Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

This conversation should remind all that the European commission is reacting a great deal like Lincoln and the reconstruction acted during and after the Civil War. States rights are not being tolerated by the commission and no one in the Brussels beltway could give a hoot about the "rural" folk. The commission does not intend to be held accountable by the peons and the commission considers it an affront to be questioned by the lesser classes. New World Order or bust. I'll put my money on bust.
States rights were enormously tolerated and extended a hundred years out, even as regards the rights of ex-slaves.
The federal government has been on an ever extended march to reel in not only states rights but also individual rights ever since the civil war. It has mandated a military draft and an income tax to create a huge military. It has federalized education and mandates the removal of religion from schools and micromanages all the details of what is acceptable education and who shall be acceptable teachers. It retains lands it has no business keeping as it feels landholdings allowed per the Constitution are no longer valid nor is the use of your land free from federal mandates per dozens of administrative agencies. We have an administrative government and not a government of three independent branches. And as a topper we have the federal reserve that has managed to piss away 97% of the value of our currency. You do remember silver and gold money right. And of course we also are acquiring "free" healthcare that is guaranteed to be as useless as our declining education system. And your ex slaves that you are focused on now have black privilege to rob the tax paying citizen and burn baby burn. I highly recommend the European citizens to burn down Brussels and the Brussels beltway.
Kudos, indyjones! Excellent analysis of that disasterous war between the states that began the unraveling of the U.S. Constitution. Lincoln was a tool of his railroad clientele and their banksters. To heck with rule of law. Old Abe freed slaves as an afterthought and truly hoped they'd all leave for parts off shore.
Farage is the last voice for a Europe that works to benefit its people vs. that New World Order that could care less. I remember during the Brexit coverage one woman looking out over the channel where her family had fished for generations to earn their living, now designated as Danish waters while the U.K. government had come on her land to smash her fishing boats. She wanted to know what all those people hiding behind the black-glass windowed highrises in Brussels were thinking. "Who are they? Who gave them the right to destroy my life?" Europe has committed suicide. The countries who are still resisting destruction need to pull out of the EU and build walls around their countries to protect themselves.
But thankfully without a German military. Victor Davis Hanson recently gave a speech based on his latest book on WWII at Hillsdale college. The speech is an eye opener on all the participants of that war.
Poles don't like being told what to do by Germans. Nor Russians, either. With outstanding reason.
Here I am, this is my hobby horse.
If there is a single stumbling block on the road to the future, it is the bureaucracy as we know it. ET HALL Even though I have only a superficial awareness off Edward T Hall, the pioneer who wrote “Beyond Culture”, he did pull back the curtain in OZ for me. Edward T. Hall, wrote the bureaucracy has : “no soul, no memory, and no conscience…. They are self-serving, amoral and live forever. What could be more irrational? Changing them is almost impossible, because they function according to their own rules and bow to no man, not even the President of the United States, or a Prime Minister. Custom, human frailties (foibles), and the will to power keep our bureaucracies going. … Paradoxically, most bureaucracies are staffed largely with conscientious, committed people who are trying to do the right thing, but they are powerless (or feel powerless) to change things. None of which would be so serious if it weren’t that these are the very institutions on which we depend to solve all our major problems. Some answer must be found to bureaucracy.” Dr. Hall was writing in the 70s (I think) but even so, he now appears so naive regarding the character of the political/media complex.….I don’t think his generous description is true of today’s coiffed and credentialed Mandarins. I think they are sly, sneaky, underhanded, malicious skimmers, all about style over substance, not to mention their rice bowls. Who has said it better than Boris Johnson, former Mayor of London. He nailed it when he wrote, “ To a greater or lesser extent, the story of this Euro-election has been the rise of the minor parties – some of them bizarre, some of them downright potty, but all of them united by a visceral dislike of the EU bureaucracy: its arrogance, its remoteness, its expense, its endless condescension and its manic and messianic belief in its right to legislate for all 500 million people in the EU." Megan McArdle has written on this theme recently: It's Normal for Regulators to Get Captured . “regulatory capture is not some horrid aberration; it is closer to the natural state of a regulatory body.” View on www.bloombergview... This is true. That is why the entire modern administrative state has to be re-thought, re-configured and replaced. It does not work, it never worked, it cannot work. The regulatory state is the defining feature of the Industrial Era, America 2.0 state. It needs to be shut down, wrapped up and replaced. (IOW It's an antiquated relic.) This does not mean return to the law of the jungle. It means making laws that actually align incentives with desired ends, as imperfect as that always is. Whose desired ends?
Who gets to pick the direction that incentives are going to be aligned? Whose values are going to form the basis of the social compact? These questions are way more important (and the increasing dissipation of traditional western values is a WAY bigger problem) than the inherent defectiveness of bureaucratic systems. It's fun to talk about how totally broken bureaucracies inevitably are, but then they have always been defective. Human nature, being what it is, Hammurabi's functionaries probably fit Hall's description every bit as well as the drones currently sitting in Brussels. Bad bureaucracies are aggravating, but they don't destroy civilizations. Turning our backs on the values that built our culture and our society? That'll totally do it every time. I've said it before, but I'll repeat it here: the best guarantee of peace in Europe is a nuclear-armed Poland.
