There'd be no point in applying the brakes if you weren't sure whether you urgently needed to speed up or slow down to avoid disaster. Just as there's no need to keep dosing a patient with medicine if you're not sure whether it's making him better or worse--and the subjective confidence of a politically-motivated clique is not the deciding factor.

zachs - it is generally agreed that we re heading into a mini ice age with reduction of solar output, reduction of sea level, and reduction of proton flux which increases gamma rays to the earth, which increases cloud cover, which further reduces the suns energy reaching the earth. Which makes it colder.

algore is going to have to sell his oscar and nobel to buy fuel to make it through the coming ice age. The only way to save the earth from the new ice age is to give trillions of dollars to the UN and form a world government headed by the UN Human rights commission and the palastinians.

No, it is not generally agreed that the Earth is entering a cooling phase. What is generally agreed is that greenhouse warming is substantially higher than any expected cooling due to cyclical changes in solar irradiation. See, for instance, Feulner & Rahmstorf, On the effect of a new grand minimum of solar activity on the future climate on Earth, Geophysical Research Letters 2010; or Ganopolski et al., Critical insolation–CO2 relation for diagnosing past and future glacial inception, Nature 2016.

Which is why we consider the global temperature anomaly, as well as ocean heat content. When we do, we see that the heat content of the Earth's climate system is increasing.

2017-09-13: There is no perfect temperature; however, stability is preferred because the infrastructure of human civilization depends on such stability. For instance, large populations of humans live near sea level.

2017-11-12: Perfect for whom? That's rather a nonsense question. Human civilization evolved in a relatively stable climate over the last few thousand years. Too rapid of change will be bad human civilization, as well as to the ecosystem upon which they depend which takes time to adapt and evolve to a changing climate.

2017-11-21: We've address this before. It's a nonsense question, as there is no such thing as a perfect temperature for Earth. However, human civilization has developed during a long period of relatively stable climate, and stability is conducive to continued human prosperity.

Life of a High-End Mover
Worth the read. Reminds me of the time a mover- Mayflower IIRC- picked me up when I was hitching from Fla. to NE. He told me the condition for the ride was that I help him unload. Fair deal.

I was very impressed with his handling of the truck. At one place, he backed the truck up a hilly driveway. That takes a fine touch.
