Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

On photography


The hot new camera seems to be a Sony, Sony a7R Mark III 


As somebody who just likes to take snapshots, I feel no desire for something like that but it seems that many people do.

How would Sontag react, I wonder, to either of the following rewording of what she wrote? They seem no less true to me than what she wrote about photography. (I must confess that I own more than a dozen cameras, from point and shoots to DSLRs, including a few for underwater photography.)

To paint pictures of people is to violate them...to make objects of them

Or,

To write intimately about people is to violate them...to make objects of them

I bought Sontag's 'On Photography' sometime in the '70s. About 50 pages in I regretted spending the 12 or 13 bucks. Imo, she's a flake.
