Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

" Lesbian Methodist Bishop Calls Jesus a Bigot" The United Methodist Church and a number of main line protestant denominations are trying to appeal to the "diverse" masses and not following Christianity. They do not seem to understand why attendance numbers are declining. How things have become so twisted is very disheartening.
I have a woman friend who became a Methodist minister. At the time she was in school (M.A. program), she posted something really revisionist about homosexuality. I got quite upset at her for posting such junk and confronted her about it. I told her there were specific Bible verses that talk about sexual immorality, including homosexuality, as a sin and as something to avoid. Then she tried to quote some scholarship on the matter that viewed it differently.
I told her that Jesus said we should have 'faith like a child' and that even the most uneducated among us can understand the Word of God, for that is what was intended. That ALL could come to faith in Him through the Bible and its teachings. God would not bury direct instructions to the world in gobbledygook and 'interpretation' nonsense. It was at that time we parted ways, and I haven't spoken to her since. Methodists are NOT following the Bible. Even worse is that most Christian denominations aren't following the Bible.
I believe that homosexual behavior is a mental disorder. I suspect that most psychiatrists also believe that it is a mental disorder perhaps congenital perhaps at least partially the result of their experiences. I would assume that for someone born a homosexual that it can't be fixed or reversed. Like so many mental illnesses they need help but because of the atmosphere created by homosexual activists that cannot happen. My concern is that by trying to normalize this behavior is that it will lead to many problems as young people and other vulnerable classes of people are sucked into the homosexual lifestyle and suffer because of it.
Thanks to the Methodist bishop and the gun grabber in the TNR for letting the masks slip. Now if we could only get truth in advertising from everyone who tries to shape our opinion.
We are in a culture war. I wonder if the war will spill over into an armed conflict. I could make the case that the Antifa Nazis have already weaponized it. We live in interesting times. I do not understand greek, but I am told that the way Jesus addressed the Syrophoenician woman was not rude but friendly; one source implied endearing.
I assume that's the incident the UMC leader was talking about. No question but the story strikes you as odd, but given that earlier Jesus was friendly to Romans and even Samaritans, we can safely say Jesus wasn't bigoted. The Gospels aren't a moment-by-moment account of the life of Jesus. When I read that passage, I envision that the topic of conversation at breakfast that morning or dinner the previous night was "What is Faith, and what does it look like?" The woman was the subject of the lesson, but the apostles were the object - Jesus was instructing them, not her. His question seemed to be framed as Socratic irony - asking a question he already knew the answer to.
"'Uncontrolled immigration destroys the order in a country.' — Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz."

The Koran contains over a hundred verses calling for violence against unbelievers. Not all Muslims are Islamic terrorists.
But all Islamic terrorists are Muslims. An independent Catalonia might well be the beginning of the end for the EU.
I think that is far from certain. A number of smaller countries could be more dependent on the EU than a few large ones.
Re Muslim cleric Yahya Cholil Staquf: I'd vote for that guy.
Re James's comment about Jesus. Yes, we are quick to read in tones of voice that are not certain. Jesus said many alarming things, and some of them were harsh. Yet I don't think we can assume harshness in every conversation! Jesus was playful, drawing others out at times. "It's time to ban guns. Yes. All of them."
OK. Come and take them. Go ahead. Please. Humans have changed Earth's history: Animals would not respond to our questions.
