Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

The Electoral College works. We haven't ever had a succession crisis in our history. Al Gore tried in 2000 but him and his plethora of Lawyers failed.
If you want proof that the people pushing for the end of the Electoral college aren't really serious about it lies in two areas: they are not amending their state constitutions to make the changes binding on future legislatures, and they are not calling for a Constitutional Convention to make the change by amendment. So far these are just promises on the order of "If I win the lottery, I'll buy you a new car."
"So instead of reforming its own laws, Canada, whose Prime Minister once excoriated President Donald Trump for Trump's strict interpretation of American immigration laws, wants the U.S. to be even stricter in extending tourist visas so that Canada doesn't have to admit it has a problem and either close or regulate its own borders."
That's about it in a nutshell, my American friends. Our "Dear Leader" and his high school student council of a government up here in Ottawa are too busy lecturing us all endlessly on diversity or saving the planet to bother with boring mundanities like running a sovereign state. Franklin Roosevelt’s Plan for Ensuring the Jews Were “Spread Thin All over the World”
Well-documented, well-known traitor and liar FDR (simpleton) was too busy winning the WWII for his friend, Uncle Joe Stalin, to be too concerned over a few Jews! Better to blame the NAZIS for a huge atrocity while covering up Stalin's Terror Famine, the massacre at Katyn Forest, where 30,000 Polish Army officers and leaders were executed by the Soviets and refusing to make Uncle Joe turn over British and American GIs captured by the Russian Armies. Hey! What's 20,000 GIs left in Uncle Joe's gulags after WWII was won,, when you're dealing with a friend? QUOTE: Mueller’s questions prove Trump shouldn’t talk If Trump doesn't sit down for a voluntary interview, he will probably be subpoenaed. Will Trump invoke the Fifth Amendment? I don't know, but he wouldn't need to. He could use Hillary's tactic and just say he didn't recall.
mudbug: He could use Hillary's tactic and just say he didn't recall.
If he doesn't recall, then that is what he should say. However, if he does recall and lies about it, then that could be a problem. Trump is a prolific twitterer, so there is an extensive record of his comments. And his testimony can be compared to the testimony of others, as well as to the public record. Trump has even tacitly waived much of his executive privilege through his tweets and public comments. Hillary claimed she couldn't recall all sorts of things. The FBI found no basis to conclude Clinton lied to the FBI.

Z deftly side stepping the issue...
Everybody in the FBI said that Flynn didn't lie. That didn't help him. The FBI couldn't recommend prosecuting Hillary for lying since they have no record of what she said.

mudbug: Everybody in the FBI said that Flynn didn't lie.
Flynn admitted he lied to federal agents, that he is "guilty of the crime charged", so that rather settles the issue. mudbug: The FBI couldn't recommend prosecuting Hillary for lying since they have no record of what she said. That is simply incorrect. While audio recording of interviews is not standard FBI policy, a transcript of the interview was taken.

QUOTE: Zzzz: If Trump doesn't sit down for a voluntary interview, he will probably be subpoenaed. As there has been no crime committed much less alleged the President probably doesn't even have to respond to Mueller at all. Back to your sandbox, kiddiez. Keep watching CNN. QUOTE: (Solomon)Wisenberg said that one of the "particularly outrageous" or "humorous" questions included in the list concerned why Trump continues to criticize Comey and fired former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, both of whom helped lead the investigation into Russian collusion. "I mean, give me a break. You need to ask that? That's rather obvious," Wisenberg said. "These questions show a couple of things. The Mueller people are outraged and livid at the president's criticisms of them, and they have a very dangerously broad view of obstruction of justice." https://www.lifezette.com/polizette/digenova-sees-fireable-offense-rosenstein-block-congress/ Small firms are all about innovation and opportunity. Large firms are about rent seeking.
The government - thru excessive regulations and its onerous tax code - has fostered large firms and hindered small ones. Translation: government fosters rent seeking behavior and hinders innovation and opportunity. Government favors this is the "cartelization" of America as it is easier to monitor and control (and extract rent from) a few large firms than many small ones. This has been happening in many industries, including medicine, where your self-employed family doc (who was beholden to you) is now an employee of a hospital (which in turn is owned or controlled by a large corporate entity headquartered far away) and is beholden to the hospital. This is the opposite of free market capitalism and was what Adam Smith (and others) warned about. Thank you. You have summed up concisely why and what is going on. This is why I go to the comments on MF first.
We have our own fuel now
The US is still a net importer of Crude Oil and Petroleum Products. Granted, net imports have gone from 12.5 Million BBL/Day in 2005 to 3.7 Million BBL/Day in 2017, and that is the lowest net import rate in over 40 years. But we are still a net importer. The article never says we are energy independent yet, and it doesn't say OPEC is going away.
It just states what we already know. Trump has encouraged energy production here and that combined with shale fracking technology has been a game changer. Royalties from drilling on federal land could give Congress an additional trillion to piss away squander over the next decade. All the news in this article is good. Homo sapiens is the dominant species on this planet. So dominant, in fact, that if we're not careful, we can easily threaten the very existence of any of the other "apex" predators. From that vantage point, we are arguably the ultimate apex predator.
Canis latrans is possibly the most adaptable mesopredator on the planet; but it is anything but an apex predator (in many places it's barely more than a scavenger). [Granted, mesopredators can sometimes take over the role of an apex predator -- if the population of apex predators has collapsed for some reason. But even in those instances, as long as the apex predator population still exists, the mesopredators know that they should fear and avoid their more lethal competitors.] Now, I do not wish to downplay Officer Liberatore's feat in any way (he did our species proud, Gaia bless him!), but if a population of apex predators behaves in such a way that the scavengers don't know to be afraid of them -- that signals a serious evolutionary defect within that population. Also, I realize it's no longer morning, but here's a pretty fascinating link:
https://www.edge.org/conversation/sabine_hossenfelder-looking-in-the-wrong-places "Americans knew a lot about Holocaust"
What is the point? Right now there are holocausts going on around the world. In the Middle East they are exterminating Christians. Where is the outrage? In South Africa they are killing white South Africans, where is the outrage? In Indonesia they are killing non-Muslims, again where is the outrage. Indeed someone probably did know something about Hitlers holocaust, but what is the point now??? It is happening over the earth right now. Don't point back 70 years just to go tsk tsk. Do something about the current situation. |
