Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Back to the old 'socially constructed' BS. Don't these people understand: We are mammals. We are primates. Mammals (and certainly primates) have substantial gender specific behaviors. It's simple evolution, two complementary strategies that optimize genetic success. To anyone in the 'socially constructed' crowd, I issue the following challenge. Go out into the farmer's field and bring in the bull. I will go and round up the cows. QUOTE: $58 Trillion – 290 Apollo Programs – to ‘Combat’ Climate Change. This Is Beyond a Joke… $58 trillion over 25 years is about $2.3 trillion per year. Current energy investment is about $1.7 trillion per year, so that would represent an increase of about $0.5 trillion in an economy of about $80 trillion, most of which will be for increases in energy efficiency in buildings and equipment. Also, keep in mind that global energy needs will continue to increase, so investment will have to increase in any case. The biggest scam in history.
It is of course possible and reasonable to build more energy efficient buildings and equipment. Typically the efficiency improvement is from obvious improvements and not the complicated and expensive high tech solutions pushed by the warmies. Wind and solar power has been promising huge efficiencies and breakthroughs for decades with little actual improvements in either efficiency or costs. The ONLY reason we have so many wind farms and PV solar farms today is a huge government subsidiy. In all cases the goal of the energy companies installing these systems is to mine the subsidies not to provide efficient energy solutions. Worse, for whatever inexplicable reason, many of these companies are foreign and the direct cash subsidies go directly to other countries with little benefit to our own country and taxpayers. This scam (global warming) is a massive wealth transfer mostly from American taxpayers to the scam artists, politicians, and foreign interests. It is based on lies, it has always been a lie and now that the lie is becoming obvious to everyone the scammers have doubled down in a hope that they can lock the scam in with a binding treaty that would be difficult to unwind. They were Trumped. GoneWithTheWind: The biggest scam in history.
The point of our comment was to note that the original headline was misleading. Most of the investment in the energy sector is already going to occur. Infrastructure has to be replaced and upgraded every few decades. It makes sense to buy green when making those investments. GoneWithTheWind: Typically the efficiency improvement is from obvious improvements and not the complicated and expensive high tech solutions pushed by the warmies. To which conservation improvements are you referring? GoneWithTheWind: Wind and solar power has been promising huge efficiencies and breakthroughs for decades with little actual improvements in either efficiency or costs. Solar costs have dropped dramatically, and efficiency improved. Z: Solar costs have dropped dramatically, and efficiency improved.
Good! Then we can end subsidies for it. Global warming and more CO2 for plants to thrive is a public good for the US and the world generally.
But a global cooling from diminished sun output is starting now. The expected diminished sun output may be so substantial that "mini ice age" from a Maunder Minimum of sun output is a possible outcome. Further, diminished sun proton flux output can increase gamma rays reaching the earth, which increases cloud cover, which further reduces sunlight warming the earth. Many people, and other animal and plant species will die in ice age, which the so-called "settled science" scare-porn-mongers were trying to scam us with to get funding about 20-30 years ago. They don't care whether they scam money from an alleged "global ice age" or alleged "global warming" schemes. That is why they now trumpet "global climate change". They need a treaty before the next natural cooling cycle, starting now, becomes apparent. Let Europe freeze!!!! Exposing the global warming scam is one of the prime activators ("triggers" is such a loaded word) for the zachbot troll. The zachbot have no interest in the relatively inexpensive greening of the African, MENA and/or Australian deserts, which I have demonstrated here before. observation - the exact same posting with the phrase "true dat" in the first line was rejected as "spam" by the Maggie's spam filter.
I removed the offending first line, and the comment was accepted. jaybird: Global warming and more CO2 for plants to thrive is a public good for the US and the world generally.
There are certainly positive benefits due to CO2 and warming, however, the climate instability is deleterious overall. jaybird: But a global cooling from diminished sun output is starting now. The expected diminished sun output may be so substantial that "mini ice age" from a Maunder Minimum of sun output is a possible outcome. Very unlikely. Radiative forcing from a doubling of CO2 is about 3.7±0.4 W/m2. Radiative forcing from a Maunder Minimum event would be about -0.24 W/m2. The anthropogenic signal overwhelms the natural signal. What climate instability? Hot, cold, wet dry, seems to be an on going thing, for millions and millions of years. It seems that the climate is very stable. Such a complex system, with so many variables, yet it runs along very smooth. Oh sure, there are freak storms, but by and large, they are a minor inconvenience. People living in the known danger zones, should accept the risks, which most do, and be willing to pay the price for it. A lot don't though. They want to be subsidized.
Here in Denver, it is a rare day indeed that the weather forecast is correct. Especially when it comes to predicting precipitation. Why should I believe any of the long range forecasts? Especially since the forecasters have been caught fudging data, more than once. Is the Zachbot farm run 100% from solar and wind farms? If not, why not? I mean, this is a crises of epic proportions! You should notify your programmers immediately.

Can't make sense of your statement. You point to climate variability then follow by saying the climate is very stable. Anthropogenic warming is much faster and higher than expected from any natural climate variability. B.Hammer: Why should I believe any of the long range forecasts? Because long-term anthropogenic warming is strongly supported, even though how that warming will be distributed through the climate system is still obscure.

