We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Seriously mentally flawed parents. Our grandbrats are being brought up to know both who and what they are. Interesting that younger grandson now wants his elder (male) cousin to visit but not his younger (female) cousin. He's very much into the "big boys" vs the "little girls", though - if it came to a fight - the girls would hold their own and would no doubt surprise their brothers.

My cousin and her husband are members of the NY artist community. When they couldn't get their daughter into a preferred public school, they put her into a private school.

When my parents lived in DC for several years, they enrolled my brother in Sidwell Friends. Before Sidwell had an opening, he attended a public school in DC for several weeks.

To give you an idea of the academic quality of that public school, as a 9th grader he tested into 12th grade World History. My brother was an exceedingly indifferent student who in 8th grade got an F in English one marking period. Nor did my brother read a lot out of school- TV was more fun.

Sidwell Friends turned my brother from an indifferent student into a studious one.

For $40,000 tuition per year, one could hire a private tutor 24/7. But then, the cost of schooling isn't the issue; it's the freedom to deign with whom one's child attends school...the "class" of the person who can afford such tuition says much.

The entire war on statues is racist. It is the intent to tear down statues of white people. The same is true of renaming schools, buildings, streets, and other prominent things in our country. It is of course more than attacking whites, or white privilege, it is attacking America's culture. It is a loose coalition of the race pimps and open border people who want to drastically change our culture and country. And YOU are in the way.

Regarding the Saudi story: “Saddam Hussein swept into Iraq and headed toward the Saudi oilfields in 1990.” From where did Saddam invade Iraq in 1990? Does Mr. Barone truly believe Saddam intended to invade Saudi Arabia?

There's nothing in the question about wages. As the question concerns a deal, i.e. trade-offs, there may be people who consider the DACA component to be the concession to get barrier security, while others who consider barrier security to be the concession to get DACA.

The lesson of Alfie is that the State owns you. We talk about liberty and such high mindedness, just run afoul of the State and see how many rights you have. Last I heard, there are some forty thousand felonies on the books. No one person can know them all. That doesn’t even include all the tax laws that they can get you with. National ‘health’ care, is just another tool at their disposal. I can’t even fathom the evil that runs through a persons mind, that requires them to gain so much control over other people’s lives. Truly deplorable. Lord help us.

I was intrigued to learn that Anna-Frid, the burnette in Abba, was Lebensborn. It is a testament to her courage and will that she was as successful as she has been. Many Lebensborn, particularly in Norway, were treated very poorly after the war.

Which gives a good reason for moving to Norway as a child. Granted, her mother made the decision. A German soldier father wouldn't have been such a stigma in Sweden, which was neutral while selling iron ore to Germany. (Sweden's selling iron ore to the Nazi war machine helps explain why so many Swedes loved to denounce the US's war in Vietnam.)
