Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Ref Tesla Truck
I suspect the Tesla truck is a bit of a smoke and mirrors thing (like the Mars colony), though it may eventually show as a product. There is too much vapor in this 'demonstration'. One thing is the 80,000 number which keeps getting quoted as the load capacity. That's inaccurate. That's the maximum GVW of standard trucks on US roads... the actual capacity is 80,000 minus weight of the truck and trailer. Considering that the battery in an S is about 1300 lbs to drive a much smaller vehicle a much shorter distance, it certainly would not be unlikelty that 10-20K would be taken up by battery weight alone. Charging a battery (or many if this were a truck stop) in 30 minutes (as claimed) would require an enormous amount of power, you'd probably require a small substation to support a single truck stop. That energy needs to be delivered (major grid update) as well as produced (considering how much the greenies hate nuclear power)--at best it would take decades of system growth to make this even doable. https://www.technologyreview.com/s/609152/an-electric-semi-definitely-wont-workbut-seven-in-a-row-might/
Lying by telling the truth: I see it's illustrated with a Trump picture. It's the BBC; they should know, having done it. Obama, though, flat-out lied.
Police body cameras: Sure, they will take fake footage of minorities. Suuuuuure, they will. In the real world governed by law, there is not any need to make lying nice with a new word, which is a cute lie itself. 5 U.S. Code § 3331 - Oath of office US Code covers it with simple phrase: ". . . without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion . . ."
An individual, except the President, elected or appointed to an office of honor or profit in the civil service or uniformed services, shall take the following oath: “I, AB, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.” This section does not affect other oaths required by law. (Pub. L. 89–554, Sept. 6, 1966, 80 Stat. 424.) A BBC article about lying by partially telling the truth has a picture of a politician, but it's a wax figure. Heh, irony much?
"Donald Trump’s election has made it clear that I will teach my boys . . . to be cautious, I will teach them suspicion, and I will teach them distrust."
And Trump's the problem, is he? The guy could teach his boy what happens to people who don't learn how to be adults and good citizens, or who take legal or illegal psychoactive drugs until they're insane. And sadly, one of the lessons his son is going to have to learn is how to get on in life when you have an incompetent parent. Incompetent? How? Trump appears to have done a pretty decent job with all his kids.
What evidence do you have that he's an "incompetent parent"? Other than the fact you are a total #NeverTRUMP flack? My interpretation of what Texan99 wrote is that she was commenting not on Donald Trump, but on the father who wrote the following. "Donald Trump’s election has made it clear that I will teach my boys . . . to be cautious, I will teach them suspicion, and I will teach them distrust."
After all, Texan 99 wrote,"And Trump's the problem, is he?" That rather strongly implies that Texan99 does NOT believe that Trump is the problem. You need to read more carefully before spouting off. Read more carefully. Let the liberals leap to conclusions. We have to be better.
You just can't bring up the draft on Thanksgiving and not link to Alice's Restaurant. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m57gzA2JCcM
I love that song. Saw the movie on an Army base...and the crowd went WILD in the induction center scene.
According to the feminists there is no difference between men and women so it's only fair that women register for the draft.
I don't want to see anyone registered for the draft, but I definitely support extending the exercise to both men and women if it's to happen at all.
Currently all men are required to register for the draft at age 18.
The effort to require women to register is political of course but perplexing. It would seem to only be an impediment in the event we actually have a war. I would assume that they would not draft women for combat. I would certainly hope no one is that stupid. SO why register them? If you fly on commercial airplanes--this will make you smile
