We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Tomorrow, Bulldog and I, with Mrs. BD and Mrs. Bulldog, will be doing something like the bears. Well, not exactly, but enough rock scrambling for us. If we survive, we'll bring back iPhone pics.
Breakneck Ridge in the Hudson Highlands, rated by many sites as the best day hike in the US. I'm sure there is plenty of competition for that title, though. Breakneck is all up and down, but mostly up. Best thing about this hike is pizza and beer afterwards in the delightful, cozy, artsy riverfront village of Cold Spring, NY. Angelina's is my choice.
Join us if you are in the neighborhood. We are easy to recognize, with our MAGA hats cheery dispositions.
It WAS mobbed. They came in waves. We started at 10:15am or so. We never actually made it to the 'ridge'. We hit the first 3 'summits' but turned down the undercliff trail back to the road because the pace wasn't fast enough to be sure we'd be back to the cars before dark.
That said, the first mile and a half is difficult. Lots of scrambling. But it's doable, it's fun, and if Yorkies can do it, anyone can do it.
