Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

"U.S. military could lose next war"
This is a serious problem. In today's world the next big war will be won or lost with what we have when it breaks out not with what we can build over the following months and years. For reasons I can only guess Obama and the Democrats intentionally emasculated our military in a way that puts us all at risk. It will take a few years and a big commitment to rebuild our military. A weak defense is a temptation to other nations to attack us. Our leaders have let us down and we are now at risk because of it. Emasculating the military has been a theme of Democratic presidents since Jimmy Carter and presidential candidates since McGovern. It has always brought negative consequences as well as comical ones such as Kerry trying to create an image as a good choice for Commander in Chief explaining that he didn't vote for a military appropriation before he voted against it and being openly questioned how he would fight a war with the military he envisioned having voted against every major weapon system.
With the burgeoning welfare state, they preferred to spend money on butter rather than guns to the detriment of both the poor and the military and by extension the rest of us while they benefited by appearing to be "compassionate" (with other people's money). They spent money on "grease" for their donors, bribers and friends, not butter for ordinary citizens. The new way to wealth is to get control of a "Foundation" snd get taxpayer money for your friends.
How do congresscritters become multimillionaires on their modest salaries? (hint, the same general way Hillary's broker defied the odds on trades against unnamed other's losses) All federal budget expenditures need to be subjected to a test: Is this expenditure (eg, a grant to some senator's friend or thinktank or donor) so absolutely necessary that the government needs to borrow long term for it? And burden future generations who can't vote) Apparently, Federal expenditures are reqiored to purchase votes for leftists politicians.
mudbug, if the dems buy votes which require long-term increase in the federal debt, the votes they buy should be purchased long-term also. Fiscal prudence demands that purchased voters be identified, their eligibility to vote removed for, say 30 years (like a 30-year bond), and their purchased vote given directly to the DNC. (this solves the dems Bernie-type eruption risk, also)

All receivers of transfer payments (welfare, housing subsidies, SNAP, etc.)?... Reasonable but unfortunately that will NEVER happen.

This is the first reason I will not vote for a Democrat. There are OH so many more.
ISIS Destroyed Palmyra: Who woulda thunk it. Well, anyone who knew about ISIS, the Vandals of the middle east.
Harvard Sororities: Calling out Harvard for being against women determining what they want. Muslims at Loyola: I'm just amazed the Loyola is celebrating Christmas. So many "Catholic" universities are Catholic in name only, and only in whispers. I eagerly await the zachbot's defense of hillary and the fbi. Their troll assignment seems to mainly be to protect hillary, global warming, and obama. This is getting more difficult for the zachbots - they must sense that their defenses are becoming obviously ridiculous, that they descend into parody. Maybe the zachbots will claim that fbi lawyers and agents can have private political views, but their personal integrity as aulterers would never let them bias their official work !!! (that's a good one!)
You would think cnn, nbc, abc etc would be all over the fbi G-Man paramour thing ! Were these FBI counterterrorism agents being trained by the G-Man Strzok at Comey's FBI? Were they assigned to the hillary "matter"? Perhaps Zach can explain the $6000 Rolex?
FROM INSTAPUNDIT November 9, 2017: "An F.B.I. counterterrorism supervisor is under internal investigation after a woman stole his gun following a night of heavy drinking in a North Carolina hotel, according to documents and government officials. In July, Robert Manson, a unit chief in the F.B.I.’s international terrorism section, had his Glock .40-caliber handgun, a $6,000 Rolex watch and $60 in cash stolen from his room at the Westin hotel in Charlotte, N.C., according to a police report. . . . Mr. Manson and other senior agents were in Charlotte for training, according to a law enforcement official familiar with the episode. The agents later told the police that they had been drinking with women who said they were exotic dancers, according to a second person who was briefed on the investigation but, like the first, was not authorized to discuss it publicly. “Investigators determined that the victim, Robert Manson, met a woman in the hotel bar the prior night and took her back to his hotel room,” Robert Tufano, a spokesman for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, said in a statement. At 6:30 the next morning, police officers for the department were called to the hotel. Mr. Manson was incapacitated because of alcohol, according to the police report, which he did not file himself...." Progressive Dad is kind of funny. Because he is making fun of liberals, one would expect conservatives to be more likely to fall for it. However, it was still distressing to see how many conservatives did fall for it. We're supposed to be the ones with a real sense of humor. Raise your game out there.
Re the first article : “In Communism the future is certain; only the past may not be”
Now that really is priceless. Chinese perspective - It was a good read, very condemning of W. Education. But it left me with the impression that it was an apologetics approach for Eastern Philosophy. Ājīvika perhaps, or maybe simply the new Buddhism described by some: http://newbuddhist.com/discussion/22887/fatalism .
I would also add that both he, and the evangelical Christians he encounters, would benefit from reading Ecclesiastes. Often neglected from my observations. That was a good read!
I was struck by the statement that the communist Chinese are teaching that hard work will lead to success. Just like what we use to teach here in the West! What a waste of his time Stanford was. What I found most interesting is that he based his personal philosophy on both "there is no God" and "good things happen to good people; bad things happen to bad people". My question in response is if there is no greater guiding principle of the universe, how?
He also used the term evil. How do atheists get the concept of good, or evil? Bad things happen to good people all of the time. I would bet that more bad things happen to good people than bad things to bad people. That is God’s will, our fall from grace has brought that on. Otherwise I would have to believe that Hillary Clinton is a good person. Maybe the mental torment from losing to Trump is worse than I can imagine?
"No, the World Will Not End Because the FCC Repealed Obama’s Net Neutrality"
--------------------------------- "Net Neutrality" was all about the Obama administration trying to take control of the internet and limit competition to favor those that supported the government or "progressive" beliefs (or were sufficient "contributors" to campaigns). A sort of Obamacare for the internet. The title "Net Neutrality" is as much a cynical euphemism as the "Equal Access to Books Act" would be in Farenheit 451. Net neutrality would have been admired and supported by Ma Bell. Fortunately, Ma Bell is dead...don't dig her up and promote a Frankensteinian re-emergence. Die statism, die.
As the Russia, Russia, Russia camouflage is removed from the dying democratic Marxist party storyline we can just begin to hear the NBC matt lauer Hillary rant of nooses, nooses, nooses. May the sturdy rural oaks and urban lampposts stand proudly in support of many a rope needed to thin the antifa hammer and sickle true believers.
Didn't get much coverage at the time but...
Anne Arundel County Circuit Court Judge Paul F. Harris Jr. said the complaints lodged against David E. Kendall, Cheryl Mills and Heather Samuelson were egregious and the state bar couldn’t dismiss them as frivolous. “There are allegations of destroying evidence,” Judge Harris said at a hearing Monday ... --------- https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2017/sep/11/judge-order-clinton-lawyers-face-bar-investigation/ I'm not impressed with the M17. Another plastic gun, for heaven's sake. Whom did Glock pay off? They work well enough during practice conditions, but fire several hundred rounds through one in a hurry (as I'd expect under battle conditions) and your wonderful toy is going to melt. Give me a plain old 1911 any day of the week.
