We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
They may not want to kill us, but I think there are a lot of them who hate us. In fact, thinking about the Antifa fascists, there are probably a substantial number of them who really do want to kill us.
I'm cautiously optimistic. I'm running for local office and talking to a whole lot of voters, in person and on Facebook. Lots of them get it: no one is anyone else's piggybank. The government should concentrate on competence in its core responsibilities. Charity is a big part of the local culture, but private. No one's happy about the zillions of dollars of donations that appear to have disappeared into the Chamber of Commerce. Transparency is a hot issue. The biggest dilemma is how to keep government out of our hair without having to spend half our lives participating in government or serving as a tireless public watchdog. If the deplorables stay home, the busybodies end up holding all the offices.
