We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
"If today was not an endless highway, If tonight was not a crooked trail, If tomorrow wasn't such a long time, Then lonesome would mean nothing to me at all. Yes, and only if my own true love was waitin', Yes, and if I could hear her heart a-softly poundin', Only if she was lyin' by me, Then I'd lie in my bed once again.
I can't see my reflection in the waters, I can't speak the sounds that show no pain, I can't hear the echo of my footsteps, Or can't remember the sound of my own name. Yes, and only if my own true love was waitin', Yes, and if I could hear her heart a-softly poundin', Only if she was lyin' by me, Then I'd lie in my bed once again.
There's beauty in the silver, singin' river, There's beauty in the sunrise in the sky, But none of these and nothing else can touch the beauty That I remember in my true love's eyes. Yes, and only if my own true love was waitin', Yes, and if I could hear her heart a-softly poundin', Only if she was lyin' by me, Then I'd lie in my bed once again."
One of my favorite songs. I've been meaning to write a post about Bob. I got into an argument with some co-workers after George Harrison died. I asked if there was any living American musician who approached Beatle status. ("living being the caveat to avoid corollary Elvis arguments -- and I admit that Elvis did much to change mainstream music). After listening to twits talk about how Madonna, Aerosmith and/or any other old band is at that level, I felt like slapping them in the face. Bob Dylan has done more for music than any other American artist. Plus, he's the real deal -- unlike so many talentless dancing chickens that pay their way onto the airwaves today. He's one of the few guys who is so good and so inspiring that you can't just pick a favorite song. First you have to divide them into genres: acoustic, protest, narrative, electric, blues, rock, etc..., and then you can pick a favorite from each category.
