We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I was listening to an NPR station (WABE) in Atlanta and heard one word over and over about Gaza. I couldn't get in touch with them to remind them that the word "protest" is not a synonym for "riot".
But yet it is sad how many 'educated' lefties I know who declare that they get their news from non-partisan NPR! They really believe it is somehow absent of bias because it is 'public radio.'
NPR killed off our classical music station. The propaganda segments began eating up more and more of the classical programming. What ended up happening is they started a new low-power station for the classical music and moved the classical programming there (I guess they didn't want to lose all their classical music donors), and then the main "public radio" station became all-propaganda, all-the-time. The only thing that frosts me is this propaganda is partly being paid for with taxpayer money. Imagine if they used taxpayer money to fund Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity?
America has always been "too big to govern". The Founders clearly recognized that was the reality. Their solution was to set up a system of government wherein the central government was given a few tasks and the rest of governance devolved down to the states.
What do they call that??? Oh, yeah, FEDERALISM! Abe Lincoln took a huge whack at that system and his "Progressive" successors kept on whittling it down, (telling blows being the direct election of senators and implementation of a national income tax) until that simpleton and traitor, FDR, pretty much finished the bulk of that effort.
I don't think identity politics is harming science, identity politics is just a useful tool for those looking to smash anything that stands in the way of their quest for power. If it's my opinion that 2 + 2 = 5 and your opinion that 2 + 2 = 4, who's to say which of our opinions is better? Oh, sure, you're going to claim that "2 + 2 = 4" isn't an opinion but a fact, but that's just your opinion that it's a fact and your opinion that facts are superior to opinions in determining what's "better". But facts and logic are tools of the patriarchy and white supremacy and cultural imperialism and I utterly reject that racist, sexist, hegemonic worldview. And once I've convinced people to believe that everything's subjective in this wise, I'll have won the debate and that's all that matters. I don't really give a crap about right or wrong or facts or opinions, I just need to win.
