Why don't all men act like Weinstein and Bill Clinton?


It is the rare male who is entirely lacking in barbarian fantasies and impulses of various sorts.  Rape, murder, mayhem, etc are all part of the dark side (aka uncivilized side) of the human soul. The rich and powerful, like medieval lords, quickly discover that they can get away with lots of id-driven behavior. Thus the world of female pulchritude can become not a feast for the eyes but a literal feast. Lesser people who try it tend to get into trouble fast but in Hollywood it's just tabloid fodder.


I sometimes wonder how people would behave if they were guaranteed that they could get away with anything. Would I rob a Brinks truck, or lift a Cartier watch from the store? Have an affair with Brad Pitt? I would like to think not.


So when I read that Weinstein is headed for "rehab," it knew it was a pure PR stunt. Rehab for living the role of a dirty old predatory man?  There is no "rehab" or treatment for rotten behavior outside the judicial system. And that rarely works either. Rules are for the little people, the bourgeoisie, where there are more consequences.


I'll say that being powerful in some way, like alcohol or cocaine or wartime, can be disinhibiting for some or even many people. Most likely, for people with a little sociopathic tendencies because of the evident absence of remorse.  After all, the men in question here have daughters...

Also,  I was amused by the shock: 



 The Weinstein Co., reeling from the accusations against the co-chairman of the company, released a statement on Tuesday denying any knowledge of the accusations. "These alleged actions are antithetical to human decency. These allegations come as an utter surprise to the Board. Any suggestion that the Board had knowledge of this conduct is false," the TWC board said. 



"I am shocked, shocked..."

The problem is lack of accountability. Priests are not more likely to be pedophiles, but the Church covered up their actions, so they became lifelong perpetrators. Most police try very hard to do the right thing and treat their charges with respect, but a few bad cops are allowed to operate, and become repeat offenders. Similarly, people with power in business will tend to abuse that power, and when not held to account, will repeat their behavior over and over again.

Keep in mind that O'Reilly fell before Weinstein, and Cosby before that. As for Clinton, the accusations against him were adjudicated long ago.

Paula Jones, backed by millionaires determined to bring down the President, sued Clinton. Her case was dismissed by the court. They settled out of court rather than going through a lengthy appeals process.

The Starr investigation spent millions of dollars digging into every detail of Clinton's life, and the only thing they came up with is that he lied about a consensual affair with Monica Lewinsky.

Sure, though the court found that, even if accepting Clinton's actions as alleged, Jones couldn't show collectable damages.

Not true. In the 60's - 90's the catholic church began to knowingly recruit gay men as priests. They acquired power and directed even more gay men into the priesthood. They individually and by coordination used their position to sexually abuse vulnerable boys/men. Yes! They were more likely to be pedophiles and many were pedophiles before they were priests. This faction in the catholic religion is still there, still very powerful but closeted for now.

I wonder if a simpler and less conspiratorial explanation for 'why now' is the number of movies taking a nose dive over the last few years. Not that canning Weinstein is going to fix that problem but it probably decreased the number of people interested in covering for him, and sexual allegations seem to be the most reliable way of getting a man fired these days.

I think that the reason movies are taking a hit now a'days is the result of liberalism creep and a decision to appeal to a segment of their audience. I was at one time a fan of science fiction and I believe at one time it was entertaining. But I find today's science fiction is tedious and unbelieveable. Then there is the entire werewolf/zombie/vampire genre or the even more boring horror genre.

Imagine that Hollywood had a model that they could follow like say a James Bond style of movie that makes big bucks. Now imagine that for whatever reason the producers and backers ignore that model in favor of some other model that typically fails or at best breaks even. Why?

Then of course there is the forced and often uncomfortable requirements of the left that puts a young female in the role of the "tough guy" who beats up men, kills the bad guys, and has a female lover. Yeah! That's a movie I want to pay money to go watch. No! Really! I believe a 20 year old petite attractive blond man hating lesbian, 105 lb women can beat up five professional fighters...

That is the 'dirty little secret' gay men do not want to talk about. Most of them were indoctrinated into the gay lifestyle as young teens or pre-teens. Even George Takei made some creepy 'romance' story about his first male sexual encounter. He was young, I think 12 or 13, and at camp when a counselor sexually abused him. He claimed it was wanted and fine. I doubt it.

Hoping we delve into the child sex abuse going on in Hollywood. That is an even uglier story that is untold.

I suspect they were shocked like Capt. Louis Renault was shocked to discover that gambling was going on in Ricks Place in the movie Casablanca. Renault was being paid of course, so he wasn't going to notice anything.

Some people clearly have a predisposition to homosexuality. Homosexuality is common in the animal world, as well, so can be reasonably considered within normal natural variation.

If you have not at least superficially been confronted with a making a choice when accountability is unlikely, then you have no idea of the nature of your character.

It is the choice you make when accountability via public reputation, civil action or state "justice" that reveal who you really are.

There is the quote, often (probably erroneously) attributed to Lincoln. There is, however some truth in it.

"Nearly All Men Can Stand Adversity, But If You Want To Test a Man’s Character, Give Him Power"

Weinstein's issue was not that he was promiscuous (most men have at least that inclination) but that he enjoyed degrading and humiliating his victims. Most men, even promiscuous ones don't really want to see their partners hurting.

First of all, I love the headline, "why don't all men act like Weinstein and bill Clinton?" Not sure why, but that question made me laugh. And may I just add, those two needed power to get the girls, boy oh boy are they ugly men.

I read recently that Weinstein was a spectacularly unkind and rude man. This whole sex scandal is wrapped up in his not caring about other people, only himself. Nice the sex scandal is bringing him low.

I sure do get tired of nothing mattering but sex scandals.

Think there is so much world and deep state news that the media isn't reporting and then they throw us a sensational sex scandal bone to chew on for us to quiet down nicely.

So there was a guy with the power to make a girl a star, and whoa, 'casting couch' Then the girl stays quiet and becomes a star. Not good, of course, but, ho hum, what the heck is news about that?

Whether she would have been awarded money by a court is not what was in question. She appealed and was induced to drop it. So it was no better than partially adjudicated. Introducing "millionaires determined to bring down the president" is irrelevant, but thrown in there for emotional reasons. As to the impeachment, the fix was in because Trent Lott decided so. I still don't understand that, but we can call that "adjudicated" only in a technical sense, as that behavior by judges would have been grounds for their dismissal. Bringing up Ailes, O'Reilly, and Trump in a tu quoq actually gives away the point. Yes. Conservatives have been publicly accused throughout my lifetime, while liberals have been protected. This seems to be changing and it is fair to speculate why.

I challenge you to read Sharyl Attkisson's books and still assert you are on the fair and moral side here.

Never mind. I still remember you defending Hillary Clinton's private email server and and believing her excuses.

She had her day in court. It was a tort, not a criminal prosecution, in any case.

Clinton was thoroughly investigated. He could have been prosecuted after he left office. None of it amounted to anything other than his lying under oath about a consensual affair that had nothing to do with any of the rest of the investigation. He was found in civil contempt.

As stated, it was all adjudicated.
