Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Victor D Hanson; A Thorough Explanation of California's Failing Utopian Vision

California is overwhelmingly first in the US by GDP. On its own, it's the 6th largest economy in the world. Why they want federal money is beyond me.

I really respect VDH. California is a beautiful state and I want to believe it can be restored to common sense.

I was one of the 150,000 major taxpayers than moved out. I moved to Texas. My business got an instant 40% "raise" (along with three employees I brought along), which allowed me to hire 2 native Texans. For now, net migration from California is actually a positive for Texas, as most people are conservatives like myself who are getting away from the madness. Of course, later on the leeches will start arriving. Texas' major problem for now is the influx of illegals.
