Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

How do Mossad's many admitted murders differ from Putin's alleged murders? Other than one is real and the other fantasy.
>> "One step on the road to competence is to fix yourself. Peterson says to develop some competence. Clean your room before you try to reform the whole world. While he means that literally, he also means it metaphorically."
This guy gets it. That's the whole problem today of these virtue signallers who don't even understand what their panties are in a wad about (just that they are wound up so easily by the political mucks), it's easier to tackle the world's problems or look like you are; than any self examination of the mote in thine own eye. Anyone who denies the existence of a "deep state" has never seen the BBC series "Yes, Minister" or it's follow-on "Yes, Prime Minister".
"It's the political branch's job to make decisions and set policy. It's our job to provide them with alternatives. And to make sure they are only provided with the correct alternatives" - sir Humphry Appleby Israel understands the problem and the risks that Islam presents to them and the world. They understand that direct and preemptive action is necessary and saves lives. The rest of the world (leaders) do not understand this...yet.
Re: clean up your room. Peterson’s point cd be read as a variant on “ first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye” Perhaps some fatherless young men and many of the older generation fed up with stupid PC ideology love a benevolent transference object laying down the law: “young man, clean up your room right now!”. For good reasons, military and police recruits and boarding school students are forced to keep immaculate rooms—it promotes mental discipline and self respect. Order amidst our cultural chaos.
However, it also ignores what most believers know all too well: that we are still miserable and wicked sinners. Redeemed, but unable to Keep from sinning and failing until we rest w God. Also, Peterson’s nagging means different things to different audiences. For example, many women would hear it as a badgering to go back to keeping house for everyone on top of all our other responsibilities at work and for our kids and elderly relatives. Further, for those of us who had actual loving, but fallible, fathers who were overly strict? “Clean up” reminds me of my own Naval officer dad grimly warning three, five and six year olds “white glove inspection“(eliciting terror in the household) . Furthermore, sometimes, for adults, there are things to do that supersede cleaning up your room. See The Gospel of Luke “57And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest. 58And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head. 59And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. 60Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God. 61And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house. 62And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” So, I had very clean rooms when an at home mommy, but when there were more important things in the outside world, not so much. One might use this as a metaphor for work and tending one’s personal stuff: most people with traditional values would agree that duties to God, country, family should always supersede those to household and self. No one ever died sighing “I wish I had had more “me” time or spent more time at the gym or tidied up my room better!” QUOTE: FB: What’s genius for Obama is scandal when it comes to Trump The difference is that the Obama campaign divulged the how and why of their data-collection, while the data used by Cambridge Analytics was collected fraudulently. And they announced they were going to do it before it was done to allow people to opt-out? Otherwise they were just ex post facto justifying it.
"The difference is that the Obama campaign divulged the how and why of their data-collection"
After the fact. And when FB found out? They allowed it to continue because it was the 'right' people doing it. Don't try to split hairs on this one. The preferred candidate did it and it was OK. The 'wrong' candidate did it and it's a shitstorm. There is no other way to look at it. another guy named Dan: And they announced they were going to do it before it was done to allow people to opt-out?
No. It was opt-in. About 75% percent of visitors opted to share. jimg: The preferred candidate did it and it was OK. The 'wrong' candidate did it and it's a shitstorm. The data collection for Cambridge Analytica was fraudulent. They lied about the purposes of the data collection, and they lied that they were not going to keep individual information. QUOTE: Flashback: Obama Congratulated Putin on His 2012 Election While the White House readout indicated that President Obama had called to congratulate Putin, he actually congratulated QUOTE: “the Russian people on the completion of the presidential elections,” but not Mr. Putin himself… and praised the new political activism by Russian citizens “exercising their constitutional right to free assembly” — a clear reference to the opposition groups that have staged antigovernment protests in Moscow. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/03/07/world/europe/ties-with-us-remain-strained-after-russian-election.html An archive of the the Obama White House website shows Obama did in fact talk with Putin on March 9, 2012, following his election win.
"President Obama called Russian President-elect and Prime Minister Putin to congratulate him on his recent victory in the Russian Presidential election," according to the official summary, or "readout" of the call. Hank_M,
Z: While the White House readout indicated that President Obama had called to congratulate Putin ... Exactly. Obama called Putin and congratulated him on his 2012 election win.
So, let's get this straight, Obama called Putin in 2012 to congratulate him on his re-election in 2012 and Trump called Putin in 2018 to congratulate him on his re-election in 2018 and this somehow is a big deal, right?

Re: In Cold Blood - as a wise English teacher once told my class, never confuse non-fiction with true. I'd add that an author's claims that a story is true may be part of the fiction, c.f. The Da Vinci Code
Kevin Williamson: From The Devil to The Deep Blue Sea. Not reading him wherever.
Yeah, anybody who doubts Trump is voted off my island for sure.
Agreed. I stopped reading him when he wrote the NR article trashing the white working class.
I prefer the term "Administrative" State. Deep states are organised around families and tribes as much as by government function. Both are dangerous, but I consider the latter to be worse.
It is one thing for the Deep State to turn its sneakiness, deceptiveness and underhanded dirty tricks on the enemy without, but today's Deep State turns its nasty tricks on regular Americans. It's like they were all schooled to work cons, ala Gruber and Rhodes.
