We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Your Right to Free Speech, Like My Right to Self-Defense, Isn’t Open to Debate - Rallying to call for restrictive laws is a whole lot easier than getting people to submit to them.
Under American law, a woman (even a teenager) has right to terminate a pregnancy for any reason whatever, even no reason. So, there is no legal basis for denying her the right to abort a fetus with Downs Syndrome. A few states, like Ohio, has passed legislation preventing the abortion of Downs Syndrome fetuses, but these will be struck down by the first federal judge who gets a lawsuit.
In passing, there has been some discussion about the ethics of DNA modifications (via CRISPR et al), but the reality is that the same law that protects a woman's right to an abortion will protect her right to alter her embryos in anyway she sees fit.
And the Repubs are worrying they may be in trouble this fall.
Well, it doesn't help when you are supporting this:
a tax-per-mile plan being pushed by Republican Rep. Sam Graves of Missouri might have drivers re-thinking those weekend joyrides instead of feeling all the pain at the pump.
Yeah, not so much... https://www.investors.com/politics/editorials/revenues-climb-5-2-in-first-month-of-gop-tax-cuts/
It's like they're conditioned to spending the money coming in and 20% more - and now they're looking at a possible cut and crying "Oh, where shall we get the money to keep spending!"
