Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Ref Starbucks
The Tablet article makes a very valid point about the bigotry that exists within the SJW world, but they seem to assume that the original Starbucks incident was racism. I have not yet read anything that demonstrates racism (unless I missed something significant), all I see is an enforcement of policy. Had the customers ordered a coffee (like I have done in similar situations) it does not appear that this would have happened at all. Yet almost everyone seems to be buying into the racism argument. Your point really concerns hypo-criticism, doesn't it? The Left seem to thrive on the concept, partly because the rest of us view hypocritical behavior as fundamentally unfair, and against the tenets of our society. It seems hard to understand the mindset of someone who could appear to be naturally blind to such a tenuous and indefensible condition.
But that's the point. Hypo-criticism is not an unrecognized glitch in Leftist doctrine, it's a feature. It allows one to indulge in outrageous conduct against others with a sincerely-felt righteousness. It's the same mindset that allows one to view an opposing intellect as being degraded and unequal because it's somehow less than human - or sub-human, using the example of the Nazis. Of course since basic fairness is not accepted as a tenet of the doctrine, there's only one strategy that's effective in countering this mindset - and that is annihilation of the enemy, again, as with the Nazis with the Jews. We just don't want to accept that the fight over our society is the same one that we had in Europe and the Pacific, 80 years ago. Or, put another way, we are in the multi-century war that is interspersed with periods of relative peace. If the Western Left manages to produce another strong-willed, charismatic leader with ruthless principles, we are in for a very hard time indeed. Joy Reid and the forgotten value of changing your mind. She's also forgotten, or is to dumb to realize that lying as a coverup never works for very long.
Immigrants: Thanks for making it clear: It’s an invasion. They care nothing of America and our values. Our language. Our laws. They demand things that they do not deserve. They’re in Mexico. Let Mexico deal with them. Except they don’t want to stay in Mexico, because Mexico doesn’t have a big handout system.
Pope: Ban All Weapons. Us: We got sticks, stones, baseballs, sorftballs, crutches, ball bearings, baseball bats, softball bats, cricket bats, grasshopper bats (sorry; got carried away)...and the list goes on and on and on. No can do.
The NYT is in a panic? Music to mine ears!! Can Germany protect its Jews? My Magic 8-Ball says "Signs point to NO." The real question is, will Germany do what needs to be do to protect them. My guess is that Merkel won't. RE: Pope says to get rid of all weapons. Well, he should lead by example - disarm the Swiss Guards. And I do not mean the medieval "weapons" that the tourist photo-op guards carry.
The Pope can start with those guards that carry Glocks and submachine guns. Papa Poncho needs to do what Jesus would do - practice what he preaches! "In China and India, men outnumber women by 70 million. Both nations are belatedly trying to come to grips with the policies that created this male-heavy generation"
Correction: it is not a 'male-heavy' generation. There aren't too many men -- the number of men is just fine. The men are good, there's nothing wrong with them, nobody made 'too many' men. This generation is light on females; it's NOT heavy on men. It might make people feel uncomfortable to talk about a generation that's missing 70 million women, but facts don't really care about your feelings. To conclude: there aren't too many men. The reality of the situation is that China and India are short on women to the tune of 70 million. "There aren't too many men -- the number of men is just fine. The men are good, there's nothing wrong with them, nobody made 'too many' men."
Thanks for that comment, much appreciated and a very necessary clarification. The media does like to insinuate its progressive notions and nostrums into everything, doesn't it? Re: Dark Days for the UK.
In the West Indies one time, I met a woman from England. She was discussing health care and described herself as "private care". She said that anyone who wanted good health care went "private", since the public health care system was so poor. It sounds like the private option doesn't even exist anymore. That's very scary. "It sounds like the private option doesn't even exist anymore."
It's alive and well. One of the biggest is BUPA: https://www.bupa.com/corporate/bupa-where-you-are/united-kingdom “The things in the Mediterranean diet are thought to extend the period of health while you’re aging,”
Kinda like watching late night TV advertisements for the latest miracle supplement that makes you younger, richer and better looking and oh yeah, it prevents cancer and cures the common cold. It is all wishful thinking. "A woman’s value to society, then, is immeasurable—even if she never earns a dime. That is not the case for men."
Kinda sounds like wishful thinking. It reminds me of the pap you find in women's studies. If it were actually true she wouldn't have to write it and make up stuff to prove it. Like it or not humans are two genders and both genders are necessary. I actually like that and I'm stumped when someone, man or woman, doesn't like it. "Very dark days for UK" seems to be an ad for Cityofhope.org
Their web page says "WE'VE DEVELOPED POWERFUL CANCER TREATMENTS THAT SAVE LIVES." The way I read this is they can cure cancers while all the rest of the doctors and hospitals cannot. I have to assume that it is a scam and they are in it for the money. Where is the CDC or FDA in this; how do they get away with what is clearly false advertising. Are they just so clever that they skirt the rules just enough to get people to seek their help while not actually making false (enough) claims of miracles and cures? |
