We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
How long would a state senator last, if they had voiced their feeling of hope, that a democrat president would be assassinated? The hypocrisy of the media and democrats, but I repeat myself, never fails to amaze.
re: No, the Government Should Not Censor White Supremacist Views
One of the few times I agreed with the ACLU was defending a neo-Nazi group to march in Skokie, Ill. The ACLU prevailed and rather than march in a town with a large number of Holocaust survivors, they staged a rally in downtown Chicago. After that, other than very sporadic incidents with skinheads, the neo-Nazis weren't really heard from again - till now and we are to believe that they are under every rock and behind every tree.
Most people understood what free speech meant back then and valued it. Sadly, many of us seem to realize that we either have free speech or we do not and many would welcome the latter.
You might be correct about the 'optics' of arresting this WaPo editor. Political violence is particularly disgusting, though.
The recent events have got me re-reading some Solzhenitsyn:
“Violence can only be concealed by a Lie, & the Lie can only be maintained by Violence. ... Any man, who has once proclaimed Violence as his Method, is inevitably forced to take the Lie as his Principle”
I emailed my senator today and gave him a piece of my mind in cleaned up language. He'll never read it or hear about it. The Republicans aren't resting, they are busy digging their graves. If they keep up with bashing Trump I may never vote for them again, I won't vote for a Dem, but I sure won't give them my support. I now consider most of the Repubs traitors that are stabbing the president in the back.
