Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Re: Obama's speech. At every election we are told by the people running and those closest to them that "this is the most important election of our lifetime" or some other such nonsense. It is the most important election of their lifetimes. They feel the importance so strongly and articulate it so convincingly because it is their own careers and reputations on the line, and in their narcissism, they assume that they are feeling this on behalf of the country.
We can expect this fevered rhetoric to persist from high-ranking Democrats, because their jobs and reputations are indeed on the line. How long will it last? Well, Ken Burns felt compelled to keep insisting on a late 60's narrative 50 years later. Most readers here will not live to see its end. I didn't think there was much chance for me to think less of Obama than I do, but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! He done it!
Obama was a figment of Hollywood's imagination, and he still believes all the flash, razzle-dazzle-me bequeathed by his wealthy managers. I knew the guy when he was trying to community organize (not very successfully at that, BTW) and he couldn't put two words together. Great smile; that's it. They cleaned him up and methodically waltzed him through the role to the presidency playing on the strings of the public's guilt over...whatever. We Americans are guilty of much, but not the nonsense that elected an egomaniac with few, if any credentials to guide our county.
Now he is an angry little toddler-man having temper tantrums because his hour upon the stage is heard no more. He screwed up our economy, tried to ditch the rule of law and our Republic's Constitution...and I could go on and on. Why do Bill Clinton, wifey Hillarity, the Bush family and Obama think it is their job to lecture on the decision of the voters? If you haven't seen the YouTube videos by American Intelligence Media covering the manipulations by Facebook and others to steal the multiple elections of 2000 on, do yourself a favor. A voting turnout of 102% for one party indicates the fish is rotting from the head on down. Sanders: Trump Should Resign Over Sexual Assault Allegations
Why? Bill Clinton didn't and he was far more credibly accused of incidents that were far closely to full-on assault. So, here's a big steaming cup of STFU, Bernie. Roy Moore accuser, represented by Gloria Allred, just admitted she added the printed piece under the yearbook signature. If you look at the ink comparison pic online, "Moore D.A." was added with same pen and at same angle. Therefore, accuser is a liar. Allred did not check any of this (or perhaps helped her with forgery).
Therefore, Allred (and her daughter Lisa Bloom) no longer a believable person when it comes to sexual allegations against men. This include President Trump accusers from 2016. And when you take those out of the equation, what do you get? Allred also lied about Hermann Cain in 2012. She's a big fat liar. Why would Allred need to manufacture accusers? Think about that. If Trump had actual REAL sex harassment cases against him, why would Allred feel the need to add more on the pile that were fake? Could it be that ALL were fake, and these were planted by left? My answer is: YES. I hope Moore sues the pants off of Allred and Beverly. They deserve it. This last minute attempt at admitting to forgery is supposed to make Moore back off and just enjoy his win next week. I DON'T THINK SO. Allred deserves to be disbarred and humiliated in court. Beverly needs to be outed as a liar in court and a forger. I'm sick of these women willing to slander someone for fame and a few bucks. Makes real victims look questionable. There are defense lawyers who when somebody hires them, the (half joking) assumption is that his client must be guilty. The joke goes, why else would he need to hire THE best defender?
It seems to me that Allred has a similar type of reputation. Any woman who is represented by her is either most likely lying or her accusations cannot be corroborated. Except in her case, it is not really a joke given the number of times that has turned out to be the case. Her daughter is of another sort. She tried to front for supposedly abused women while she was protecting actual abusers. But on the other hand, it may be that mother is just smarter than daughter and so hasn't been found out yet. Your advice to Bernie applies no matter the subject. He really isn't very bright, at least as far as I can tell by what he says and does. Continuing to open his pie hole and say stuff like this makes that abundantly clear.
Re: Spengler and humiliation -
GK Chesterton maintained just after WWI that the Germs had been punished financially and embarrassed militarily, but had not been cultural humiliated enough, and so would rise back up to continue the war. This is nearly the inverse of the popular opinion that we humiliated them too much, leading to the rise of Naziism, but GKC's distinction seems nearer the truth to me. They still felt that "German Christianity" was superior to the original article. They still believed the Volk were destined for greatness and to rule. uh, "Germs" would be a typo, not a childish insult. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
I like it. Much quicker to type and code, has a crisp sound to it, reminds me less of WW2, which I grew up during. (Attempt at Churchillian play on grammar.)
