We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Hollywood Exposed To Facts Of Relevance

Gallup Poll (May 22, 2018):



WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The percentage of American adults identifying as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT) increased to 4.5% in 2017, up from 4.1% in 2016 and 3.5% in 2012 when Gallup began tracking the measure. The latest estimate is based on over 340,000 interviews conducted as part of Gallup's daily tracking in 2017.




Hollywood Reporter:



With GLAAD claiming that 20 percent of Americans 18 to 34 years old and 12 percent of those 35–51 identify as LGBTQ, Ellis noted, “If Hollywood wants to remain relevant with these audiences and keep them buying tickets, they must create stories are reflective of the world LGBTQ people and our friends and family know.”

Which puts them just ahead of Scandinavian Americans as a demographic. Haven't seen too many more Fargo-style
movies lately though.

Scandinavians tend to be clustered for historical reasons. LGBTQ people tend to be more dispersed in the population. It means that even in small towns, such as Gardner, Kansas or Pascagoula, Mississippi, there will be hundreds of people identifying as LGBTQ persons.

How can that possibly be, if a person is born with a particular sexual orientation and it's immutable? (You know, unless they get some surgery or something.) You can't suddenly change millions of people's sexual orientation, right?

I mean surely, you can't possibly be suggesting that treating sexual orientation as an immutable characteristic under the law for anti-discrimination purposes was factually incorrect, or perhaps even fraudulent... right?

It's not the orientation is immutable, it's just outside of conscious control, and is intrinsic to the nature of the person.

When did you decide to be heterosexual? Did you decide to fall in love with the curly-haired girl in your science class? Or did it just happen?
