Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Those teen girls are in their 70s now

Bragging about how they met Mick Jagger. Brian was the foundation. He could play anything. Best rock/pop band ever. Beatles quit rock quickly in their brilliant and short-lived career. OK, McCartney went back to rock on his own and did very well.

Yup, we are getting older.

Now and then, the Stones also strayed away from rock.Bob Wills Is Still The King. Yes, indeed, Bob Wills is still the king- of western swing.

I am partial to the Townes Van Zandt cover of Dead Flowers, a song which which the Stones wrote.

Hey, I just listened to that Stones cover on Bob Wills! Still showing up on my youtube list.

Stumbled across western swing a few years ago, and I like it in small doses. Very good musicians.

Anyway, I'll always favor the Who, even over the Stones.

My daughter does hair and she tells me stories of some of these old women when they come in to her shop and she use to be shocked by some of the things they say.

I told her that these old women probably had done more drugs and had more sex then her and her friends combined.

Now she talks to them about things and they love her.

I acknowledge Brian's genius and contributions, but IMO their best came after he had stopped contributing, e.g., post Beggar'd Banquet.

The Rolling Stones, especially with Bill Wyman and Brian Jones are/were a blues band that played rock. The Beatles, especially Paul McCartney, had wider influences of Jazz, pop, rock-a-billy, and dance music. The fact that the Stones could venture into R&B and even country just exposes how those genres are rooted in the Blues tradition.