Of course you can't make sense of hot, cold, wet, dry. That would mean admitting hot, cold, wet, dry, is normal weather patterns. I'll ask again, what climate instability?
You didn't answer the question regarding if the Zachbot Farm is powered from 100% renewable? Can you query your programmer about that? Or would that result in a code error? Robot questioning program. Error. Error. I also love how the climate change is always long term, ever since Al Gore, and his dooms day prophecy was found to be junk science. Twelve years ago, he claimed we only have ten years left! Now we have until 2100. We must be making progress.

B.Hammer: Of course you can't make sense of hot, cold, wet, dry.
Well, it was your comment that was self-contradictory. B.Hammer: That would mean admitting hot, cold, wet, dry, is normal weather patterns. Now, you're conflating weather with climate. What will those crazy climate scientists come up with next?! Climate has, indeed, changed radically over time. The difference between the previous ice age and the current global mean temperature is about 5°C, a change which occurred over thousands of years. Without mitigation, anthropogenic climate change is expected to be about 2-4°C over a century. B.Hammer: You didn't answer the question regarding if the Zachbot Farm is powered from 100% renewable? jimg: What is the perfect temperature of the Earth?
Perfect for whom? That's rather a nonsense question. Human civilization evolved in a relatively stable climate over the last few thousand years. Too rapid of change will be bad human civilization, as well as to the ecosystem upon which they depend which takes time to adapt and evolve to a changing climate.

Things are already getting bad with the onset of the next mini Ice Age. Boston is going through its coldest temperatures ever recorded for this date:
"Boston is experiencing record-breaking cold temperatures Record lows for the second day in a row." https://www.boston.com/weather/weather/2017/11/11/boston-is-experiencing-record-breaking-cold-temperatures The outlook for humanity is grim if we don't do something about global cooling. I'm especially concerned about the spread of plague as people are forced to move to warmer climates which would be more likely to spread the epidemic. Ratio of record warm to record cold for the 48 states since 2000 is about 2:1.

Wind and solar power has been promising huge efficiencies and breakthroughs for decades with little actual improvements in either efficiency or costs.
In the case of wind, there has been a substantial reduction in cost since 1980.The Cost of Wind Energy in the U.S. QUOTE: Declining Cost of Wind Energy Over Time . Reading off the graph, cost in 1980 of ~ $550 per 2013 $/MWH fell to to ~50 in 2014.Advanced technology, improved siting techniques, and learning across all sectors as the industry scales up have all influenced the cost of wind energy over time. The Department of Energy, below, depicts the cost reduction in wind energy alongside U.S. wind energy deployment, showing a decrease in cost of more than 90% since the early 1980's. Check out Wind power in Texas. Interesting that the Permian Basin in West Texas is a leader in both fracking and in wind power. "Communism capitalizes on envy, which is why it’s largely sustained by intellectuals..."
Only "intellectuals" in terms of people who talk out their backside and fancy themselves as "educated". They are mostly of the educated strata, just not very disciplined thinkers. QUOTE: The fading of the critical sense is a serious menace to the preservation of our civilization. It makes it easy for quacks to fool the people. It is remarkable that the educated strata are more gullible than the less educated. The most enthusiastic supporters of Marxism, Nazism, and Fascism were the intellectuals, not the boors. The intellectuals were never keen enough to see the manifest contradictions of their creeds. It did not in the least impair the popularity of Fascism that Mussolini in the same speech praised the Italians as the representatives of the oldest Western civilization and as the youngest among the civilized nations. No German nationalist minded it when dark-haired Hitler, corpulent Goering, and lame Goebbels were praised as the shining representatives of the tall, slim, fair-haired, heroic Aryan master race. A country unhappy with its pledge can simply change it. Yet the U.S. couldn't even handle that level of commitment, but has said it would withdraw from the Paris Agreement. QUOTE: UN’s projection for emissions this century pointed toward a planetary warming of 3.4°C by 2100. Actually, a median expected value of of 3.2°C compared to a median of 3.6°C under current policies (which already include green technology investments), or about half a degree. Additional protocols (the Kigali amendment to Montreal, and expected reductions in black carbon) are expected to further reduce the expected warming by about another degree. That still leaves the world a bit short of the 2°C goal. Seems like the US has done its part already: http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2017/11/on-global-warming-the-us-leads-the-way.php

Notably, your chart doesn't account for total emissions or GDP. The U.S. has a much larger economy and much higher emissions than any other country on the list. As for doing its part, the U.S. has made significant strides, but still has a lot of work to do to meet its original commitments. USA Climate Action Tracker "What Happened?"
LOL The Paris agreement/scam was Trumped! Veterans Day comment: My wife and I flew back from England today, 11 November, Remembrance Day in Britain, and in Manchester Airport (a major international air hub, thronged with people), at exactly 11 a.m. local time, there was a public announcement that there would be a two-minute silence throughout the airport in observance of the event, and by God, the entire airport - staff, passengers, sales people, you name them - fell silent for two minutes. Not a sound heard from the thousands of people in the buildings for two full minutes. A most moving event.