The problem with the Middle East peace process is that one side's talking about peaceful coexistence and the other side's talking about the peace of the grave. There's really no compromise with somebody who wants you dead.
The M.E. muslims have moved from one TrigglyPuff moment to the next TrigglyPuff moment as they have slowly descended into their ever irrational Islamism. It is perhaps easiest to see the insanity in Turkeys Erdogan as he descends into thuggery and thievery within a nation state that was once an ally.
"speed ahead with medical pseudoscience"
It saddens me when doctors and scientists go over to the dark side. I think what happens is a few hard liners who believe in these medical superstitions decide that the ongoing argument with the "believers" isn't worth the effort and just compromise rather than fight the good fight. In other words let those people who are going to use quackery anyway do what they are going to do and let the rest of us just get on with real medicine. But the problem is that the other side never gives up. There is no compromise that will satisfy them and each compromise they win simply sets them up for the next demands and eventual capitulation and new compromise. The problem with the "hippie generation" is that they are lazy. All of their solutions are put in place with a flipping of the hands and a "oh well--" attitude. Not much discipline in that age generation: not in scholastics, nor politics. They have never had the ability to look at themselves and say, " sheesh, we made a big mistake that time!" Most of them could not be taught and now cannot learn! I know there are a lot of good MF folks here that are from that generation, but I doubt that many of you are of the same mindset. It would be interesting to see which school during the 1960's produced the largest proportion of liberal failures? My guess is that it was the schools on either coast. All of that could have been fixed if our government would have refused to allow the teacher's union to link up with the AFLCIO, thus giving them the power of intimidation when confronted with resistance. In retrospect I bet it was the little PTA groups around the suburbs and middle America that got bullied into submission first. Just saying

Breaking the Silence: It's TIME...to put TIME out of its misery. It seems that the wealthier progressives buy up dead or dying newsprint additions to keep as personal blogs.
Is running harmful? Well everything and anything you do can have negative and positive results. I broke a finger playing basketball. Sprained an ankle playing baseball, Suffered a concussion playing football. I damaged my rotator cuff with chinups. I broke an arm while horseback riding (well actually after being thrown from the horse). I strained my knee once walking barefoot and slipping on wet grass. Are any of these things good reasons to not do these things? Of course not.
Running is an excellent exercise for your legs and lungs Strengthens your tendons and actually makes your knee joint more healthy. So why is it that we hear about older runners with knee injuries or arthritis etc.? Well for the same reason we hear about older people who are not runners with knee injuries or arthritis etc. These injuries are common and natural and many are genetic. Running will harm your legs and joints far less than sitting or not running will. Is it magic and will prevent all injuries for the rest of your life? Of course not. I might add that the knee is the worse designed and most delicate joint in your body (second only to your elbow). But when taken care of, like running to build strength and avoiding squats with heavy weights and avoiding linebackers tackles the knee is quite functional. I would advise to be very careful of your rotator cuff though. We all do stupid things. One is doing any type of sport on concrete or any other non-flexible surface. I have had sufficient experience with Osgood-Schlatter disease/sydrome over three generations to admit that, yes, damage is partially genetic, but, also, one must consider the impact of a joint on a surface that has no "give" and thus shudders throughout the frame.
Professional dancers insist on wooden floors particularly constructed to absorb shock as do basketball players and other athletes who need to conserve their bodies. We should not be running on concrete sidewalks or gym floors inappropriately designed for impact activities. Believe me, your children will thank you down the road a piece. (Smile) I had knee surgery two years ago. Jogging aggravates my knee badly but I found that sprinting feels fine. So now I walk 100 seconds, print 25 seconds, repeat for 10 minutes or so. Also known as High Intensity Interval Training.
Doesn't matter if the prostitute is a public accommodation or not. The Thirteenth Amendment to the Constitution abolished slavery and involuntary servitude, except as punishment for a crime. The Federal courts have all ruled that you can't force someone to work for you or penalize them is they refuse. In other words, a homosexual can't force somebody to work for them, because it is unconstitutional.
