We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Red State:Expected; Schlicter:Disappointing. I do not expect Red State to ever catch on. I did not think Kurt would be so easily rattled. A lot has happened today since this twaddle was first being reported until the Junkie calls attention to it.
Since the election I've been paying close attention to Don Surber and Scott Adams, both predicted a Trump victory. And both have helped keep me sane in the age of daily outrages. Their posts concerning the DACA issue is worth a read:
Thanks for the link, been a little busy down here in Tampa, ie no power for 4 days, so the news was not a top priority. Dismaying to see the DACA cave in BUT as usual the media coverage is not the actual news. I found turning the hurricane to get better news from reading the actual National Hurricane Center reports then watching the news.
Thanks again for the links and Thanks to BD and the rest for Maggie's Farm.
Negotiations haven't really begun in earnest. It is as likely that none of the people in DACA will even be given citizenship. I wouldn't be surprised they will be able to acquire a green card and only those who serve in the military will get citizenship. That will aggravate the Dems as they need the votes but will likely not get them. There will be a wall and sanctuary cities are done. There are a lot of negotiations to complete.
My feeling is the Republicans in the Congress need a big kick in the butt; they no longer have any excuse to sit there like pimples on a hog's behind and do nothing. If this is Trump sending them the message that unless they get with the program Trump is willing to work with the Democrats, then so be it. Maybe they'll wake up.
The Republican congressional caucus needs to decide what it is going to do while Trump is in the White House. Are they going to make policy? (This is the best chance they've had for a long, long time.) Or, are they going to spend all their time virtue-signalling in reaction to the news cycle?
Given that they are politicians (and therefore creatures of the media) my bet is that they will do just exactly what they've been doing. They will continue to be driven to and fro by every latest outrage-of-the-day. They will posture over the gaffes (real and fabricated) that they are told have come out of the White House. They will double down on the messages, positions, and strategies that always paid off before.
PREDICTION: No matter how badly the party's apparatchiks want things to keep working just like they've always worked, we will begin seeing candidates (almost exclusively outsiders) who will have learned from watching Trump. When those candidates start beating establishment Republicans for congressional seats (and for state and local offices), THEN we will see a shift (Yuuuge shift!) in how Congress behaves.
(PS - This will happen to establishment Dems as well. Outsiders, copying Trump's approach will tap into the disaffected left (Bernie's people) and wreak havoc among the party's safe harbors.)
Can someone explain to me how the sniveling rats Charles Schumer and Nancy Pelosi have the power to do anything at all on their own? People are acting as though these scum somehow won an election because they met with Donald Trump. There is a way things work and this bullshit story seems desperate to ignore the obvious.
