Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Nice article about the Glock, but Mizokami's research wasn't thorough enough to turn up the Steyr GB, the also-ran in the Austrian handgun acquisition. Steyr makes some sweet 9mm's these days; the L9-A1 is a joy to shoot (this guy https://www.personaldefenseworld.com/2014/10/gun-review-steyr-l9-a1-9mm/ agrees with me).
Why Glock Dominates the Handgun Market (And Better than Sig Sauer and Beretta)
Glock got their position in the market the old-fashioned way: they BOUGHT IT! With very low prices to law enforcement and very decent reliability; can't read a "Comments" section of any article about Glock without some Glock owner claiming his worked so well after dropping it in the mud! Glocks are almost idiot-proof! The perfect gun for "Everyman." Prefer a Sig 226: It makes its owner a better shooter! Rock steady when aimed, shot after shot. And one takes care NOT to drop a Sig in the mud. "The Next Step Toward Universal Health Care"
Imagine what uncontrolled immigration and single payer health care will do to our country. Higher taxes, much higher. Under funded legitimate government programs like national defense. Why would any American political party push so hard for both of these things??? IMHO no "America" political party would. The Democrats were hijacked years ago by Marxist socialist and by communist. I think at this point the Democrat party are anti-constitution and anti-American. **There are no plausible options that offer more than the faintest prospect of preventing the next massacre.**
Yes there is! The family is the basic unit of civilization. Stop all the craptalk: men and women are the same, its ok to be homosexual, there is no shame in being single and pregnant, lets pay single pregnant women more benefits than married women. Looks plausible to me.
I'd also add removing the nihilistic and history is all white oppression materials from the classrooms. For a short while, the Israelis had a problem with mass shootings at schools.
So they posted armed guards at every school, and ensured that several teachers and administrators were also armed (and trained). Since they made that change there have been two attempted mass shootings at schools, and in both cases the terrorist perps were shot dead by the armed employees at the schools. peacelovewoodstock: So they posted armed guards at every school, and ensured that several teachers and administrators were also armed (and trained).
Teachers are generally not armed, but security is typically tight with guards posted at most schools. On the other hand, Israel has comprehensive gun control, including strict licensing. They also have universal health care including mental health services. I never once read that Nicolas Cruz was denied mental health treatment for financial reasons. I read lots of times that many different organizations (the school, Broward County, and on up to the FBI) simply walked away from the problem, claiming they didn't have authority to intervene.

I know, right? re US Marines Quietly Lower Combat Training Requirements To Help Female Officers
Because we must have women combat officers and they can’t past the test. Diversity and inclusiveness trumps competence. Incompetence gets people killed. There is one tautological reason why gun bans don't work:
Criminals don't obey laws. As Mark Steyn once observed about the UK, the only people there who now have unrestricted use of firearms are the criminals.
JJM: As Mark Steyn once observed about the UK, the only people there who now have unrestricted use of firearms are the criminals.
Intentional homicide rate, per 100,000 inhabitants: U.K., 0.92 U.S., 4.88 The homicide rate in NW European countries went down before the laws changed. That is, the laws cannot be shown to move the dial. Ancestry seems to be the biggest factor, as the descendants of NW Europeans (and NE Asians, and Jews) in America have homicide rates similar to those countries of origin. Not a lot of Swedish-American violent crime, y'know? There is an ancestry effect, as Steven Pinker illustrates, but doesn't dare say, in The Better Angels of Our Nature. The part about 4 cities producing 25% of the gun homicides wasn't as congenial to your point, was it? Much more fun to imply that it's all of America and our gun laws that are the problem.
Also, there is variation even within the UK, of similar distribution. The rest of Europe is showing the same pattern as well. What are the odds, eh? Prepare for a veritable onslaught of bullshit from the CSR(s), Assistant. Here it comes. Woe is human humanity real people persons.

Perhaps we misunderstood JJM's comment, but JJM seemed to be saying that people would be defenseless against criminals with guns, when the homicide rate in U.K. is actually much lower than in the U.S. which has ample guns. By the way, U.K. is quite diverse, including people of Irish descent! as well as a large number of Asians and Africans.

I could be cute and just say say we have a different definition of a "large number of Asians and Africans." But the dishonesty of your statement begs for a more thorough refutation. Asians (7%, including all of Asian descent, which is a pretty diverse place) generally have low violent crime rates, though a few subgroups are high. Africans 3% is not large, and that is also a mixed group. The UK is still enormously white.
Few countries in the world are truly multi-ethnic, and American (okay, and Canada) are miles ahead of everyone else in really different groups actually getting along. Assistant Village Idiot: Asians (7%, including all of Asian descent, which is a pretty diverse place) generally have low violent crime rates, though a few subgroups are high. Africans 3% is not large, and that is also a mixed group.
You forgot those of Irish descent, who represent about 20% of U.K.'s demographics. Leaving the Irish aside, about 85% of the U.K. is white, including other European ethnicities. That means if you walk down a busy street, especially in an urban area, you are likely to cross paths with many non-Europeans.

I meant nothing more than what I said: that in the UK, only criminals have unrestricted access to firearms.

Except criminals do not have unrestricted access to firearms. Crimes committed with firearms are rare in U.K.

"How The UK Covers Up Murder Stats"
http://maggiesfarm.anotherdotcom.com/archives/31251-Wednesday-morning-links.html#serendipity_CommentForm Thanks to our Second Amendment, the United States has fewer mass shootings per capita than many other developed countries, including Norway, France, Switzerland, Finland, Belgium and the Czech Republic. (And 98 percent of our mass shootings occur in “gun-free zones.”)
But imagine if we could cut our mass shootings in half? There have been about 34 mass shootings since 2000. Forty-seven percent — 16 — were committed by first- and second-generation immigrants, i.e. people who never would have been here but for Teddy Kennedy’s 1965 immigration act. Subtract out intentional homicides in Chicago, Baltimore, and other Democrat Leftist bastions.

Doesn't have to be - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhC8LpHPbRQ "A fine firearm, but butt-ugly "
What would you consider beautiful. I sometimes reminisce over the old FN C1A1 of my Canadian youth. Rifles are like women in a sense. Hi-points! Lol.
Seriously 'beauty' when it comes to guns is in the eye of the beholder... and the shooter. I'll take cheap, ugly and fairly accurate over something really pretty that I can't afford. "I sometimes reminisce over the old FN C1A1 of my Canadian youth."
Sigh. It's significant that the rifle I trained with as a young subaltern in the Canadian Army is now on display in the Canadian War Museum (and I'm sure the WWII/Korea generation ahead of me felt the same when the Lee-Enfield showed up there in a display case). The FN was a powerful rifle too. Huddling behind a brick wall was not much protection from a good grouping of 7.62mm rounds at the right engagement range. https://tinyurl.com/yb3xpvmr
I don't consider this to be ugly, but your mileage may vary. If you want a .556 platform that is both pleasing to the eye and performs in the most punishing conditions, I recommend this Tavor: https://iwi.us/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/TSB16L.png I think my next long rifle will be chambered for the new .224 Valkrie round. Very low recoil for so much power. Re: the Formall at St. Nicholas Abbey. Were you lucky enough to be at the mill when the steam engine was running?
"Light trigger pull"? What the hell. The glock is known for its extra heavy trigger pull.
