Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

It would not surprise me at all to see Mueller's Flynn and Manafort persecutions head south, too. Do you really think the gang that indicted a company that didn't exist, as well as not realizing some shark just might take the case for the business entities (a Russian oligarch's money is just as green as theirs) suddenly dotted all the i's and crossed all the t's on the other indictments and plea deals?

Then a decade or so from now, a CDC study will show an alarming increase in STDs and related maladies among boy scouts and young adults who were boy scouts. Hand-wringing congressmen will issue calls for action, millons will be appropriated, and a brigade of new government bureaucrats will be marshaled to combat this scourge. How many times have I seen this in my paltry 87 years⸮

At a National Jamboree (like the one I staffed last year) the B.S.A. calls the shots, and despite the fact that there were both youth and adult females present no condoms were distributed. At a World Jamboree (such as the one coming up next year that I will also be on staff for) the World Organization of Scouting Movements (WOSM) calls the shots, and for years they have required condoms be available. Understand that out of the ~160 national Scouting organizations, all but the U.S. and the Muslim-majority middle eastern countries are fully co-ed and have been for years. There will be thousands of young women and adult women there, maybe even >10,000, from all over the world.

Those international organizations sure know how to get it on. Doesn't the Olympic Committee distribute about 50 condoms per day just to the athletes? (hey, they ARE Olympians)
