Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Under American law, a woman (even a teenager) has right to terminate a pregnancy for any reason whatever, even no reason. So, there is no legal basis for denying her the right to abort a fetus with Downs Syndrome. A few states, like Ohio, has passed legislation preventing the abortion of Downs Syndrome fetuses, but these will be struck down by the first federal judge who gets a lawsuit.

In passing, there has been some discussion about the ethics of DNA modifications (via CRISPR et al), but the reality is that the same law that protects a woman's right to an abortion will protect her right to alter her embryos in anyway she sees fit.

It's like they're conditioned to spending the money coming in and 20% more - and now they're looking at a possible cut and crying "Oh, where shall we get the money to keep spending!"
