-right issue in the 21st century. QUOTE: Zzzz: It's important to start with the facts before drawing conclusions. That is correct. Maybe you kiddiez should try it sometime. But remember, the Clattering Site Robot(s) will consult its defective morality module(s) to deem to impart upon you, normal human, what constitutes, as it(s) postmodernistically terms it, justice.
This is its(s) great public service to folks who know vastly more than it(s) does but frequently forget to remember that they do. Can't argue with a circuit card(s)... "Diversity sensitivity training"
It doesn't work because it has become race shaming and anti-white. It requires the participants to deny what their eyes can see and their ears can hear. In America there is indeed rampant racism black on white racism. If you are black it is 90% likely that violent crime against you will come from blacks and 8% from Hispanics. If you are white it is 80% likely that a violent crime against you will be committed by a black person and 8% likely by a Hispanic. The purpose of Diversity sensitivity training is to continue to allow minorities to extort companies and individuals for money and privilege. To continue the myth that blacks suffer racism under a majority white population. And of course as a means for black racists to punish whites without consequences. Anon: If you are white it is 80% likely that a violent crime against you will be committed by a black person and 8% likely by a Hispanic.
That is incorrect. QUOTE: • half (51%) of violent victimizations were intraracial, that is both victims and offenders were the same race or both were of Hispanic origin. • In the majority of violent victimizations, white victims' offenders were white (57%) and black victims' offenders were black (63%). Bureau of Justice Statistics You conflated a lot of things to hide the truth. For example:
"half (51%) of violent victimizations were intraracial, that is both victims and offenders were the same race". This tells us almost nothing because you lumped them all together. You did that because it hides the truth. " In the majority of violent victimizations, white victims' offenders were white (57%)" Not accurate. But let's use those numbers. 43% of white victims were than attacked by blacks. But while whites make up 70% of the population blacks only make up about 14% and most black criminals are male so what we have is 7% of the black population committing 43% of the attacks on whites. Statistically this changes everything. It equates to a very large percentage of attacks on whites being committed by blacks. Another example is white rape of black women is so rare it almost doesn't exist. However black rape of white women is so common that it is an epidemic where there are predominantly blacks raping white women. If you were to read the newspapers or watch the cable or alphabet news stations you would never know this. Why? Is it intentionally being kept secret? Anon: You conflated a lot of things to hide the truth.
Huh? We directly quoted the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics. Zachriel: In the majority of violent victimizations, white victims' offenders were white (57%) Anon: Not accurate. Handwaving. It directly contradicts your claim that "If you are white it is 80% likely that a violent crime against you will be committed by a black person and 8% likely by a Hispanic." Anon: However black rape of white women is so common that it is an epidemic where there are predominantly blacks raping white women. In 88% of forcible rapes, the victim and offender were of the same race. I got my college tuition free as a perk of my father's job. It's a pretty good way to keep excellent employees when you don't have a lot of freedom to hike salaries. The employees like it and are more likely to stay, and it has its greatest effect on employees whose kids' education is important, which are exactly the ones many employers would most like to retain.
Re: Tommy Robinson
"Apparently only the right care about the blatant suppression of free speech and normal criminal process that characterize the Robinson case." Exactly! In case no one has noticed the left has moved left of Russia and Maduro. The left is fully socialist/communist on the verge of becoming repressive to tighten their grip on power in the West. England is toast. Most of Western Europe is toast. We are next. This coming election will see more openly communist/socialist politicians elected in the U.S. than ever in our history. You are watching the rehearsal for the next revolution. You may not be interested in war, but war is interested in you. Recycling: Virtue signaling, often.
Obama: No scandals...because the media refused to tell us about them. Which the Brit media are doing on Tommy Robinson. The Zero didn't have scandals? Complicit media and weaponized government will hide a host of evils.
Re alternatives to Neflix
I hope Netflix takes a hit for their recent choices. Having said that, if conservatives boycotted every company with Libs/progressives running the company or serving on the board, there would be precious little goods and services for us to buy. I had not heard anything about the massive protests in Iran. There is a nationwide truckers' strike that is stopping the economy.
It is all true, it is probably making the mullah's sweat. https://www.dailywire.com/news/31291/strike-could-bring-down-mullahs-iran-mainstream-hank-berrien The longest flight in time, not miles, was made by Quantas during world war 2. In WWII the Japanese captured Singapore and cut the Quantas airline route to the UK. Quantas took some Catalina flying boats, stripped them of all unneeded equipment, added extra gas tanks and flew them weekly across the Indian Ocean from Australia to Ceylon, a thirty hour trip.
