We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Jared Kushner’s Mideast Peace Push Is Going Nowhere. That’s Why Israelis Love It. -‘Past administrations jumped into the peace process pool,’ says an Israeli official, praising Team Trump’s go-slow approach. ‘There’s no water in this pool, no reason to jump in.’
Slowly unraveling but more proof it was an 'op' all the way down.
From the York piece:
"The idea that the FBI and associates of the Clinton campaign would pay Mr. Steele to investigate the Republican nominee for president in the run-up to the election raises further questions about the FBI's independence from politics, as well as the Obama administration's use of law enforcement and intelligence agencies for political ends," Grassley wrote.
Blame the Army corp of Engineers but the problem will still be there. The South and East coast of America is always will be prone to hurricanes with some of them being cat 4 and 5 killers. Am I the only person who sees a beach house and wonders out loud who in their right mind would live there? I am not happy either that our federal government uses taxpayer money to bail out these homeowners (i.e. flood insurance) and in effect encourages this stupid behavior. In my state you are not allowed to build a habitable structure in a flood plain. Most of Houston and almost all of New Orleans is a flood plain. I don't think the problem is the Army Corp of Engineers.
I'm with you on how ridiculous it is for taxpayers to underwrite the idiots who build on a flood plain or on a cliff in the mountains that can be toppled by one huge mud slide or snowstorm. It's particularly disingenuous when they return after a disaster to build bigger and grander and more expensive because they never have to pay the true cost of such indulgence.
The government should get out of the insurance business (among many others) and let the private insurance companies handle risk assessment with the land owners paying the true price. We have plenty of history to identify such areas.
Re: Mideast Peace Push.
You cannot force a alcoholic to stop drinking they must arrive at that choice by themselves. Experience and common sense tells us that the only thing that works is to stop enabling alcoholics and allow them to fail and thus reach that point where they are ready to make the decision themselves. The world, especially the U.S. is the co-dependent to the palestinians and enable them to continue to oppose peace. We are as much the problem as the palestinians are.
